France football asked Santiago Cañizares, Francesco Toldo, Mark Schwarzer, Sepp Maier and Lionel Letizi to Rank current keepers and they ranked Manuel Neuer the best keeper and David De gea seventh in the list behind Keylor Navas, Hugo Lloris and Thibaut Courtois

Anyone putting Lloris above De Gea needs to give their head a wobble.

They have a right to their opinions, but I personally disagree.

Someone on the Totally Football Show made the point that if you look at the statistics for mistakes over the past few seasons, Neuer has been attributed with double that of De Gea.

    Just saying.

Good. I'll happily let everyone else think he's average if it means we keep him til he retires.

Personally have zero problem with this. I hope De Gea remains as underrated as possible outside of Utd in order to keep him here as long as possible.

He's the best keeper in the world, but I'm far more concerned about us keeping hold of him than having him top all these rankings.

    Buffon is old and slow

He would be the best in the world if he was still 28.

De Gea has been in the Top 3 GKs in the world the past 4 seasons.

And now I can say without bias he is the worlds best keeper.

    Feck this list.

Idc what anyone says but DDG has been the best goalkeeper to date this season. Don't care about reputation or the past, I'm talking about the now. And right now, he's on a level of his own.

Btw that's quite a rubbish list it we're being completely honest.

I'm surprised they didn't put Dorumamamurama or what's his name in there above DDG too.

I've got the impression before that keepers turned pundits haven't been a fan of De Gea's methods, saving with his feet etc. and prefer a more traditional keeper.

I think that in 5/10 years time we will be seeing young GKs saving much more with their feet/legs and we'll attribute De Gea as having a big influence on goalkeeping.

If Madrid are listening: Navas is better officially, so there no need to try and take De Gea away. :nervous:

The list is obviously terrible but I've been wondering for a while why Buffon is always scoring so high on those rankings nowadays? I get it, he's a legend and everything but he's not in the top 5 quality wise right now, yet everyone seems to have him at least third or even first like the FIFA World 11. Any reason behind his hype in the last few years?

They’re entitled to their opinions - but they’re wrong. At worse de Gea is second best in the world.

The keepers they polled are hardly legends themselves...

They need to put De Gea deep down , so in the future they compare their " best keepers " with them , and they will look great. 4D Chess.

Erik Thorstvedt seems to be a big fan of Dave. That being said, before joining Liverpool, Thorstvedt said Mignolet was the best in the league. In all fairness, Mignolet had a good season, but still.
