Inspired by the "Can Lukaku break records" thread I came up with this - let's try to guess which of these two will reach 100 Premier League goals scored.

Lukaku is on 85, Kane on 78. Way closer for Lukaku but he's new to the club and last seasons Spurs scored much more goals than us.

I'd say they'll both break 100 this season and I think it will be Lukaku to do that first, but wouldn't really rule Kane out.

//additional question - who would reach 100 first if it wasn't for Rom's advantage - so the first one to score 22 :D

    Lukaku obviously!

Who will score 22 first? Too close to call.

Kane: 78 Premier League goals in 9,127 minutes = 117 mins per goal
Lukaku: 85 Premier League goals in 14,090 minutes = 166 mins per goal

Kane needs 22 more goals to hit 100, which, based on the average rate scored shown above, he should do inside the next 29 games.

Lukaku needs 15 more goals to hit 100, which, based on the average rate scored shown above, he should do inside the next 27 games.

If both players remain uninjured, the above stats suggest that the race to 100 will be close and will likely hinge on the fixture list.

He is gonna smash every PL goalscoring record in next few years, including blowing
Kane off the top of the charts.

Those states are meaningless when Harry Kane was playing for the 2nd placed side in the league and Lukaku for the 7th placed side.

They go back to 2012-13 when Kane was on loan to Norwich. And in 2013-14 Spurs finished 6th, then 5th the season after.

I don't see how goals-per-minutes stats over such a long period are "meaningless".

Doesn't Kane tend to score significantly more in the second half of the season though? That's what I recall and if it wasn't for that I'd fancy him to give Rom a run, I think he might have a slow start this season.

I'm not sure without checking, but I think that has more to do with the periods when Kane has been out injured.

Depends on who else we buy. If we sort out our midfield and buy another attacker to service Lukaku, I think he'll break 100 PL goals by February.

Pointless stats when you consider Lukaku has spent much of his time at vastly inferior clubs to Spurs including WBA.

I'd expect any strikers gpm to increase when joining a much better side.

Kane seems to start the season a bit slow but I feel he's currently better than Lukaku. Lukaku will be playing in a new team but at the same time Kane will be playing home games at Wembley which might affect entire Spurs side in general. I think it's a slight advantage to Lukaku.

Played 3 games for Norwich didn't he . Lukaku played 30 odd games for West Brom.

    And Everton finished 5th & 11th .

Kane is class, but you don't need pointless silly stats to prove it, we all know what a top top striker he is.

I'd say Kane if they were level. Let's say if Kane would do significantly worse next season (by his standards) and score a goal every 150 minutes that would mean 23 goals in 38 games.

It's hard to say because you've got a player in Lukaku that crushes smaller teams at Everton joining a team that creates a bunch of chances against them and that's the majority of games. Lukaku should score 20 goals with us if he's playing 30 games so unless he starts in a serious slump he'll get there first.

Dunno why you're getting bashed for this if these are the raw figures. Kane's been shit hot since he got the nod at Spurs.

I think we can expect Lukaku's MpG to fall at United though which I'd say makes him odds on to get the ton first. I expect his United MpG to be much closer to Kane's than his own current stat

Mainly because I doubt Kane's figures would be so impressive if he spent a full season on loan at West Brom before joining Spurs.

The gpm stat is silly also the players have spent most of those minutes playing for comparable teams.

A much better stat (which should still be in Kane's favour) would be the gpm for the seasons/minutes since Lukaku joined Everton.

Lukaku has got to where he is whilst playing in significantly poorer teams. I bet on him getting there first

They are not "pointless, silly stats", they are figures which obviously have some bearing on which player will hit the 100 mark first.

Interesting stats alright, but they only really have a bearing on what's already happened (on how they've achieved their tallies thus far). They don't offer much in the way of predictive value.

Why should their minutes per goal ratio from 5 or 6 years ago translate to how much they'll score next season? They're different players now and their teams are different too. Simply using last year's stats would be a lot more relevant and even then with so many variables in play it's something that's simply impossible to predict.

It's very hard to know, depends on remaining transfers, fixtures and both players being fit. Kane is in a more settled side and has a great understanding with his teammates. Lukaku playing with Everton and United are two different things. I think we need to bring in another good wide player to maximise Lukaku's potential. If Lukaku gets of to a great start, then he get do it by February. Then you have to wonder how Spurs and kane will get on at Wembley. They are two fantastic players, too hard to call because of the unknown factor for now.

    Lukaku.
You can't give him a 7 goal headstart and expect Kane to catch up. Especially if Lakuku unhandicaps himself and takes pens for us

Yeah, now that he's playing for the 6th placed side his scoring stats should go through the roof.

I wouldn't put it past Kane to catch him up. He has 78 in 113, including a near perfect 1:1 ratio last season (29 in 30). Both players have the ability to go on a scoring glut and get 3 or 4 a game, if Lukaku is slow out of the gate then Kane could easily overtake him in a month or so.

To be fair, 3rd-6th were seperated by 9 points (after we sacrificed the Premier League for Europa). The gap from 6th (us) to 7th (Everton, who had no Europe or domestic cup) was 8 points.

Kane always gets injured though. That's why his minutes played are always less than everyone else. I don't think it matters who gets to 100 first as Lukaku could end up scoring 15 (new club, etc, as someone pointed out) whereas Kane slowly gets to 22 eventually by May.

It would be more than likely Kane's 22 goals get Spurs top four while Utd could just fall short again. Not saying that will happen but pointing out the folly of aiming for 100 as a standalone target.

That'd be fantastic. I reckon Lukaku will reach 100 first but the first to 22, I'm not so sure.

Depends if Lukaku's on pens/freekicks really.

They certainly help pad Kanes' stats.

Saying that though I think Lukaku will be on fire for us, can see him hitting 30 this year.
