Well it's been a big week of updates on the site and as I mentioned in my last blog post, there were more updates on the way. Today I'm happy to announce the latest - The RedCafe.net Podcast!

Yes a Podcast - the radio-esque, audio only, listen to on your iPod while on the way to work/cooking/cleaning/doing a bit of business/whatever, web thingy!

If you don't want to keep reading about how this all came about, you can jump straight into the first episode here. Details on how to subscribe via iTunes will be available soon.

So, while this addition to the site may seem to have come very much out of the blue, it is something I have long thought would be a great feature to have. Indeed, several other Cafites began a Podcast discussion amongst themselves a few months back. The logistical complexity and time required to create something from scratch ultimately meant that discussion never really led to anything concrete.

Then when I thought the idea was pretty much dead in the water, I was contacted by Steve, Dan and David who have been producing their excellent weekly Manchester United Podcast over on FootballFanCast.com. They were keen to move their Podcast forward and expressed an interest in a partnership with RedCafe.net that would bring the show to this site. It was a very exciting opportunity which I jumped at and so here we are!

The plan is to continue releasing a show a week, where Steve, Dan and David will discuss and debate the latest issues on all things United. Initially we're focused on getting the Podcast established and working smoothly, but we're hoping to develop it further and tie it closer to the community. So if you have any thoughts or ideas, we'd love to hear them.

I hope you enjoy this new addition to the site, please leave your comments in the forum topic this blog post has created. I'm sure Steve/Dan/David will chime in to say hello. A podcast is no easy thing to produce, particularly given the quality and regularity it is done with, so please give us your support with this new venture. As with everything on this site, it's ultimately for you, the fans, and you will determine whether it's a success.

    - Niall

P.S. One thing that is missing is a catchy jingle for the show - you know, something with a sexy voice over, lots of reverb and a good beat! :) It would feature at the beginning and end of the show, as well as break up the different sections of the Podcast. Not an easy thing to do well, so if anyone has the required expertise and is willing to help put something together, please let us know.

    Awesome stuff, Niall.

Hopefully this will lead to seeing some RedCafe members on the show. With three regular hosts it'll be a lot easier to keep the show going despite not necessarily having enough people on our end to agree on meeting time.

Do Steve, Dan, and David have any experience or knowledge of RedCafe culture in general or are they just three upstarts making a podcast?

I have heard their podcast before - its good. The Manc guy seems to know his stuff, The Scot is ok. Not sure about the Southerner though. ;)

I personally think that 3 existing members of the caf could do a better job though.

The RSS feed is here: RedCafe.net Podcast

I don't know RhythmBox, but if it has Podcast support it should allow you to put that URL in and that should be it.

If anyone wants to directly subscribe in iTunes, do as follows:

    1) Go to Advanced > Subscribe to Podcast

    2) Paste in RedCafe.net Podcast and press Ok.

    3) It should start downloading the latest episode and all future episodes as they are released.

It's essentially an already existing podcast that has rebranded itself and attached to a larger brand name (Redcafe > Footballfancast). But still worth a listen to.

Just listened to it; solid pod cast, well presented. I certainly think it adds something to the site.

Good idea, but I agree with Gaffs & Flawless - I went & made a butty 5 mins in. The Manc lad is fine, but the other 2...meh. It would be much better if the other 2 were replaced with random guests from the Cafe.

NB: Is it just me that takes exception to it being called Red Caf 'A'...it's Red Caff isn't it? A Caff sells sausage sarnies & fry ups & a Caf 'A' sells feckin cream cheese & grape panninis!

Are you actually deaf? Because, depending on the length of the thing, that shouldn't be too hard to do.

I called it Red Caf-A, because that's what the word is :nervous:

Are the three presenters members of RedCafe now? And, if so, do they intend to be fairly active? It'd be nice if they were.

Can't speak for anyone else, but it's the Red Caf'A' to me, cafe is pronounced caf 'A', ergo...

But I agree about the contents, it's not bad, and it's great to see the podcast expanding the RedCafe world, but it'd be nice to see (well, hear) at least 1 actual RedCafe member on each podcast. For a start I think it'd help keep the tone a bit more like the 'caf. But also, as people have said, otherwise it's just a Man Utd podcast with RedCafe stuck in the title.

Maybe it's just me, but I've never been in a Caf 'A', only a Cafff, or a Caf 'E' - Cafe 'A''s a bit prawn sarnie for me.

I like the 3 presenters great job. I'm sure it will get better and there will be some Cafe members. Great to hear a Manchester United podcast not a newspapers podcast were half the presenters are anti United.

    Personal though, ain't it?

I take your point about Cafe being a bit poncy, but Caff is just plain cockney for me - anyone in the North would say Caffy (Caffi), I'm sure.

As for our beloved site, I do say Cafe meself.

    NOW WHY CAN'T WE HAVE A T-SHIRT?

I'll take that as appealing, dyslexia is common in the aristocracy.

I suspect there's a copyright thing. I wouldn't be surprised if some sort of deal has been done (you can keep your website as it is, but don't expand into marketing), but for the record I for one would love to walk round OT in a RedCafe top. A handbag for the wife would be nice, too.

I've been wanting a redcafe podcast for quite sometime. Too bad that my podcast thread in the General never to fruition, because there are some great ideas there. But this one looks good too. I'll be adding this to my podcast list
