Him or Skriniar is exactly what we need. Either of them would cost £100m+ :(

Why can't our scouts find another Vidic?

I haven't seen him play much - is he the commanding leader we need?

Would be a great buy. If we can sign someone of his ilk in January to partner Smalling, it might have a similar effect on our season as VvD signing did for Liverpool.

16 goals conceded is just criminal by any standards. We are a sieve at the back.

He might be the best central defender in the world. Pay whatever it takes.

When is Duncan Castles ever right about things? He called Pogba returning about 3 seasons but since then hasn't got a thing correct. He was harping on about Alex Sandro already agreeing personal terms this summer.

We could, but the current fanbase would want him binned after 2 weeks if he doesn't perform.

One of the best defender in the world. His partnership with Smalling would be rock solid imo.

Throw whatever it takes to get him.

So fecking what? We're the most valuable club in world football, time we acted like it.

I don't understand this mentality from fans, we either invest our money or let the Glazers leech it. I know which I'd prefer.

fecking Liverpool spent £75m on a CB. We have hardly spent more than what Rio cost on a single CB since we bought him from Leeds ffs.

It's not the fans mentality. It's Ed's mentality. He said he's willing to spend 100m on someone like Varane, so it depends if the player is marketable enough for him to splash the cash or not.

Or if United feel they are a top player and not Harry fecking Maguire

What is so marketable about Varane he was named likely because he was just the best CB at the world cup

I reckon we would pay the money for Koudibali to be honest. Im just not convinced Napoli would sell in Jan

We also laughed at Liverpool splashing 75m on a Southampton defender but look how that pans out for them.

Anyway the ship has sailed. We'll need to spend +100m on a defender whether we like it or not.

We definitely need to - we haven't properly invested in our defence like we have in midfield etc.

All of the defenders we've bought have been £30mil and under. If we want quality then we will need to pay the going rates so at least £45mil plus. We can't afford to penny pinch going forward.

One of the best CBs in europe imo.

Would be a great pick up for any premier league team.

    My dream signing. Fantastic defender.

We need experience. Someone who has played at the highest level.

We have potential in Lindelof and Bailly. Whether they're good enough or not remains to be seen, but for now, we need someone who can come in and make a sudden impact like Van Dijk for Liverpool.

Koulibaly would most likely be that player.

He's great, I'd love it if we did eventually get him. I'm still unsure as to how much we'd have to pay/would we pay for him. Technically very sound for a CB too.

Next Vidic? Thought everyone wanted a ball playing CB. Make up your minds.

From what I have seen from some so called ball playing CBs these days. Vidic would be good enough

He's fantastic but I think a signing of this magnitude should be left to the next manager and hopefully the DOF.

My #1 choice cb. He’s colossal. Can safely say I won’t get my hopes up though, it seems almost impossible to get this done in January.

Wont be signing anyone unless MBS is the new owner come January, then Mourinho will be given a blank cheque!

Very solid (left) CB, defensively sound, quick, decent on the ball and is good in the air (although he's closer to 1.87m not 1.95m that Google has up).

However, he just signed a new contract and Napoli are notorious for asking for ridiculous fees for their players. He won't be sold for less than £75m in the winter imo and I just can't see Woodward signing off on this deal given our troubles signing a CB last summer.

I'd probably want Skriniar over him due to his age, but this would be an immense signing if we could pull it off. Not sure any defender is worth 100m though.

Think he has recently signed a new contract, not to mention the player seems happy to stay where he is. IIRC, there were some clubs who tried to sign him in the past, but failed.

Another target that seems to be nearly impossible.

Napoli I read claimed they turned down a 90 million pound/euro (not sure currency) bid for him in the summer.

So I’ve only seen him play a few times and I’ve never really been blown away so anyone watch him regularly? Comparison level compared to say VVDJK?
