Sort of the opposite of the other thread. Who did you hate as a player but liked post-retirement.

Sad to say it, but Jamie Carragher comes off as a really cool lad. Saw him play with the Class of 92 against Salford a few months back. Seeing him get shit off Liverpool fans for this and for wearing an Everton training kit last year made me admire his lack of giving a feck about what people thought of him. Good pundit as well.

Frank Lampard isnt as big of a cock as I labelled him either. Seems like a well read pro.

Lampard comes across really well on BT. A genuinely decent bloke, it seems.

Probably Gary Neville too. Came across as a pretty basic arsehole as a player, but has turned out to be quite articulate on Sky Sports.

Lampard has an IQ around 150 according to the Chelsea club physician, who conducted the test though MENSA.

Drogba the obvious one (not for Chelsea fans of course). Basically spent his entire career being hated by every opposition fan and now he's generally adored and respected by most given his off the pitch contributions. (In before none of the money goes to charity)

I never understood the hate Lampard gets, I disliked him because he was a fantastic player for our rivals but never thought he was a twat like Terry.
Have to say, I find myself liking Carra at times and Didier Drogba seems like a cool dude. Henry is also likeable.

Same, I've always thought Lampard came across as a decent bloke, both on and off the pitch. I still remember this with Ronaldo already on a yellow:

    Fair play to him really.

Obvious answer to the OP is Carragher, same as most I guess.

I think Hargreaves is ok to be honest. He got flak for being bitter against United at the beginning of his TV career, and maybe there was truth in that after he felt he'd been badly treated while injured, but he has knowledge about playing fairly recently at the top level and brings it to bear in an accessible, non-annoying way in my opinion.

I used to like Teddy Sheringham as a player. Then I met the bellend and now think he's a bellend.

I'm surprised how many people here like Carragher, I think he's an irritating (could be largely due to the accent to be fair), insufferable prick, probably even more than when he was playing.

I like Henry and sometimes Shearer. Obviously Lineker too, though I don't really remember him playing so can't say I hated him.

Lampard for sure - always knew he was a decent guy, but much easier to like him when he's not affiliated to either Chelsea or City. Still a cnut but Joey Barton has the odd moments of clarity as a pundit as well.

I wouldn't have believed it 10 years ago, but Lampard, Carragher, & Henry would probably be my preferred pundits at just about any game. Arguably Roy Keane is actually good for a bit of craic, but if I hadn't been an Irish and a United fan, I'm not so sure I'd have liked him very much as a player.

Edit: Robbie Savage is still daft, but I don't find him unlikable on 5Live... Bellend of a player.

Meh, he's alright but nothing special. It frightens me how he often looks directly into the camera, right into my very soul.

    Lampard, Drogba, Carragher, Henry.

And I didn’t see the other thread but players that went the other way include Hargreaves, Roy Keane and on occasion G. Nev (when he’s in his silent domination mood).

Carragher - never expected that from the player who always seemed like a prick and took a chunk out of Nani's leg, but I like him now. Seems like a sound guy, and he makes a lot of sense despite his accent.

Never saw any reason to dislike Lampard when he played, like him now.

Gary Neville is one of the pundits I avoid actually.

I liked Keane the player, but think he's a cnut in the media.
Also liked Hargreaves as a player. Find him daft & boring when I've seen him talk about football.

Never disliked Carragher, Henry or Lampard, but started liking them as pundits to some extent.
I like the banter between Carragher & Neville as they both can laugh at themselves and just seem to joke as friends. Henry & Lampard I like more for their actual punditry/views. Seems like decent guys.

Shearer has actually gotten worse for me. I didn't like him as a player but respected how good he was when he wasn't elbowing people in the face. As a pundit he is infuriatingly lazy and never has anything worthwhile to say. You will watch a game live, then on MOTD Shearer will give an analysis of it, that clearly demonstrates that he didn't actually watch the game. Sometimes he writes articles arguing a point about things that have never happened or that no one has even said. He did it this week with our game and Mourinho. It annoys me that he is making money of the licence fee payer so he can pretend to watch football games. Anyone can pretend to watch football.

I don't mind Carragher at all. Not sure I'd say I like him as a person but he's good as a pundit. Less annoying than Neville and doesn't get caught up on trying to prove silly points in the way Neville and others do.

Rooney the person always comes across less dislikeable than I envisage he would...I know he's not retired yet, but, well...he basically is.

Scholes was better when he wasn't retired and you didn't know what he thought about anything.

Vieira I absolutely hated as a player. Seems an alrightish kind of bloke. Certainly less of a twat than Roy Keane, who I actually dfon't mind either because he just doesn't give a feck.
