Evans is turning out be one hell of a complete center half.

    Best in the league currently?

One of the best. Let's stop with labeling everyone who's playing well as the best.

Immense again. I like the fact that he's so confident in his (and the team's) ability to defend that he feels safe to go on these forward runs.

You say that as if it's a few games, he's been fantastic all season.

But he has been fantastic all season.

Why can't he be labeled the best?

I say that as if I see that label on someone everyday on the caf. Why would I say he's one of the best if it were only a few games?

So great to see how he's come on this season. Last season there were times when I worried as to whether he'd get over his nervousness and make it at the club, but he's completely proved me wrong.

Stepped up in Vidic's absence to a level beyond what any of us could have hoped for.

I thought his passing was very sloppy in the first half, but that play for Nani's goal was brilliant by Evans.

Was an excellent prospect.. is in great form..
As good as you can expect a young defender to be... Love his forward runs.. He has added that to his game this season.. brilliant.

Because it's not necessarily a logical progression.

You can have an excellent season but not be "the best". Now if he replicates this sort of form next season then he can be regarded as amongst the best.

As it stands, he's a very talented young centre-half who's beginning to realise the potential that most saw in him when he first got into the team.

    And again I said "currently".

And apparently SAF has said the same today, so go tell him he is wrong too.

What a pass to Nani that was. Beautiful. Really has stepped up big time this season. One of the best if not the best defender in the league atm.

Initially I thought it was Berbatov that had made that pass...

Biggest compliment you can give him is that we're not missing Vidic.

Personally I always knew he was this good. He was very unfairly scapegoated at times last season, and particularly after the City game this season.

He's a class centre half, always had the ability, just needed to show it consistently. Has been superb this season, and as has been said, has stepped in for the best centre half in the country and hasn't looked out of place.

Another thing too, plenty thought Smalling and Jones were going to be our centreback pairing for years to come, they're going to have to play superbly well to dislodge Evans. I'd suggest when everyone is fit and well it's going to be very hard to leave Evans out.

Still got some mates who refuse to accept that Evans has become an excellent player, at least the media are finally giving him some praise. He's got so much to his game right now, I'm genuinely wondering what will happen when Vidic is back.

True it could be Rio and Vidic rotating, who saw that coming

Vidic is number 1 if he comes back anything like the player he was. I'd put Rio ahead of Evans due to the understanding he has with Vidic, but on form Evans probably deserves to play ahead of Rio. Its a tough one

Yeah I didn't suggest in my post that Evans would be first choice or anything, Vidic when fit is the number 1 by quite a way, Evans on current form gives Fergie a difficult decision to make. Smalling and Jones are now behind him in the pecking order, and at worst Evans is 3rd choice. Rio will be looking over his shoulder when everyone is fit.

I think realisticly Rio and Vidic will play whenever fit, but Rio has fitness issues and Vidic is heading into his 30's on the back of a serious injury, I wouldn't be shocked if Evans plays more matches than any of our defenders next season

From the Jones thread back in August. Wouldn't be surprised to have the exact opposite argument with these lads next season if Jones plays in the Olympics and needs a bit of time to shake of his jadedness. The lesson here, kids, is to not mix up ability, potential and form.

I love it when he steps up and joins our attack, and the way Carrick slips back to cover. Adds a great bit of variety to our play.

I also laughed when he suddenly was down on the right wing putting in a cross in the first half!
