If we buy him that Brazilian chick will be proven right.

..no she won't, but it would be extremely stupid to even consider him.

He will in addition to being a permanent sicknote blast open our wage budget, and Pogba and DDG will follow suit when they re-negotiate their deals.

If he could stay fit for us we could be CL contenders.

This is a signing that you'd expect from a manger like Jose. Just wasting money on big names for the sake of it. Bale has done nothing in the last 18 months. Real will fleece us for £50M+ whilst they then use that money to sign a younger RW who will no doubt go on to be better for them than Bale would be.

It's bad but I'd still take him for £60m or less. Buy someone like Malcom as well whilst we're at it and we'd have a squad of 4 legitimate wide forwards.

    LW: Martial/Rashford
    RW: Bale/Malcom

He is on something like 600k\week at RM and will only be fit for 40% of the season. Massive waste if I've ever seen one.

For the right price and wages he'd be a very good signing but there's no way that's happening.

This is Real we're talking about. They'd probably want at least what they paid for Bale in the first place.

They should have sold him in the summer and agreed a deal to sign Mbappe. There was nothing that indicated that Bale was suddenly going to become a player who can play a prolonged run of games injury-free.

Pls state just 'one big name for the sake of it' that Mourinho has signed his entire career??? If anything Mourinho signs the opposite: ie players that will strengthen positions in his various formations.

It's well documented we need a proven and world class wide man. Bale fits the bill. I'd take him in a heartbeat over an unproven and inconsistent wonderkid

Bale isn't consistently available. Earning what he earns, he'd be an atrocious signing.

I'd love another Welshman at United, but we should stay well clear of Bale!

if they maintain that stance then no one will sign him.

seems to me that the only reason United would try for Bale again is because he's been made available by Madrid, and if that's the case and they want to get rid of him, they will do so (they'll be forced to do so) at a cut price fee. who knows what that fee would be but they aren't getting £85m for him with his injury record and his salary, no chance.

In today’s market I would gleefully take Bale at 40m. World class player with injury problems. If he can overcome those, he’d be a sensational signing. Worth the punt I think.

Daily Mirror and The Guardian reporting this morning that Real are fed up with Bale's injuries and that we'll pounce in the summer.

A couple of years back I'd have jumped all over this but he'll be 29 before next season starts, has been plauged with injuries and would no doubt take a massive chunk of our summer budget. This one doesn't make sense anymore and I certainly wouldn't do anything that means big Dave goes in the opposite direction.

The guy did play close to 280 games in total over the last 7 seasons - it's not like he is never playing. In comparison, Danny Rose (Who some seem to think would be a good fit for us) has played a total of about 200 games in his entire career, and a total of 120 games over the last 5 seasons.

He would be a terrible signing. He is so injury prone it's not funny. He would just sit alongside Luke Shaw at the Physio table every week earning 300k per week. Stop this obsession with Marquee glamour signings and get players that are quality but without the big names. Man City sign players for footballing reasons whereas we just want a big name for marketing reasons. Check out Leon Bailey or Malcolm two guys that are just reaching their prime, that's the kind of players we should sign not some injury prone fading galactico.

We should definitely steer clear of this deal because it is fundamentally rotten - unless Madrid are willing to pay a big chunk of his salary and are ready to accept an offer of no more than £30 million (on the extreme lower end, yes, but you have to consider the total expenditure with his exorbitant wages) to partly free themselves of the ridiculous financial outlay. Bale's game is largely predicated on his stamina and athleticism - and converting his speed to bursts of extreme momentum when he finds himself in space. At his age, that athleticism is going to become a diminishing asset in the years to come - especially when you consider his injury record in the recent past:

This reeks of an Owen/Torres type situation where a player goes on a downward spiral once he's robbed of that element of overwhelming pace with a litany of niggling issues - especially when you consider the bulk on his body vis-à-vis a Robben who's pretty lean and has greater technical ability (which didn't nosedive all of a sudden) to negotiate with his fitness-related concerns.

Certainly seems that way when you watch him play, and that impression is corroborated by the stats:

Also, he's never been keen on United - so there will definitely be a few question marks as regards his motivation levels. Rather sign an up-and-comer.

In this crazy market, with our crazy revenues, I said it’s a punt worth taking. A punt can be any size. The amount of risk is commensurate with the size of the transaction and contextual factors.

Bale's injured more than half the time. A perfectly fit Bale for De Gea is not a good deal let alone a unfit Bale. He's 28 and when he does come to United, he'll be 29 and past his prime as well. This is such a bad deal. Madrid can look for another club for a Bale out.
