This guy has been great for Newcastle this season. He’s their captain and forms the backbone of the team. A brilliant defending CB in the true sense of the word who can get into the opponents box, rise above defences and smash in headers. Totally committed and plays with attitude and authority. At 24 yrs of age I would rate him as best young defender in the PL. Cannot believe he isn’t in the England squad. Future England captain imo. Anyone else rate him?

IIRC, he was highly rated as a teen at Nottingham Forest along with Liam Moore.

First time I checked him out, I also thought he was French (obviously because of his name) Nice surprise he's English!

I have it on good authority he'll be leaving this summer and most likely signing for Chelsea

He was great for Nottingham Forest in my FM 12 save and that's all i know about him but didn't really expect that high praise for him. Is he really that good?

Apparently wasn't that good for them in the Championship last season, and Newcastle fans expected to see him replaced when they got to the Prem. But he has taken his game up a level this season along with his leadership qualities. Definitely think he should stay there for a few season at least, not good enough for the step up to a big club just yet.

Should have taken him to the World Cup over Gary Cahill as he would have benefited more from the experience (he's probaly also a better player at this stage). Considering our obvious need this summer I'm suprised we didn't make an offer for him, this is they type of player Fergie always snapped up.

Every English centre back is hyped up to be the future England captain. Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, Eric Dier.
This guy is average and showed that in the Championship. Will be a decent Premier League player though for the lower table clubs.

Isn't it possible he's improved since he was in the championship?

He has indeed, improved from an average Championship player to an average Premier League player.
He's a decent player just not good enough to play for any of the top 6 clubs I think.

I think he'd definitely improvement Arsenal. And hesh probably young enough to get to a level he can play for Chelsea or United considering both have won titles with Cahill and Smalling as regulars.

Southgate complaied about Smalling's ability on the ball but, Lascelles makes Smalling look like Pique on the ball.

 one of my mates is friends with him. The Chelsea thing was early stages and given their manager issues and Newcastle not being willing to sell it never materialised. Pretty sure he'll be off sooner than later as he wanted to leave this summer.

He's just used his strength to deal with Rashford so far who has been too lightweight. He's a decent CB but another who is weak on the ball

Thought of the same and just afterwards he lead the ball forwards and passed over a player to a teammate of his. Its not like he cant pass.

He's been good tonight. Rashford has had nothing. To keep a clean sheet with Schär next to you would be tough even for Maldini

He’ll be lucky to even get a cap this season, let alone captain the side.

The player has gone backwards in his development and looks nowhere near the player he was last season.
