I love it. There's been so many negative reactions to McTominay starting (and our line up in general today) but I still get so excited seeing a youth player get a chance. It's like I live vicariously and can imagine what that feeling must be like.

Starting today, on the 60th anniversary of Munich, for one of the biggest clus in the world. He must be buzzing.

In a week where money in football has been an especially burning issue isn't this what we want to see. It's one of the best things about united and the day we lose that connection with the young players will be a sad one.

Sure it backfires sometimes and we've had some players who it's gone badly for but so what, when a young player is thrown in in place of a huge money signing just back him, let's hope he succeeds.

Even to be sitting on the bench as a 7th sub must be an incredible feeling for a young player, but to start at old Trafford. Incredible.

Long may our managers keep giving these opportunities

Seeing City's bench earlier I don't know why they didn't just stick another youngster on the bench to fill the numbers

Neville was critical on that decision. I suppose Pep just didn't bother, he only needs a backup keeper for insurance.

Reported for positivity. Please read the 4-2-3-1 needs to die or we'll never win the league threads for some pointers on how we do it around here.

It's been good but could be better. cough ( negativity) cough

In all seriousness, Lindeloffff, Mikhi, Lukaku could've had their places taken by academy players. Could still come good but 1 is already out and the other 2 don't impress either.

One of the greatest romantic nuances about supporting United is the youth going through. Long may it continue no funny jokes, ok?!?

It seems like some use it as ammunition only, in that they'll moan when they do start but if Jose didn't play them then they'd attack him for it.

One thing for sure, talent aside, our academy players knows they have the chance to play first team football in United because no matter whos in charge as manager here, we always give our own chances. Maybe Mou being forces to play youth, maybe he really impress with them, who knows. I just love when every season there's someone new coming through our rank.
On note side, i want to see more of Gomes this season, prefer in PL's match, maybe at the end of this season.

Jim Beglin said in the commentary that Pep had being whinging about the physical nature of the game in England and was trying to point out that his first team squad is hobbled with injuries. Not sure whether it can be backed up. Jim Beglin is a bit of a bluffer at the best of times.

Wasn't really optimistic at all regarding the lineup and Scott starting over Pogba but it was nice to see as the game went on. Scott has been getting good chances recently and although he has his flaws, he can be a nice squad player for us over time.

Great to see McTominay get a full match. Was solid today. Hope he gets the confidence to pass forwards more often. Too many passes sideways.

Thought he did very well. Bit nervy at the start, but that's to be expected. This will give him huge amounts of confidence.

I didn't think at all in the 2nd half 'Oh no, McTominay has it', it was more 'Right, McTominay has it, what's he going to do with it?'

I'm usually a fairly negative person, but he carried himself well and performed to the standard I'd expect. I hope this gives him the motivation to continue and improve further. Good job Scott.

    No...?

Because he has given quite a few oppurtunities to our youngsters - something his detractors thought he wouldn't?

    Understand?

The media narrative has always been bizarre. Especially about our academy being in decline. We produce more top flight players than any other club. You look at the squad today and you see the clubs traditions going strong:

De Gea - signed at 19.
    Smalling - signed at 20.
    Shaw - signed at 19
    Mctominay - Academy product
    Lingard - Academy product
    Rashford - Academy product
Pogba - Academy product (sort of)
    Martial - signed at 19.

Jones, who usually plays, is another who came in as a teenager.

It’s what we’ve always done. Make stars instead of buying them.

I love it. It was great to see Mctominay play today. Was worried when I saw the line up, but that’s not solely because of his inclusion.

Valuable experience for him. Credit to Mourinho.

You made what point? The point you replied to had nothing to do with beating a poor side at home, so I don't think you grasped why you yourself was even making that point.

The point was he gave McTominay a start against a dire team at home. How many more starts will he get? What other youth players has he given a chance too?

    I don't get the excitement.

If that was the point you were making why did you word it as though it was about beating a poor side at home? Jose dropped pogba to the bench and started a youth prospect, why does it matter who it against? When bringing through youth do you not think it is best done against the poorer sides at home or something?

This is the best aspect of this club, what is it now about 3,700 odd consecutive games in which a young player has been involved in a match day squad, it is a trademark of our club, and one that each and every fan of the club should rightly be so very proud of.

I have gotten some stick recently for my praise of Lingard, but he is a shining light as to what our club is all about.
He perhaps was not the most hyped player from his particular generation, he went out on loan, was not perhaps in as good as form as he (and us) might have liked, but with a great deal of work and patience on our part, look at how good he has become.

He would most likely have been chucked out of the door asap, but here he has been allowed to grow and develop into England's best attacking player.

I hope that we never put a side out without any representation from our younger players, it is just such a great aspect of our club.

The fact that families know that their dream for their child(ren) is most likely to happen with us rather than anyone else Inthe whole country is something that is very heartwarming.

Having a team full of players that have been bought (and a bench like that), would be such a shame, no matter the talent levels on show, we should be about far more than that.

Seeing people like Gomes, McTominay, Tuzanbe, Mensah etc, all develop and play in the first team, and follow in the footsteps of players like Scholes, Becks, Gary Neville, Phil Neville, Giggs, Fletcher, Brown, Welbeck, and Rashford, is unbelievable really.

I would feel numb if say we achieved success with a squad full of players that we had played for, it would not be true success, it would almost feel like cheating, rather than doing it as I think that it should be done, with a good mixture of the two.

Its a special feeling alright, i am so glad for McT, he seems different type tho, not raiding on the hype, he is not wasting his chances and minutes. Its a great to see. for example, even today Rashford`s PL debut vs Arsenal puts a smile on my face. Wish JM had similar approach to other players like Axel, he could get more minutes instead of Darmian etc.
