I like the list but Morata instead of one of the 8 defs would have been better I think, Javi Martinez not making the list is a surprise since he can play as a defensive midfielder and as a CB too.

Martinez left out but Thiago in? Did he get the wrong player? Btw, he should have bring both.

Wouldn't be surprised if Portugal don't make it out.

Jalal Hosseini and Vouria Ghafouri shockingly have been left out of Iran's squad. Iranians everywhere are furious.

This is a very difficult group for all the non spain teams. Morocco and Iran aren't all that bad, Morocco especially.

I agree, too many defenders.Alba seems untouchable and I think Azpilicueta or Nacho could have played there instead Monreal

8 defenders is okay, I think. But, 5 out of the 8 are fullbacks. Only Ramos, Piqué & Nacho are centerbacks. That is overkill

Javi Martizez should have gone instead of Monreal I think. It probably doesn't matter though.

I'm hoping they remember the 5-1 against the dutch 4 years ago and just play it safe in the first game against us. I'll take a 1 goal loss.

That strike force for Spain without Costa is weak. Even Costa doesn’t turn up for them. Not sure why people make them favourites.

I don't think Morocco will pass the group but they'll play some fantastic games against Spain and Portugal. Watch them out.

Aspas has outscored Griezmann and only fell 3 goals short from Suarez, he's been great this season and could have a good world cup.

I'm super fed up with no Sergi Roberto or Javi Martinez in this list, Julen's loss, if we get to face Germany, France or Brazil with Busquets injured/banned for that game we're coming back home with a truck of goals on us.

I do not believe that role of victim. Portugal is a very competitive, and uncomfortable team(the best example are the games between us), that can kill you in a play and that knows our game perfectly. I do not think it's a guaranteed victory as I saw in a couple of your posts. I would be happy with a draw

Rodrigo looked great so I don't really mind Morata being left out but I would have selected Cesc instead of Monreal.

Yep, most important is to not lose our game against portugal. I think it'll be a draw, especially as it's the first game.

So Cesc could have got married during the summer? Think Martinez should have gone. Knew Morata was at risk of not going, he hasn't done enough to be picked.

We always play like crap in the first game and we haven't looked great recently. If we lose by 1 goal then 4 points in the next 2 games should be enough but you're perfectly capable of putting 3 or 4 past us and then we'd be in real trouble as Iran and Morocco are no joke. It's the first game so I'm hoping there's a lot of nerves and it turns into a cagey and boring game.

2004 was incredible, in 2010 Villa was offside but you deserved to win. In 2012 it was the sickest I've ever felt after a game of football. Especially after the way the final went.

Spain could have done without a striker, tbh. They don't need him for their style of play.

    Shocking that Fabregas is out.

Portugal usually manages to struggle badly in group stages. I literally do not know anything about Morocco and Iran's players, so there's no way to predict.

Monreal played as CB too. TBF, Spain doesn't produce enough CBs. Jav Martinez should be called up though. He can play CB to decent level.

Edit: For all the cry about Cesc (I saw mostly with Spanish league follower posters), do people actually watch him enough or just base on his previous reputation. I meant even a casual follower who watch like 1/4 of Chelsea games, I can tell he is way below his standard few years ago. Hell, even his strength (killer pass) is way off. Last season he didn't start as much yet still did well raking in assist as he usually did. This season he couldn't even utilize that strength of his.

    ---------------Patricio----------------

    Cedric----Pepe--Bruno Alves---Guerreiro

    Bernardo---William---Moutinho---Mario

    ---------Andre Silva--Ronaldo---------

This is our most likely first team. Bruno Alves' spot is up for grabs and it will be decided during the friendlies.

Why Casillas was not named in the squad ? (Did he actually retire from international football or was not picked due to technical reasons like all the others left out ?)

They have bunch of full backs, those who are versatile enough to cover the CB position when necessary, given their lack of CBs. Midfield is crowded with options (even the defensive wide players got covered by Koke and Saul if they go for narrow 4-4-2) so Sergi Roberto exclusion is understandable.

I'd say a mixture of technical reasons and formation of a group of future avoiding problems.Casillas is a very important figure and surely would create an unnecessary debate about his presence on the bench. I think something similar happens with Cesc.

    I agree.

Spain to probably win all three games and Morrocco to get through on 4 points on GD or something.

Portugal big name casualty of group stages.

Depends if Fonte can find the form he was in 2 years ago or not. He was barely good enough for West Ham's bench and he's now playing badly in China... Ruben Dias might start, young Benfica defender who is inexperienced and has mistakes in him. Has done well enough to start for Benfica but he's nothing special.

The most worrying thing is we have no great CBs coming up, Pepe is now 35. After he's gone we might have to start playing midfielders there. Danilo got injured otherwise he'd be a starter at CB and he isn't even a defender.

I get it, but i'd still trust more in Casillas than in Reina should something happen to De Gea (Please no!). Reina is kind of in a similar spot to Petr Cech in the sense of he's past his prime (and so is Casillas but I believe him to be the less shot of the two)

In that case, I think Kepa would play, but let's hope to see the real de Gea and not the one of the last Euro. Reina is there to welcome the new ones, create a good atmosphere and make jokes. I think he is aware that it is his role, as was in the past.
