This thread (and affair) is a cesspool.
It wouldn't really have been an issue what so ever had he apologized after the match and explained it from his cultural point of view. But he's just simply not that kind of person. There's literally a list of shitty things he's done on the pitch and with this supposed "defense" of Suarez, headbutting a ref was just added to it.
So the truth is then, that Suarez was actually speaking terms of endearment to Evra. *hits forehead* Well silly us. Of course that's what he'd do in the heat of a disagreement. I feel so ashamed for doubting him.
Aw dang! I was almost starting to believe we'd moved on.
Yes, his Grand Ma called him "Mi Negrito" to which he replied "you black cnut" . all as words of affection. Strange place, Uruguay is.
Yes it would have, given the report found he said "I kicked you because you are black", "I don't talk to blacks" and "Okay blackie blackie blackie".
Indeed. I don't know why people even consider the possibility of him not intending to insult Evra with some cultural differences bollocks. What he said is offensive in every single culture. Victim my arse. I hope someone breaks this cnut's legs so he can't play football anymore and say it's a sign of endearment in their country.
These facts seem to have been completely lost to the ether for the sake of the 'cultural differences' argument.
yeah the argument was shifted slightly to debate whether the word was racist. when really as with the use of the word black in english it isnt. but in context it is. seems to have been forgotten by some that suarez was using the word to insult evra. repeatedly.
Is that interview a sun exclusive?
Suarez (family) speaks!
Only in the Sun!!
That should go down well...
Interesting write-up from Michel Salgado on the topic
Exclusive: Salgado on Suarez, Evra, Terry, Capello and racism - FourFourTwo's Inside Track - FourFourTwo
He's being diplomatic. He qualifies it and says he should say sorry.
good piece Jo
but I've had advice from my RAWK sources that the author is really Mick Salfordo and therefore a bit biased. He just changed the "f" for a "g" and made it sound a bit Spanish
Great spoof article in the MEN today...
Judge blasts Luis Suarez after 'handshake bust-up' with Patrice Evra prompts Manchester United fan to assault wife in Eccles | Manchester Evening News - menmedia.co.uk
...that doesn't actually appear to be a spoof...
So basically Fergie was right. Look what you caused, Suarez!!
Glen Johnson: Patrice Evra made it clear he didn't want to shake Luis Suarez's hand | Mail Online
Why do they keep doing this?
Edit: Also, he doesn't know anything about Paul McGrath? Break out the tapes Glen, who knows....... you might learn a thing or two about defending.
This is the same Glen Johnson who stole a toilet seat from B&Q right?
Is he being serious?
He's his own man, goddamit!
And my estimation of Glen Johnson goes down, and of Liverpool football club, even further.
I have a video response to that:
Spoiler (Move your mouse to the spoiler area to reveal the content)
Why on earth has this been brought up again? To be honest, I don't really mind, as it only puts Liverpool in a worse light, I just cannot fathom why he's chosen to bring something like this up.
By all accounts he was twice the defender you'll ever be.
So Evra had a masterplan to make Suarez look the guilty party?
It's the same shit over and over again from Liverpool players/fans - they're the victims in all of this. They're always the victims.
Edit: This is just silly,:
He must be completely ignorant of the fact the words were used in a derogative manner by the racist cnut, it was not like they were having a laugh and joking with each other.
just when the liverpool owners want to straighten things out, this one goes babbling about again.
plus the whole interview.
Nice timing, genius.
He may have been asked about it in the interview, but he should have just refused to comment on it. Everything was buried when the clubs made their statements, and bringing it up again really won't help matters. Fortunately from Liverpool's point of view I don't think that will be made a huge deal out of it, though it should be.
It says why in the report... continually changing statements from Suarez and Kuyt/Comolli's evidence supporting Evra's version of events rather than Suarez's is a start.
115 page report and from that he clearly didn't bother to read it or has but is choosing to stick by Suarez.
"So, can you give us your view on the Suarez affair/handshake?"
"To be honest I'd rather not talk about it/I don't really have anything to say on the matter that hasn't already been said before/I'm not going to risk getting myself into trouble."
It's honestly like a spoof article. It really doesn't sound genuine. Just read it again, but imagine that it is a made up article.
One of these days Liverpool will stop spouting shit about this whole affair.
Yep, that's exactly what he's said and on RAWK a few people are rightly saying he shouldn't have said that but a few seem very pleased and don't care about the potential ramifications for Liverpool as Johnson has 'exposed' Evra as a liar - somehow.
And I agree about the article.
fecking hell, do they really want to rip the scab off again?
I would ask Glen Johnson something, if Suarez didn't shake Evra's hand because he didn't stick his hand out far enough, why did he make an attempt to shake Rio Ferdinand's hand when he didn't stick his hand out at all?
Anyway, Johnson is really being an idiot here. After Suarez apologizes for not shaking Evra's hand and the whole thing seems to be quieting down, he comes out with this. Also, his comments on Paul McGrath are stupid and disrespectful.
Make that 10 times.
McGrath was one of the finest defenders you could care to see.
I wonder how good he woulda been sober.
Johnson ain't fit to clean his boots.
He's been advised very badly on the timing and nature of these comments. Was this the 'extra trick up his sleeve' Kenny alluded to? The club is racist to it's core
Couldn't put it better than that..
Jeez, Johnson is proper sounding like a RAWK member there.
So let me get this straight - Suarez didn't shake Evra's hand because quite clearly Evra didn't extend his hand to Suarez........but Suarez tried in vain to shake Rio's hand, even though Rio was blatantly refusing.
It's as clear as day Suarez had no intention of shaking Evra's hand. If in fact Evra didn't extend his hand out, surely Suarez would have went to great lengths to try and take Evra's hand to show the world he was trying.
Why can't these feckers just let this go??
Does Suarez call him negrito?
Lets all just take our Rose tinted glasses off for a second...
It can be seen on this slow mo HD clip that between 0:22 and 0:28 Evra retracting his hand to almost by his side for the Suarez handshake after holding it out for the other players. He only lifted it up after Suarez had passed him.
Suarez held his hand out much more positively for a shake than Evra.
Looking at this i believe Suarez would more than likely of shaken Evras hand if he had kept it held out.
Look at the still before playing it, that is not offering a handshake, Evra was the one who pulled his hand back and then made the big gesture afterwards.
Here we go again.
