More competitions = more money for FIFA....

.... which I'm sure they'll fully invest in grass roots football and football-related charitable organisations.

They see all the money the preseason tours are generating and they want a piece of the pie.

Hopefully, if any English side has to play, they will send their youth team.

I don't really have a big issue with the concept of it however for 12 clubs (the non European ones) it'll basically monopolise their leagues forever. Any African side that gets 60 million will simply win their league forever, as well as most asian sides (Barring China, Saudi/Qatar due to other teams being loaded) and it would likely be Korean or Japanese sides that qualify. Would also be ridiculous if teams are invited for past European merit (winning CL's in 80s should be of no relevance at all)

It'll also be incredibly dominated by European sides, I'd be surprised if any didn't win their group. South American sides aren't bad but still no where near the European elite.

Surely with our money making ability we should be automatically qualified every year and getting byes to the latter stages too?

Thats why the Club world cup in any format should only ever have one European side. In this proposed format no team from outside Europe will have much of a chance of winning it for the foreseeable future. Which makes the whole 'World' bit seem kind of hollow.

    Good. EUFA hopefully opposing it.

I think I've worked out why FIFA want it... "The new Club World Cup and global Nations League would be projected to generate $25bn (£17.9bn) in revenue, with the investment coming from a consortium led by Japan's SoftBank".

FIFA made $6.1Bn from the WC. As a non profit organisation, they've got to spend a lot then

    Kerching?

What a nonsense idea. Even if European teams were happy with it how does it even work, what makes the 8 teams? The CL quarter finalists? Semi's from CL and Europa? Top 8 ranked? The schedules should be getting shortened if anything not more added to it. We and most other top clubs play plenty enough as it is.

To start in 2021? It says it's every 4 years.

8 teams from Europe. Presumably 4 CL winners and 4 EL winners. Plus the x best ranked CL finalists (not already qualified) to make it up to 8?

    So:

2021 CL winners, 2021 EL winners
2020 CL winners, 2020 EL winners
2019 CL winners, 2019 EL winners
2018 CL winners (Real Madrid), 2018 EL winners (Atletico Madrid)

I can't see the logic in having 24 teams. Make it 32 teams and take 16 teams from Europe, and 8 from South America.

I wouldn't be surprised if this tournament became a big success. Give it 10 years.

    FIFA are crap though

That's stupid. It is good the way it is. World Champions each year and not every 4 years when the teams that were European champions can be so different from the ones that were 4 years ago.

That is true. At most it should be every 2 years.

Imagine us qualifying through getting to the final in 2011 with this team

    VDS
    Rafael-Ferdinad-Vidic-Evra
    Valencia - Carrick - Giggs - Park
    Rooney
    Hernandez

But the competition not being until 3 years later, so this being our team

    VDS
    Rafael-Ferdinad-Vidic-Evra
    Valencia - Carrick - Mata - Young
    Rooney - RVP

Hmm not as different as I thought really

24 teams every 4 years is absolutely terrible.

Should have been 8 teams on 2 groups every 2 years.

But Fifa is all about making money now.

Oh well, only good thing from this shite is United and Al-Ahly will have a better chance to appear in this competition.

Any intercontinental clubs competition is pointless now. The best european clubs are stronger than the best NTs, let alone clubs outside europe.

That was just one suggestion using four consecutive CL and EL winners. Can use something more *recent* for a selection. But plenty can change already in between two seasons anyway, so, don't think it matters.

    We'll go with rcoob's thing.

All the UEFA sides should boycott this money grab shit show and just organize their own tournament. Bring back the Intercontinental Cup and invite teams from every continent this time. feck FIFA.

This idea is stupid for many reasons but that is one of the main ones.

Not in favour & I don’t like the current CWC either. Should have just kept the Intercontinental Cup. One off between Europe V South America.

Enough shite clogging up schedules as it is.

Yeah they say that now but i don't expect it to last, after a few years if the money is there top European clubs will take part. Thats why i would like to see them organize an alternative tournament with the same format of the current Club World Cup as a big feck you to FIFA.

(Summer here refers to June-July months)

Summer 2018 - World Cup (Russia)
Summer 2019 - Copa America (Brazil) / African Cup of Nations (Egypt)
Summer 2020 - Euros (All Europe) / Copa America (Argentina/Colombia)
Summer 2021 - FIFA Club World Cup (replacing the Confederation Cup) / African Cup of Nations
    Summer 2022 - Nothing
Winter 2022 - World Cup (Qatar)
Summer 2023 - African Cup of Nations
    Summer 2024 - Euros / Copa America

A good way to ruin a tournament is to feck with it. Keep messing with it and fans will stop watching.

Don't think so no, i'm suggesting Uefa/Conmebol should bring back the Intercontinental Cup invite Asian/Africans teams etc and use an identical format to the current Club World Cup and hold it in December as usual so basically just carry on cutting FIFA out in the process.

FIFA's summer tournament won't get far without the top clubs.

They clearly don't think football has reached saturation point yet. There's more gold to be dug up.
