I’m sorry, but I can’t let this one go. There are some good City fans on here like @padr81 ,
but your manager and club are hypocrites.

He said he was delighted. Everyone knows their owners are dicks, but he can't express and opinion and only speak for himself now?

I think the fact it’s on the club’s twitter with the rainbow emblem around their club badge, when the club owners have laws in place in their own country to kill homosexuals. If Pep really cared would he work for these people?

or, you could not take 15 million a year to aide a nation state white wash its image of abusing countless people instead of talking a lot of shit about coloured laces, pep.

That’s what the op means by hypocrisy. Pep wants the rights of lgbt persons to be respected, but he’s happy to take millions from people that make sure lgbt persons have no rights. If he really cared, would he take that money? It’s not like he needs it, or couldn’t get it from another club. Perhaps one that isn’t bank rolled by people that kill homosexuals.

Can you prove that every UAE business unilaterally agrees with the state regarding the application of Shariah law?
Can you prove that the owners of Manchester City specifically agree with the application of Shariah law in this instance?

In the minds of people here, being a business and being from UAE is enough to paint with a massive broad brush of assumption.

I want 100% for LGBT peeps to be happy and honoured - but Pep taking millions to tactitfy football for his job & enjoyment isn't going to change anything.

Life is life ultimately. We are owned by Americans who have not been great themselves to plenty countries. Hell we come from a country that obliterated countries north east west & the south - was just lucky to not to be in a media driven time.

Keep football to football. Countries & religions should be kept out of it in my opinion.

The latest in a long line of bitter and odd threads on here recently.

Have a look at the replies to City changing their profile photo on Facebook to one with a rainbow background. They belong in the dark ages just like this thread.

I dunno, if you take it far enough then you’d find stuff like that all over the place. If you spent all day assessing whether or not every choice you made in life was 100% moral you’d drive yourself crazy. I guess it’s a bit different in Pep’s case - he’d have no shortage of suitors who aren’t owned by homophobes, but he can’t really be responsible for what his bosses think. It’s hypocritical of the club, sure.

Also, and I’m not defending their owners here, but to play devils advocate: are we sure the people who own the club are against homosexuality? Just because it happens to be the law in UAE doesn’t necessarily mean the people who run Manchester City endorse it. They might do, I genuinely don’t know. But it’s a bit like assuming all Muslims are homophobic.

It's fine for Guardiola to say it in an interview or whatever as a personal opinion.

The official twitter account should be keeping a fecking lid on it though, outrageous hypocrisy.

Sheikh Mansour is an influential member of the royal family, as well as deputy prime minister, and in the UAE the royal family have absolute rule.

That's why the link between City and the UAE came up during the Matthew Hedges imprisonment case, because Mansour could literally have had the guy released with a phone call.

If I can connect the dots in one move, it’s not that far. It’s not like peps sister brothers cousins roommate type deal. It’s peps employers. Direct employers. They people who own city, are the royal family of uae. They make the laws. There is no assuming going on here.

I found this to be a good read. https://medium.com/@NcGeehan/the-me...coming-soon-to-a-cinema-near-you-14bc8e393e06

You're banging your head against a brick wall with this point. Some people will not acknowledge the distinction. Interestingly, it comes here in a post saying we should keep politics out of football (usually said by those who on some level sympathise with the politics under question). Yet the poster in effect politicises everything by implying that one's country of origin taints you due to the actions of its government.

I don't think he cares about the hypocrisy. I think few people that speak to the media many times a weak are still making sure to not sound hypocritical.

The club is synonymous with UAE money now and for them to brandish this LBGT symbol in the form of captaincy or to tweet about it is way worse than Pep giving his own opinion and they should be called out on it.

He's a hypocrite. Maybe you saw him in that documentary meeting the Sheik. He was obsequious with a man who's regime stands for most things that Guardiola purports to disdain. Yet he takes the man's millions privately and professionally.

The leaders of the UAE are very well aware of how they are percieved abroad. They can't honestly believe that this shitty propaganda works in educated countries?

Most of us know very well what they stand for and their views on human rights.

Pep could have chosen to work in any club he wanted, yet he chose a club run by a family that upholds some of the most disguisting values humanity has to offer.

He would do well to keep his mouth shut about issues like theese.

It is working, that’s the problem. Propaganda always works when it’s done the way they’re doing it. Not dissimilar to how the euk government managed to convince the whole country that disabled people getting a couple of hundred quid a week was the reason for the recession. Just keep saying it over and over and over again. Eventually it’ll stick.

Can you imagine the uproar if Pep or the club came out and said "Feck this campaign, we hate the gays now because our owners do."

In fairness, our owners and there HR record is horrendous as is their opinions on LBGT but what is Pep supposed to say in this situation. Of course he's happy to take the owners money.

My boss for example is a dick, he dislikes everything and constantly bashes Eastern Europeans and Polish people in particular for some unknown reason (one of those racist irish people), he occasionally rattles on about English people too even though I'm one (he forgets because I have a strong Clare accent now). I work for him but still think the guys a racist wanker (I really hope he doesn't read the Caf... he's not a United fan so I should be ok), I take his money, I'm happy with it without agreeing with his very wrong views on the world.

Would I love that our owners were better people? You bet I would, I'm sure Pep would too but lets be honest.
I would be really curious as to what the owners think when they read such things from the club and manager. Are they fine with "their" club coming out and supporting these things etc...

Why are people surprised? Manchester City is nothing but a PR project designed to distract from how the owners choose to rule their country.

It's like me being a vegan because I care about animals, but owning a slaughterhouse.

Does your boss kill people? If he did, would you still take his money? And remember, pep doesnt need the money or the job. Hes already rich and can get paid the same amount anywhere else and get the same love. He can say whatever he wants, but hes taking money from people that kill people because they disagree with how they live their lives. They dont just bitch about "the gays" in hushed voices around the office. They line them up in front of a firing squad. chemically castrate them, lock them up, fine them, or boot them out the country.

If hes happy to take their money then he should be happy to say he doesnt really give a shit, just like you said you dont give a shit that your boss is racist. Im sure if he was acting on it, you would change that stance. Well, the owners of city are acting on it. And yet, he still takes the money.

As for the club and manager statement, this is PR. Thats what city is, thats what its being used for. Propaganda to change the world view of horrible people that do horrible things. If it was untied, I would have walked away years ago. And if that BSM saudi guy buys us as has been rumoured, I absolutely will walk away. Can not and will not support that. Ever.

Is it also hypocisy that we've set up a woman's team, considering our manager is such a women hating bully prick?

This is reaching beyond levels I've seen lately. You realize every club has owners who probably believe in something the general majority don't right?

you could say that, but I dont think its as clear cut as this. Jose treated Eva like shit very publicly. Was it because she was a woman? Didnt he also abuse the male doctor as well? If theres more to this about jose hating women, Im not familiar with it.

@ayushreddevil9 - I'll tag you here as you both said the same thing.

I'm not saying that at all, I'm saying that Pep is happy to take his money but on questions like this what exactly is he supposed to say? Whether he needs the money or not is inconsequential. Pep is at City because it suits his legacy to be at City right now, 100%. He's not here for love of the club, he's here for Pep. he's working for people he doesn't agree with and yes when speaking to them he probably treats them better than he should but that is the way things are. Of course its hypocritical but just what do you think he should say?

Do you know how many people work for murderers? Work for racists, work for facists etc... There are tons and many don't need the money. Of course it hypocritical but we are all hypocritical when it suits us.
