Martial doesnt do any defensive work. Lazy Bastard.
He doesnt do enough off the ball and we need workers against Ajax.

Since we have different rules for different players probably not, in truth he should always start cause there isn't another option as good as him even when he's having an average game.

Miki, Martial, Mata and Rashford. Get Lingard in at 70th minute mark if needed.

It may not be the right mentality but I think he's done enough by just being himself. We have no other player like him for the wide areas, and he's just generally better than Lingard who will most likely start. Also, I think if you were to take into account Lingard's recent form as well it should go in Martial's favour.

    I hope to see:
    -------Rashford-------
    Martial---Mata---Mkhitaryan
    ----Pogba---Herrera

With Carrick coming in the 2nd half if we are up 2-0.

Mourinho surely can see that Martial has the potential to be a great player. But Mourinho's way to motivate him to step up his game is to challenge him. Perhaps playing an average Lingard over him is all part of Jose's attempt to get Martial to produce at a higher level.

I'd lower those hopes. When is the last game Mata played as a 10 with only 2 CMs behind him? I'd be fecking shocked if one of Carrick or Fellaini doesn't start.

It'll be Rashford up top, Pogba and Herrera in midfield, Valencia and Darmian at fullback, probably Blind and Jones at CB.

The big question marks are Fellaini vs Carrick in midfield, and which 2 of Mata, Lingard, Mkhitaryan and Lingard will play on the wings.

That's what I'd like but you jut know it's going to be a three man midfield.

I'm afraid to say I'd go with Lingard. I think we could be up against it against Ajax and we need players who track back and work hard. Ajax are busy and Lingard can match their energy levels whereas Martial wouldn't.

Martial's season has been disappointing and way below way the level I'm sure he's capable of. Hopefully we'll see more from him next season as he's potentially twice the player of Lingard.

Ambitious to think we'll get a 2 goal lead!

I'd start Carrick instead of Mata. I think the defence will need greater support and Ajax move the ball quickly and close the space down, both of which are failings in Mata's game.

The rest makes sense although I can see Lingard starting instead of Martial and I can understand and agree with the rationale for doing so.

What? Pretty much every game those two started against any of these high pressing teams (Liverpool, Man City, Tottenham, Celta etc.) they had absolute stinkers or got subbed very early due to poor performances.

He shouldn't start. He's been shite this season, no excuses.

Lingard will offer more. Tracks back, runs in behind and might actually bag a goal considering it's a final.

I would play Mata and Lingard on the wings supporting Rashford.

He's done a hell of a lot more than Lingard in the past 10 games with less opportunities.

Is this actually a thing now with Lingard? Why doesn't he do it in the smaller games too?

Who knows? I like to think the tactics this season were "get it to Zlatan" so that's why our goal scorers list looks so short.

Lingard scored a few last season. He's a better option than Martial at this point in time in my opinion. And he will try harder.

If we go with a 4-3-3, he should play on the left. With Mkhi on the right and Rashford up top. As many have said, he's done more than Lingard and deserves that place ahead of him.

Even when he's having a bad or average game he still poses more of a threat than our other attacking players and needs to be double-marked by the opposition. He can create something out of nothing with his running, dribbling and shooting. Something Lingard can't do.

Lingard starts for me, and runs himself into the ground for 60 minutes. His JS Parkesque hasseling, and his understanding with Rashford could make a difference in us getting a grip on this game.

    Pogba, Herrera, Fellani in midfield
    Lindgard & Mikiteryan wide
    Rashford up top.

Carrick for Fellani if we need to calm down (or Fellani gets booked).

If we are losing on 60 minutes, bring on Mata for Lindgard, to help break Ajax down. If we are winning and can play on the break, bring on Martial instead.

Martial does not understand his defensive responsibilities and Lingard is shite going forward. Therefore Martial will start if the manager wants his wide player to attack, Lingard will start if he wants his wide player to defend.

I would not be surprised if Mkhitaryan and Mata both start the game as wide players because they both understand attacking/defensive responsibilities with Lingard and Martial to come off the bench.

I think Martial has looked our only threat in the last couple of games so I hope he does. Im sure we will see him at some point in the final tho.

I would personally wait and see how he performs in training sessions leading to the final. No doubt he is a talent and on his day he can do serious damage and show flashes of brilliance. Sadly, those days have been numbered this season. But this just one game that we need to win and whatever has happened previously in the season barely matters for this one game. Players will have a clean sheet as soon as they step onto the pitch and all they have to do it push themselves the hardest for 90 minutes. Although Martial can be a tad lazy (?) on his bad days and while he may not perform consistently for an entire season, this is one game, one big game for the club and Martial, I believe, can concentrate for at least these important 90 minutes and be the difference. If he looks focused in the days leading up to the final, he should start, and he may well grab the winning goal/assist.

Not sure if he should start but he, Mikhi and Pogba are the only players who can create a goal for themselves out of nothing and we may need that.

Martial does work quite hard off the ball, but I don't think he'll start ahead of Lingard in the final. Mhiki and Lingard either side of Rashford, with Pogba, Herrera and Felliani in midfield would be my prediction. Martial off the bench if we're in need of a goal.

I would like to see him start on the left. He's looked like a completely different player recently, but I think Lingard will be the one to start for his movement off the ball. Martial may just have to come off the bench and make himself a hero though, so he needs to be prepared in any event.

Martial on the left, Mata on the right and no Lingard. For me it will be the best thing. But Jose will play Lingard surely.

I'd certainly play him over Lingard, but then I'd prefer to start with Mata, Rashford and Mkhitaryn.

Martial has been too inconsistent to start. I would say privately Jose is disappointed with Martial and Mkhitaryans contributions this season despite both of them shiwing flashes of brilliance.

I would start Mkhi and Martial, subbing Mata on if we need a goal. Won't happen. It will be Lingard.
