How important was Rui Faria in Jose's system?

I believe Rui Faria has always been assistant manager to Jose since his Porto days. And despite the recent years, Jose has been one of the best managers in football.

My question is how much Jose was dependent on Rui Faria for his system and tactics? Does his departure have anything to do with how poor we have been this season, and also the dispute between players and the manager?

Nothing to do with Rui. More to do with Jose himself.

No, it was going down anyway, look at Chelsea that season with Faria. We would be better, but not good enough nonetheless to make any sort of difference. He is important, but not to that extent to being able to stop the neltdown

    Maybe for defensive stuff.

We still played like Stoke last season.

So what you're saying is: Jose out, Faria in?

Mourinho's last Chelsea meltdown was bigger than this and I believe Faria was there at the time so I doubt it has made much difference either way.

We could do with a bit of Rui in the changing room right now.

We've been terrible since December. He was there for the majority of that.

Maybe Rui could have paid for the transfers that didn't happen over the summer

Nah. We didn't get the players in the summer that we needed, the CEO publicly undermined the manager and signalled the board's loss of confidence in him, the manager then chucked it and the existing squad has downed tools. Don't think tactics have played a part here to be honest.

No idea who'll be back in the defence, if it's Matic or someone else

I'm not saying Faria would have worked miracles.

But we had a very solid defensive record before. Since this season, we have been defending like utter shite. I have no clue what we are doing these days.

The same shit happened with Faria at Chelsea. Mourinho in his third year is probably the worst manager you can pick fir your team. You could probably give the job to clueless Moyes till the end of the year and things would improve because the toxicity is gone. If we go into next week with Jose as our manager Woody and the Glazers should retire.

If Faria was instrumental for the defensive stuff, wtf is our manager good at?

There were problems, sure, but the cloud of doom did not descend upon the club until August. The summer was a disaster.

And Mourinho's comments were a huge part of it.

Spurs didn't sign a single player and came to old Trafford and hit us for 3.
