Will never understand why we're on Friday night but not on TV.

VAR will be trialled in this round. It will also be trialled during the League Cup semi finals. From the FA website

Didn't know about the VAR. I bet it's a roaring success and everyone will act dumbfounded as to why they didn't do it years ago.

Merseryside Derby, but yeah can't understand why we can't play on Sunday.

Expect some rotation, with Chelsea coming up again in 3 days. Welbeck will probably play.

You'd think United v Derby is a game people might want to watch. Should have played on saturday or sunday instead.

Klopp has said he'll play the strongest team and for sure Mane is a consideration otherwise we'd have saved the money for a private jet and let them return on Ryanair or whatever Ghana's equivalent is.

    --------------Karius----------------
    TAA---Lovren--Klavan-Robertson
    ---------------Can------------------
    ---------Milner---Lallana---------
    Mane------Firmino-----Oxlade

Deffo VVD on the bench and getting 20 mins game time when we are 3 up, I want him in the team to play City ! Hopefully we see Ings on for 30 mins too.

From the quote above it seems only at Brighton. Pity, the derby would have been the perfect outing for it (though it should have been introduced 2 years ago and now be standard in every PL/FAC/CL game).

Yeah that’s what I suspected, classic FA bad decision when it would be far more useful in a fiery encounter like tonight.

I think they were, ahem, expecting Utd to be in the League Cup semi-final next week so scheduling City v Utd for Friday and Saturday made sense. I don't know why it has not subsequently been moved to Sunday, possibly selling tv rights abroad.

Apart from Utd fans I think most viewers are heartily bored of watching Utd in one-sided and dull FA cup ties.

How can you only use it in one game? That essentially means one game is played with a different set of rules than every other game. What a strange decision. That be like having a World Cup with penalty shoot-outs for all teams except England cause they never win and Germany cause they always win.

Possibly true, though the viewing figures would probably be the best indicator to follow on that one. Also with our games then there's always the chance of a shocking upset, which obviously is definitely not the case with the Merseyside derby.

That sounds plausible. I do however imagine of all the cup games this weekend Utd against Derby is one of the more attractive ones.

Possibly, but I think there was a bit of a backlash here when the BBC chose Utd at home to, I think, Wigan and Reading. They were poor choices and the games were a non-event. Eventually, Utd were not going to be chosen and this weekend seems to be that round of games. Had Derby been at home I think it would definitely have been picked. Without your red-tinted specs on would 1st in the PL at home to 7th in a local derby not be an even more attractive choice?

I think it's bonkers trialing something in an elite competition, the whole comp isn't now being played on a level playing field for me.

I think the BBC, as a public service broadcaster, has an obligation to provide content for as many people as possible, not just Man Utd fans.

Its about time Everton turned up in a game against Liverpool. The Merseyside derby has become a bit of a joke. Hopefully tonight but as you say, I can't see it.

Am I right in thinking that our semi v Bristol City won't have VAR but the other semi will?

Pearce (LFC ITK) has reported that Mane trained this morning and will be fit to play this evening, as planned.

There's only one ITK and that's the manager. And he can have a late change of mind for fitness or tactical reasons anyway.

There are a number of real ITKs, journos briefed by the club, if you didn't know that before you do now (Reddy and Pearce for example). Nobody's talking about last minute changes, that's stupid, nobody knows what may happen in warm up etc.

More on those rumours that Klopper 76 referred to :

    Sam Carroll (Echo) :

Virgil van Dijk will start tonight’s game, according to a report in the Daily Mail. The rumours had been going around all day and it now appears to have been firmed up.
Both Neil and I were saying in yesterday’s pod that we’d throw him in, so fairly happy to see him given the nod. If true, of course.

    ------------

Bit surprised TBH. However who's going to be his partner is now the big question ? I'd suggest Lovren for the Everton game since VVD will almost certainly be LCB. And Matip thereafter.

It´s either this game, throw him to the wolves against City or wait another week. Makes a lot of sense to play him tonight.

Would have gone with Gini instead of Milner, he kills our fluidity in there. Shame about the missing players but that should be a side capable of winning and I think Everton might venture out of their half this game
