I was curious, how do you guys think Alexis will fit in if his reported wages are accurate? If Pogba, who is our best player is only on half the money of Alexis, do you not think this discrepancy in salaries can become a problem for the locker room? Don’t get me wrong, I’m excited to add a player of Alexis’s quality to the side, but at what cost to what we are building? It seems the team has good chemistry and things are moving forward and I do not want to see anything mess with that. I believe Jose knows what he is doing but I do have some doubts. By the way, I am already dreading our dealings with Raiola when Pogba is up for a new deal.
It's the end of any chance we had, things will be bad. Fights. Anarchy. Dogs and Cats living together. It'll be the German's bombing Pearl Harbor all over again.
Probably more interested in the fact we are signing a world class player who will help the team (and therefore them) to achieve success. Anything to do with salaries is for the agents to cry about during negotiations. Of course, the reported salary is no doubt bullshit anyway, just like most reported salaries turn out to be.
What’s wrong with the world? Let him at least play a couple games, see how other players respond to him before asking this question. If anything, other players should aspire to play at his level to increase their wages. We are one of the biggest clubs in the world and our players will always earn a lot of money.
We are not going to be paying him £500k/week when City, the only other team interested wouldn't go over around £250k.
Why stop at double the highest wages? Are we too broke to provide him his own locker room? That would be embarrassing!
Attackers are normally paid substantially more than the rest of the team. Alexis is proven World class, no one could bat an eyelid. I also hope that players like Pogba and de Gea will cherish that we sign a player who can match their ambitions and contribute a great deal in our way back to the top.
Alexis won’t be on twice as much as Pogba. They’ll be on roughly the same, and considering how much Sanchez has achieved throughout his career and the level he’s been performing consistently at for several years, I don’t think anyone in the dressing room will make any trouble out of that. Even if he’s on 100k more than Pogba.
Players aren't stupid, they understand that players incoming with less than 6 months on their current Contract demand higher wages. It's the whole reason Sanchez ran his contract down. People need to wise up and think realistically. I'm sick of people always trying to put a negative spin on everything. I dread to think how some people operate in the big bad real world.
Sanchez obviously won't be paid double what our current highest earners are on. He will probably be our highest earner but that will only cause trouble if we refuse to give commensurate pay rises to our other stars.
This. Our fans love taking the crazy numbers being thrown around by the football media as gospel while bashing them for everything else. The £270k number being reported seems about right, plus any bonuses or image rights, and a large signing on fee. Not totally outrageous in football terms considering Sanchez's ability and at this stage in his career.
Guys if you actually read the post my question was IF the reports are accurate. No one is saying the world's falling, the Germans are coming, or the media is accurate. Was a simple question as to how you think someone making 5x what others are making might matter. I don't believe all the reports and I was thinking the report of it being around270k is more accurate. I for one am glad we are getting another world class player and could care less how much he makes, but I am not on the team. I played sports into college in the US and I know how drama would begin at times over playing time and girlfriends, I couldn't imagine being in a position where money was really involved. I personally do not think it will matter to the guys what each other makes, but there has been a narrative concerning locker room dynamics because of the wages and I was wondering your thoughts on that point, not whether the media is right. By the way, living in the States, the pundits I see the most are on BeIn, ESPN, NBC, and XM radio and there may be 2 of 20 that are NOT anti-United so I never get a fair opinion from the media anyway.
There will be no trouble in the locker room as long as he delivers on the pitch. Other players don't usually bitch about other players contracts; they usually get their agent to sort it out privately with the club if they have a problem.
Wasn't Ibra on an insane wage first time around? Players im sure understand those signed on the cheap get a reward for running down their contracts.
It’s not your money. I would rather the Glazers spent £18m per year on a great player who will bring joy to the fans than that money sitting there in a bank account doing nothing, or being pocketed by the Glazers. Let the club manage its finances and we’ll sit back and enjoy the result.
They are most likely not accurate at all. In fact probably not even close so i doubt there will be any problems at all.
What I took away from this thread. Some people think the Germans bombed Pearl Harbour. On the lockerroom, meh Im sure it will be fine.
I guess nobody watches classic episodes of SNL anymore, @JustAFan Back on topic, any player interested in trophies will look at the Sanchez signing as a step (or giant leap, I hope) in the right direction!
I realised afterwards that I shouldn't have grouped you in with the others. I alway enjoy a good movie quote! "You should never underestimate the predictability of stupidity"
Do you really think that ed is that stupid and will give any player wage which is that much higher than pogba has or our other star player have?
Do you mean to ask how we, that is I (and others on here), feel about the locker room? If so, I feels fine.
