Lingard is a starter because we don't have a RW. Mata is a squad player...
We don't have chance to sign him anymore but he can easily fit in instead of Lingard. France set up is different from ManUtd.
If we play 4-3-1-2 then we surely have place for Griezmann.
Its not a long term tactic . Anyway my initial point is under mourinho it would've been a waste since we will have tried to shoehorn pogba in the midfield 2 and maybe less so now but still wouldn't be worth it because the false 9 tactics is not long term and the potential upgrade of griezmanm over lingard is minimal in comparison to what a RW will give us. He's not the same player without target man that holds the ball and we don't have one or intend to play with one.
France played an hybrid 433/442 not 4231. And Griezmann doesn't stick to the middle, while he would have been a bad fit for Mourinho's 433, on paper there is no issue with Ole's fluid front three.
This is something Ole said too, there is no fixed position. Attackers interchange the position always.
Also someone suggested that he wasn't an Atletico legend but if he avoids major injuries, he will be their top scorer in the next two years.
I dunno. Initially it would have been but oles split striker formation with a deeper player in the middle, would he not have been that player instead of mata or lingard?
I don't think griezmann is effective enough without a target man. Whilst there may not be an issue in fitting here as false 9 a right sided forward with pace would've been more beneficial to our system.
So salty . See @Jib 's post.
I'd have him 4th/5th maybe. Not a star imo. At least not enough for him to cement legend status with it.
It's like people didn't really watch how France play, what really impresses me with Griezmann in WC is how quick thinking he is, whenever he receives the ball he rarely lost it and can quickly turn it into attack.
Awful tonight again but this guy thinks he's on par with Messi and Ronaldo
Not even the best french player, Pogba and Mbappé are younger but better and won more than him
He's got shit hair. You're a grown man ffs sort it out. Instead he's out there running around with a toddlers haircut.
He's playing for a shithouse side in fairness. And he's won the World Cup. In a dick measuring contest, you can hardly throw the "they've won more." He's won the Big One, as have they.
He will never achieve much at club level call coached by Simeone
A shithouse side that won la Liga and were in the CL final few weeks before signing him.
And this sithhouse give him a 20 millions net contract...
Griezmann is just not that good and Giroud also won the world cup
In his defense, expectations are enormous when your team has zero attacking intent and you're working with scraps, while all that your striking partner is good for is making offensive fouls. It's to an extent his fault that he's still there, even though I admire the loyalty.
Only Messi, Ronaldo and Neymar earn more than him.
He stayed because they gave him a massive contract.
Should have left in summer of 17. Someone's methods weren't going to work forever, and Atletico won't reach another final of UCL or win the league with him.
Maybe time for a Nueva Decision.
If it's only about the money, then fair enough. In terms of his overall career and status it will cost him a lot. It all depends on priorities.
It's like saying DDG stays at United because he's loyal.
What, should footballers have Johnny Unitas haircuts. It's not the military, should be judged by his football. He was awful tonight.
I was taking the piss to be honest.
Really hard to ask more from him, under Simeone's system even Messi or Rolando will struggle. The attackers end up playing more as defensive midfielders with long transitions, they end up burned from chasing long balls and if they get to it they have almost no support. Simeone's tactics are based on the defensive side of the game, really hard job for the attackers.
He's clearly hindered offensively by the system they play. He's an incredible footballer that gets underrated too often, already a football legend at 27 and it's no accident.
Legend is a word thrown far too easily these days. Someone like Platini is a legend, Griezmann is nowhere near that level. As for the hindering part on which I agree BTW, he is there voluntarily, he's not serving a prison sentence.
Best player in Euro 2016, key player in France winning the World Cup, drove Atletico to the CL final in 2016 with great performances and decisive goals against incredible Barcelona and Bayern teams, best player in the Europa League last season with decisive goals in the final... he's a modern legend of the game, there should be no doubt about it. Not at Platini's level of course but in the 21st century there aren't many forwards I'd have ahead of him. He's just 27 too, plenty of time to increase his legacy.
He's the kind of player that would succeed anywhere next to anyone. Put whoever you want in this Atletico team and they'd have plenty of games where they're invisible, not easy to play such a big percentage of the game in his own half as a forward with minimal attacking support when in possession. He's a geniunely incredible footballer, gets too much hate because of his childish personality.
Today was bad though, even if things aren't working out from an offensive point of view, they failed to show the fight they usually do and Griezmann as one of the leaders of the team had to do more. Not enough nasty tackles or yelling at eachother by Atletico players tonight, Godin, Griezmann and Simeone should have been injecting the team with energy rather than looking lethargic too.
Not sure he is a legend... come on. Let's just agree he is a top player.
Last night he was poor though. He let that game pass him by, and it is not for the first time in a big game.
He questioned why he was not closer to winning Ballon D'Or. Last night showed why.
The fact that he doesn't score as much as the 2 monsters is the biggest reason. He's a great player, world class even. Still not up there yet and probably won't ever get there.
He needs to leave Atletico asap (one way street + dead-end) and sign for Man Utd.
He wants the sun and warmth to survive apparently.
It's likely more due to Simeone's system. Put him in an attacking team and he'll rack up the figures.
His main problem is he seems to have a very feeble mentality. Staying at Atletico was very noble from the perspective of their fans, but it was a lack of ruthlessness and ambition that other top players like Ronaldo or Neymar exhibit. You wonder if he is afraid to leave his comfort zone, he is used to Simeone and thus wants to stay as long as he is managing Atletico.
No one will say what a player he was in 7-8 years time.
He might but not the extent required to be on Messi and Ronaldo's level.
Hate his haircut. It's attrocious.
He's just a French Mat Le Tissier. He's a good player and all but he isn't going to go down as one of the all time greats. He'll be one of those barely mentioned a few years after he retires, with the exception of Atletico fans.
He scored in a World Cup final, I don't think he's gonna be forgotten.
