Buffon is so overrated it's not even funny. Legend of the game and all, but he hasn't been top 3 since 2013-2014 imo.

Also I find Hugo Lloris painfully average. I guess he's the French National team captain, so he brings some gravitas but he wouldn't make top 5 for me.

United have the biggest fanbase in the world. These nomarks know that to generate clicks and revenue they must give an unorthodox opinion, one that might generate interest/outrage from said largest fanbase.

This guy makes so many high profile mistakes, yet his reputation survives. Must be a Spurs thing - remember they beat Real Madrid earlier.

Aye, the list really would have been complete with big Joe Hart sneaking into the top 5

nah, he is obvioysly horribly past his phyisical prime and unable to make the feline astonishing saves of his early years but he gained in composure, charisma and ability to influence the game, which are part and parcel of the role... most of all, though, his last year numbers are just as impressive as you can get... just forget his name and age, it was neither simpatia nor hall of fame driving his designation.

Even if this was the case, goes to show the panel who made the rankings don't got a clue.

Very stupid, anyone who says he's not top 3 is just plain wrong. And to be honest for FIFA team of the year it's only between him and boffon down to Neuers injury.

Buffon isn't even in the top 3 keepers in Serie A. Shocking list.

The top three are pretty obvious. Order probably varies pretty regularly depending on form.

As far as the list in the OP, this is Mark Schwarzer and a man who is probably bitter that De Gea knows how to apply aftershave safely.

Every big club feels that way about their games, but the reality of the situation is that world class players are judged by what they do in the CL and for their NT.

It's not really De Gea's fault, but the reason to why he might be underrated is precisely for that reason.

Lets all agree with this list - and let's inform Real Madrid that it is 100% accurate.

Probably rigged as a PR stunt for clicks. What a surprise the United player who's the main 'controversy'.

Team honours don't necessarily indicate the prowess of an individual player, though I accept they can be useful in separating the good from the great/tiers of greatness etc.

In any case what business does Lloris have in being three places above DDG in anything but a WUM clickbait list?

Nah. De Gea is quite clearly the best in the world by quite a margin, only ABU's would disagree. If he moved to RM last summer, no one would be saying otherwise.

    Would agree with this.

Just seems logical to me because every single list like this has really outrageous picks.

I don't actually give one shite where people land on these lists so my observation is not Bluemoonesque in essence.

That’s bizarre. I can imagine underrating him as like 3rd maybe...but 7th? That’s just one of the most stupid football related things I’ve read in a long time.

As Troopz said, De Gea has dickheads in front of him and still does his ting, ya understand fam?

Name me 3 better keepers in Serie A?

Roma's keeper is the only outstanding keeper imo.

De Gea is clearly the best 'keeper in the world. But to look at things another way, it is true to say that all but one of the goalies above DDG have played in CL finals. The only one who hasn't is Lloris, who has 94 caps for France to De Gea's 25 for Spain.

The list is not an accurate reflection of ability, but there does appear to be a bit of method to the madness.

De Gea is probably the best keeper in the world but like others said, CL and NT teams performances play a huge role in how a player is perceived. That's why this type of lists are generally bad, just think about "best players" lists attackers are over represented because they get the most exposure.

Ay its amazing how much some still rate Buffon based on his longevity.

Eh, why are you so eager to force retire him? He’s still great, very consistent, a leader at the back and not at all prone to making mistakes. He is still among the best in the world and has done nothing to show otherwise.

He plays in a team that has/had amazing if not the best defenders in the world in front of him. Get him in a team like Inter or Milan who has a leaky defense and it'll show his true ability. Though Inter this season have been pretty solid at the back
