I'd agree with you on this. Think Jose would never have gone for Salah though, more's the pity.

Salah is a player who thrives on pace. He uses his pace to pass through players, and moves brilliantly behind defenders to get to position. He's not that strong physically, not a great finisher and not very skilled in 1 vs 1 but he uses his pace brilliantly and thus even if he misses some chances his pace will guarantee other chances.

Perisic is similar in being pacey, also depends on his pace to pass through players, but he's stronger physically and have much better crosses in him, exactly what we're missing imo. During the summer I always wanted him and Imo he would have become a fan favorite if he had come here.

Regarding the price, I talked about it in a post above.

He wasn't available at a good price with inter constantly raising the fee. Anyway he's 29 and or that great. That we didn't sign him doesn't mean we're skint. It's completely nonsensical to suggest such a thing.

Cup games and getting subbed on. We'd only end up wasting a great talent due to needing a 29 year old goodish player who Rashford would be streets ahead of soon. Ali and Kane would probably still be trying to find their feet had they gotten the amount of playing time you want us to give Rashford. If we're serious about developing young talent we have to play them not have them backup to a striker who always plays. I don't think Rashford needs to start. We're a top club that has to play at a certain level. But he can't be marginalised like that and no manager (Jose included) in their right mind would do that.

It is a fact that the PL is stronger. Not even debatable. Your point was a daft one which needed glossing over. Does Darmian being rubbish in the PL mean the Serie A is crap as per you?

In this market, surely Lingard could fetch a few quid
Blind is expendable. He is and average CB, Average CM and the same at LB. Would rather a specialist FB and rotate what we have or blood in young players. Heck, we could sign a LB that also plays CB. Blind in midfield just isn't necessary

The only one rewriting anything is you. Jose had players he trusted ahead of the 23 year old, SAF had all his midfielders injured and still opted for fullbacks over Pogba ffs.

Not to add SAF has never been one to shy away from youth, regardless of age, as I've said. Anderson, Nani, Ronaldo, Class of 92, Rooney etc., the list goes on - all were very influential players when they were young for us. SAF not playing Pogba had nothing to do with him being ready or not, it was politics and was bad judgement. Even if we assume it was because SAF didn't think he was ready, not giving him a proper try was short-sighted in hindsight as he hit the ground running at Juve. Either way, it was handled poorly.

I'm not even defending any manager, get a fecking grip pal. Just because I thought SAF letting one of the best talents we've had in a long time go to Juventus for free and not playing him was the wrong decision, doesn't mean I'm defending Jose ffs. Only one who's even bringing in discussion of managers into this is you. Just because I don't agree with how SAF handled Pogba, doesn't mean I'm defending how Jose handled those players. Yes Jose had two talented players, but ahead of them he had players he trusted who won him the league, just as SAF did with Pogba. Both were probably stupid as feck in hindsight, but it is what it is.

In both scenarios, both managers either didn't think the player was ready, or didn't think they fit into their plans. You can harp on about age to suit your agenda all you like, but fact of the matter is age was never an issue for SAF. Suddenly he cares how old players are just to suit your argument. If he cared about age and whether or not players were ready, Ronaldo would have been fecked off long before he cut it here.

I agree with the point, but claiming those are the 3 best players in the EPL is a ridiculous way of trying to make such a point.

What's this nonsense? "Without one key target". Matic and Lukaku were clearly our key targets.

Iirc Pogba asker for some huge raise which which would result in us breaking our wage structure for young players, which that weasel of his agent used to lure him away to Juve.

Regarding Pique no amount of game time would change his mind of wanting to go back to Barcelona and play with the players he grew up with.

Luckhurst struggles with language and intention a lot of the time. Maybe, in his clumsy way, he was suggesting UTD failed to get one, specific, key, target, and not, as it would appear, any first choice player in the entire window? I don't know. Maybe I'm giving him too much credit?

He's not wrong. Maybe not 5-6, that is an exaggeration, but certainly Spurs and Chelsea. Before anyone points out his spending, it has to be admitted that our squad was in bad shape and we spent the bulk of the cash on just 2 players, Lukaku and Pogba, and still have a lot of positions to cover.

Chelsea changed manager just last season after they sacked yours truely. And who authorised this sort of spending? (putting all eggs in a few baskets).

Change of manager is easier to adjust to when both outgoing and incoming managers are not clueless idiots like Moyes and LvG.

    Is it really "excuses"?

He's just like Ferguson, he'll get a feeling for what the squad needs to hear and he'll say it.

They're playing with a tonne of pressure on them at the minute, they need to forget about the competition, relax and find their own game.

Playing for Man Utd its part and parcel. T'is why they all earn 100k plus and they are expected to challenge for top honours. If they cannot handle it, there are clubs like Everton, Arsenal (with Welbeck), Newcastle or Watford that have less pressure but also less money.

I agree on your point but the poster you quoted is right though. Mourinho has always been this kind of manager in his quotes, always underestimating his team's chances of winning the title to lift pressure of the team.

    Here's an example :

That’s nonsense, how much they earn and what you think a United player should be like is completely irrelevant.

The fact is that we’ve hit a bit of a flat period and a little doubt has crept in. They’re not a team full of seasoned league winners, it’s Mourinho’s job to get them to that point and sometimes a few carefully selected words can help along the way.

It's important to point out that they won the league that very season.

    Edit: the season after that.

Realised my mistake and corrected it.

They finished 3rd, with only 4 points separating the top 3. Chelsea challenged for the league that season.

What Mourinho said must be taken with a pinch of salt, we are going to challenge this season, coming up top is a different story.

They are playing for Man Utd not a side like everton. Man Utd will always be expected to challenge. Many of these guys were bought for huge money and yes you are paid money according to your value to your employer, which is the case in any profession. Big clubs don't just throw money for the sake of it. They pay big money that comes with an expectation. Its just reality. Virtually all of our players have won honours before. Pogba, Zlatan, De Gea, Matic, Blind, Jones, Young, Smalling, Mkhitaryan, Valencia, Mata are seasoned winners who have won multiple titles. The rest have at least won some cups. Its more excuses. When they signed up for Man Utd, I am sure there were aware of the size, history and expectations of the club, hence why they signed. I am sure they all said in their interview " I came here to win titles". Zlatan said it recently. That's the profile player we want more of. Not hiders.

Please note, I am not fussed if we actually win the league or not because it is gonna be tough. I just hope that we have some fight and try to challenge for it at least, compete with and out do some of our rivals. That's part of playing here.

Jose is so good at deflecting and taking off pressure from the team and the club that it makes him implode himself and as a result the whole thing falls down soon anyway?

    I hope not.

It seems like it was like that with his 2 old clubs sort of.

Master of mind game or just an angry cnut?

I think Mourinho really gets irked by all the questions about his defensive tactics, his failures to promote youth, lack of long term stability etc and responds to the questions from an emotional place, rather than a cold calculating manipulative manner. As a result, he comes out in the media as a defensive personality who is unwilling to admit his mistakes.

However, what I really like about him is that he doesn't let all of this negativity impact his footballing ideas and philosophies. He does what he feels is the best for the club, and based on his historic performance, who is to argue with his philosophy. Mourinho the manager might really be a likeable person and some of the players who have worked under him have strong emotional ties with him.

The flip side to this is that all of these comments and stories in the media create a sense of negativity around the club, which fester over time, and lead to an all-out implosion. Even at united, we can see fans are starting to buy into all the negativity and some have even turned against him. The fans really need to be patient with him and objectively assess his performance as a coach and the manager.

Chelsea have been in a position to compete for the title for a stable period of time, regardless of manager they’ve had a strong core of Matic, Hazard, Luiz, Fabregas for quite a few years.

Feels as if we’ve only just built ours since last season with Bailly, Pogba, Matic, Lukaku.

Why is Jose still living in a hotel if he's staying at United long term? By himself, as the rest of his family won't even join him. He's living like a management consultant, surely this is not long term.
