Who knows. Think so long as it includes Madrid, Barca, Bayern, Juve, Milan, Inter and the big 5 of england, it will work however they decide to go about it. Those teams account for like 80-90% of total fans of european football, probably

Couldn't he just buy himself out of contract and leave or is there there an age restriction on that or some other clause? Transfers/contracts these days are ridiculous. I miss when people would bid and be told not selling unless £x offered and they would haggle for a bit. Now it's all underhand and dodgy. Think the world saw Barcelona do it time and again and get away with it so now everyone's finding loopholes. Seeing them have Neymar screw them so he could drop down several levels league-wise completely for money after they signed him fraudulently was hilarious. Moving to PSG gives you a handful of meaningful European Cup games a season- no way are people going there for the 'challenge'. A depleted Monaco. Oh what a challenge. Have to win a World Cup and European Cup to even be considered for the Balon D'Or and even then it's La Liga biased. Hard enough for an EPL player to be on the list when only Barca or Real Madrid players are really in the running. I know it was called FIFA player of the year before and now FIFA Best Men's player but only Kaka at Milan and Ronaldo at us since 2001 who were not from Barca or Real. 8 teams from non- La Liga sides have won the European Cup since 2001. Yes I'm aware Ronaldo and Messi have been brilliant but they aren't the only ones. Cannavaro won in 2006 with Real Madrid. Had he suddenly improved as a player? Of course not but he was at Madrid and Italy won the World Cup. It would be good if it was judged on how good a player was and not politics. Roy Keane, Scholes, Cantona etc wouldn't be even thought of. Anyway, just my opinion. Just think these players should be slightly honest and say "I'm going to PSG to try and make them European champions....and also I'm earning 7 times as much as I'd get at a club that's not just built on Oil money".

Who would take care of rules, regulations, referees, format, picking up sponsors etc.? It has to someone outside the sphere of the influence of those teams involved. There's a lot that goes into a CL campaign, not just the teams that play.

Does UEFA organize International Champions Cup?

I'd stop watching United if we agreed to such shite.

The Champions League semi-finals and finals are special because we get to see teams go up against each other that could go years without facing each other normally.

It'd be awful having a big game every week.

Big teams go years without facing each other in CL too. Barca and Madrid haven't faced each other in 6 years in Europe. Barca and United also in 6 years.

Barca and Madrid have faced each other, what, 2 times in 70 years of European Cup/CL?

They would break off from UEFA

The only defence against it is FIFA banning the players from international competition

It would open up a massive can of worms. No, most likely, ECA will pressure UEFA into assuming a harder line re:FFP

That's not possible. Only solution would be for the top clubs to boycott the CL. Then it would mean nothing. But it's hard to pull off.

The only reason why the sheiks are ruining the market is because of the CL. They don't give a shit about Ligue 1. That's rubbish talk. If someone would tell them they won't get to play in the CL, they'd get their gas or oil money and move back to Qatar.

Of course it's possible. Clubs would break away from FIFA

But this would lead to chaos. FIFA and UEFA, as corrupt as they are, make professional football possible.

Which clubs? And how would they get new players because the current feeder clubs wouldn't be in a super league?

As i said, the 11 biggest clubs in the world aside from PSG. And they would get the players by paying for them, obviously. Tv money alone would put those clubs revenue in the billions, very quickly

First, you won't make a continental league with 11 teams, secondly if you don't take all the big teams from all the leagues you will quickly lose the battle against national leagues. If you decide to have a closed league, you need to even things out with a draft which will never happen because other leagues have their own business to run.

Obviously they wouldn't make an 11 team league. They'd look to invite other teams and probably aim for a 30-40 teams league

What i'm saying is, money follows those 11 clubs, not their domestic leagues

Eh, you're kind of making my point for me?

That's the whole point. They're special occasions that lose their magic if they occur every few weeks in a European Super League.

Then you have an other problem, you can't go to 30-40 teams because the market sizes aren't even. Basically, you ask teams to join a league where they will have absolutely zero chance to win anything,, where they will basically act as sparing partners. unless if you create a draft and trade system.

That's really it. I feel the cups like the CL are so special because the big teams from different countries don't play each other too regularly. This feeling would somewhat go away pretty fast if we played all the big teams twice per season or more if there would also be a cup involved in this league.

I think they would need to invite clubs like Ajax, Dinamo Zagreb, Celtic, etc to be cannon fodder. Historic clubs in major cities who have decent size stadiums. If not some elite clubs would be at the bottom of the table.

You create a league system based on the american model. Equal shares, etc. Basically, you offer those 20-30 teams a massive, massive financial return, coupled with the realistic(albeit difficult) possibility of winning the league, expanding their reach, increasing the fanbase and strenghtening the brand. etc.

the super league is, as it stands, viable enough to be an effective negotiating weapon for the ECA against UEFA/FIFA

If UEFA allow PSG to bullshit their way out of serious repercussions, ECA will make their move, and it will have seismic effects on the sport on the global stage.

Of course, if PSG simply generate enough money to afford what they're doing, that's another matter. ECA will be pissed, but ultimately all they'll do will be a revision of FFP to make it harder for PSG to dominate the market in such a way

It's funny because you are basically putting money over everything in an attempt to avoid PSG's money. I kind of find it cringeworthy.

There's an article on Forbes about how PSG generate over 50% of their revenue. It's listed under 'other forms of income'. And that's the chapter where you'll find artificially inflated commercial deals between PSG and Qatar. Like a 800m. euros deal for 4 years according to which PSG will 'promote' Qatar. Who believes this stuff anyway?

Does this count as legit revenue? If it does, then FFP could as well be eliminated altogether.

It is cringeworthy, but do you think those big clubs will just allow PSG to blow them out of the water without a fight? 'sides, they might even be in the right..

Punished as in what? A fine? The punishment must be severe enough to not make it worth the risk of breaking the rules. Everything related to money doesn't affect them.

If I'm not mistaken, UEFA counts only 50% of that money as revenue when calculating FFP.

I'll post a link later if I manage to find it again.

This is only speculation but one key financial point that could explain PSG being able to afford Mbappé this summer is that the only tax in Monaco is a 30% one on benefits. Monaco being massively beneficiary this summer could welcome a payment for Mbappé next summer to avoid it being amputated by 30%.

I hear what you're saying, but it's unfounded. One is a a great footballer, the other is a potential great player, a maybe. One injury like Shaw suffered and that's quite a blow.

I suppose you can say that about any player really. But 400 million on 2 players, is not something we would ever do. Regardless of debt.

I really wanted Real Madrid to sign Mbappe this summer but if they really want 200me and Mbappe's camp want us to match PSG's 12me salary then I will be happy to pass on him. Goodluck to PSG if they want to pay that for an 18 year old. I hope we don't.

It seems the agreement between Mbappe and PSG is complete, and it's more an issue of Monaco not wanting to sell to a direct rival. But Madrid's refusal to pay the wages that Mbappe's dad wants means they're no longer in the bidding. This will probably go down to the wire. PSG better have a working fax machine.

Translation: Mbappe demanded 200K a week salary from Madrid, to which they replied "Congratulations and good luck in Paris".

Not sure how true this is, but if it is, its' sad he is making these demands after one good half season at his age. Though I don't hate PSG, this is perhaps going a bit too far -- they might as well buy the CL trophy and be done with it.

The inevitable, desperate attempt to save face by Real Madrid. It's already been widely reported that the player chose PSG because he wanted to stay close to his family and wanted assurances of regular game time.

Actually, the translation is the player asked for €12M a year after tax from madrid. That's £400/450k a week, not £200k

BTW, that's what they're reporting in spain. L'equipe reported the wages on offer by PSG are €18M a year after tax
