World cup year is usually a bad time to sign players early so who is:
    • Attainable
    • A good player
    • What we need
    • Not going to the world cup 2018

    The OP says :
    • Attainable

I wish he was though. He's my dream signing in midfield. Would be a perfect 6 for our midfield in the Pirlo role. Think about a midfield of Verratti, Matic and Pogba in a 4-3-3  Pogba would love that that's for sure.

I'm just hoping at some point he's going to be bored of the french league and think Manchester is nicer than Barcelona.

I would like for our dealings to be done before WC. But some good players not going also.

It's funny cos you're serious. Must be devastated that you couldn't add David Luiz to that list!

If Ross Barkley and Danny Drinkwater are good enough to be squad players at Chelsea, Joe Allen is more than capable of being a squad player at United. He would be a decent replacement for Carrick.

    Boyhood United fan too.

Aouar is very interesting. I could see him and Herrera (assuming his form returns) forming a pretty good platoon as the CM option next to Pogba, with Aouar playing when we need more attacking and Herrera when we want to mark an opposing CM or hassle them. A lot of potential. Strong advanced stats if I remember correctly too.

Jorge looked fantastic when I watched some early season Monaco games. Would be a excited about that. Less familiar with the others. Cyprien is a sort of Carrick type, right?

I don't know if Allen is a strong enough 6 to be worth it. I think Herrera is a good backup for Matic and can split time when we play a 3rd CM with the better attacker or passer we should sign, ideally someone like a young Fabregas or De Bruyne or Kovacic. Basically someone really great on the ball.

That's not who I'd compare him to. Perhaps Carrick in his early days at United and his Spurs stint, but not the Carrick we've seen in recent years. I think Cyprien has more goals in him and is definitely a better dribbler.

Yes, Aouar has been very impressive stats wise.

Allen is really great on the ball. He does the simple things. Every team needs a player like that.

Carrick will likely be retiring and we could probably get him for around £15 million. As a squad option, I can’t think of many better.

Malcom's not going to the world cup right? I mean its possible, but I'd be surprised if he made the squad, he's never been called up to the senior team.

Pulisic seems to be the obvious answer, but we don't have nice history with BVB players do we ?

I like Allen, but do you think he's a great fit for a Mourinho side? And do you think he's as good a 6 as an 8.

I really hope we don't pad our squad with more average "squad options". We have those already. We should get players who have world class potential and can rival the starters.

Barca bought Yerry Mina. Don't think De Ligt will go to be on the bench. So maybe...

Frenkie is not attainable. Not even with a big bag of money. Just signed a new contract and won't leave. 100%.

Overmars will play hardball coming period. There are a few really big talents in their first (or second) year in the first team. Those players won't be available for at least another year. Vd Beek, De Ligt and De Jong signed a new contract. Kluivert will follow soon.

Not sure how Drinkwater is a good example for what United should be doing. Can think of a few players as Carrick's replacement that are better than Joe fecking Allen for United.

    Ben Brereton.
Could he be an outside bet for a new back-up strider to Lukaku, when Zlatan quits.?

Barca might yet sign them both, it looks as though Mascherano is leaving in the Summer, and possibly Vermaelen too, so it would leave them short with only Piqué, Umtiti and a lad however talented in Mina that hasn't played in Europe to cover the central defensive positions for next season.

If we can pull of Sanchez, that would be a amazing buy for this Jan. Jose seems to have turned his attention to getting a goal-scoring attacker since Zlatan will most likely leave as he hasn't proven much since getting back and that has also hindered Lukaku's progress. Sanchez could play anywhere in attack and he could also lead in Lukaku's absence. The only way I can see this happening if City refuse to pay what Arsenal demand.

Honestly, we need to bolster a lot of positions and we lack depth in quality to do the job when the first 11 aren't available. Since we cannot splash the cash like City and PSG, we need to make sure to take advantage of the free transfers which would mean trying the hardest to get Sanchez and Ozil. That would leave us with money to spend on other cracks like Jorginho or Savic for Carrick and Pogba backup respectively.

    Martial --- Lukaku --- Sanchez
    ----------------- Ozil -----------
    --- Pogba -----------------------
    ------------Matic ----------------
    Shaw - Bailly - Jones - Valencia
    ---------- De gea ---------------

Martial and Rashford have been rotated
Pogba and Savic would be rotated like Martial and Rashford
Matic and Jorginho can be rotated
Ozil, Mata and Lingard can be rotated
