How would you rate Kane out of 10 for the World Cup

This came up in best players in the world cup and its interesting.

Kane has benefited from 3 pens, each of which he has scored, but earned I think 2 of them? He has scored 6 in total.
That 6 is 2 ahead of Lukaku, Cheryshev and Ronaldo.

6 is enough for golden boot in 10 of last 11 world cups and 2 others prior to this. I'm not sure of those players how many pens were scored for each.

So how do you rate Kane? Very little sparkle or flair, just pure lethal finishing from very few opportunities.

For me in context it's hard to justify him not getting a 10 even though it feels like far too little spit and polish to be worth a 10.

Its a bit like a diamond covered in turd, but still a diamond.

    Thoughts?

Wasn't sold on him being appointed captain, but I think he's done really well, led from the front, and penalty or not - You still have to put them away. How many goals did the likes of Rooney & Owen score in WC tournaments? Says it all for me, really.

8/10 so far from me, at the very least.

6.5/10 Finished most of the chances that have come his way, but not actually created enough chances with his movement or produced as many assist as perhaps you'd like.

    Maybe around 7, I would say. That’s a generous 7, though.

If they make the final 8.5/10. If they win it, 10/10. Regardless of all else, being captain of this England team and making a final is brilliant.

It’s actually quite weird because I really don’t think he has been at the level you would normally expect Kane to be at. Hes still done some good things for the team. Sterling has probably been a more dangerous threat and if he could finish or produce the final ball he’d probably comfortably be one of the best players at the tournament yet because of the lack of end product most go with he’s been rubbish.

So 5/reluctant 6 out of 10. Be intresting to see how the spurs fans rate his performances.

Not great. Am amazed how little was said when he didn’t look to square it for Sterling that was very selfish.

Hes been alright. Excellent penalty taker but that doesnt get him a 10. It is "just" pens. 2 tap ins and a deflection he knew nothing about, didnt do much in the quarter finals and so far in the semi's. A 7/10 but nothing more really. Top scorer =/= best player, especially looking at the nature of the goals.

Trippier has been englands best IMO, while Maguire and Pickford have arguably been even more influential.

A 7 maybe? He scored most of his goals against terrible teams or scored from the spot but it is Harry Kane and the captain. Just having him in the team should make the opponent their defenders pay more attention to him which should give other English players more chances to do stuff.

Excellent hold up play when needed, done a job up front putting penalties away and scoring. Always threatening to win his 50/50's in the air against the opposing CB for Sterling or Lingard to run onto. Has come in for some rough house treatment as the only way to stop him with some serious rugby tackles on him. Probably should have had another penalty or two awarded for them.

    Trippier Englands best player.

8 he is incredibly important to the way England play and is generally lethal when given a chance.

If Kane was shite at pens who would take them? Henderson? Would you have trusted him against Colombia? Would someone else have stepped up cooly slotted after falcao put us 1 down in the shootout?

    Not higher than a 7.

Trippier and Maguire would be on 8 so far.

He’s played like this in most WC games. Yes he has scored a few pressure penalties, but he hasn’t been involved in much open play and hasn’t been linking up well with teammates.

Replying to you in here rather than the other topic mate.

For me I'd probably give him a 7.5, maybe an 8.

What chance was he lethal in?

I don’t think he’s had any impact on England’s play either.

Hardly had a decent supply apart from set pieces. Good movement and hold up play, harsh to just him by a couple of misses tonight. 7/10

Looking past all the hype - he's been shite in all of the knockout games. Panama and Tunisia were the equivalent of playing a league two side. 5.

In my reality, banging in three penalties, including a freak deflection against a pub side isn’t being lethal. You could say he’s definitely taken opportunities that have come his way, but lethal? He hasn’t looked dangerous enough to be deemed that in this World Cup imo.
