He'll surely do that this season. He just scored 5 goals in his last game didn't he? It is just the French league though. Not sure about top 5 forwards. I'd take Messi, Ronaldo, Neymar and Hazard as the best 4. I suppose Mbappe is better than the others given noone is really elite. Maybe Bale but he's always injured.

You had to think about Rooney!

He was an absolute phenomenon. The l Aguero and Ronaldo (C) don't compare. Rooney had it all.

To be frank, only idiots call it a farmer's league.

Also, it's a shame that they do sell their best players, but it has a benefit too. In France, there is an absolute need to develop young players, and it benefits greatly the overall talent pool in France and the national team. In a league like the premier league that's loaded, there is far less of an emphasis on youth development and it's very hard for young English players to break through to the better teams.

I feel it's only a matter of time before another group invests heavily into another Ligue 1 team and creates a bit more competition for PSG, but right now the league is a great place for talent development and with that comes quick sales and a difficulty to hold on to said talents for long.

As far as the criticism of a 19 year old kid deciding to play for his hometown and try to win their first major European trophy instead of going off to Madrid (who did match Monaco's demands for a transfer) or Barcelona right away, I think that's just lazy. Mbappe would walk and shine in any team in the world, and would have just as much if not more of an impact. He's becoming a bit more selfish, whereas last season he was catering far too much to Cavani and Neymar. The one person I do feel bad for is Cavani, who is not getting much of the ball at all so far this season where Mbappe and Neymar are developing a really solid understanding but kind of forgetting about their frontman.

People were saying that after his first season at Monaco when he was still 18. He's already shown massive improvements in his passing, dribbling, influence on the game, etc. This is a guy that is literally getting better every month, and yet I don't think he's anywhere close to his ceiling. His decision-making is great for his age, but it's nowhere near what it can be. He creates so much danger and mismatches with defenders, and draws far more attention but still misses at times easy openings for his teammates. He's still missing some easy chances, like the game where he scored 4 goals and missed three easy chances. He is absolutely terrible in the air, and has to build up his body a bit more to deal with the physical pressure defenses try to put on him.

The good thing about him is that he is madly driven, similar to CR7 in that regard, and I can't see him losing focus or not improving to all-time great heights as long as the injury gods are kind with him.

Come on man, Mbappe is beast. Kid has everything. Strong, quick, technique, finishing. Ok, maybe i am too subjective but since Ronaldo( true Ronaldo) i didn't enjoy watching some player like Mbappe.

France could really use him this game, getting beat by Iceland and lucky to only be down one goal...Hope to see him in the second half.

Came on and completely changed the match vs Iceland. Don't be fooled, this boy isn't a great talent, he's a great player. I've been saying for a long time that he's already a top 5 players in the world. The only reason it isn't as blatantly obvious that he's already a balloon for caliber player is that hes being played out of position for whatever reason.

What I really dislike is everything he does well, the media will use it as a weapon against Neymar. Just now, his time magazine cover and some media use that as a further reason he is eclipsing Neymar which is nonsense. I’m not sure why the media is so hell bent on turning them into rivals or ennemies, or use everything he does to try and bury Neymar who has really improved his attitude since the World Cup and has been nothing but supportive towards Mbappe.

Yeah, it's really too bad for the media because Neymar and Mbappé have a great relationship. Neymar even said last week that he does everything he can to help him. But it's so much easier to say that Neymar is a diva and that he's freaking out because after being in the shadow of Messi, he's now in the shadow of Mbappé. It's obvious they genuinely like each other.

I gotta be honest I didn’t think Mbappe would have been able to sustain this level of consistency. The guy has eclipsed all my expectations and early thoughts on him.

Neymar is one of the best players in the world, but for some reason, it has become cool to hate on him. The dude is a beast.

You're not per chance Ferbando from the United community forum are you? :D

I've been heavily endorsing Mbappe as the second coming of Jesus for over 4 years now and that we absolutely have to, must, and can't afford not to get this kid. Don't care what it takes, what it costs or what we have to do.

I really need to get myself a United scouting job lol.

I don't think he's interested in the Premier league, City tried to move on him with a bid of 40m before he even truly broke out at Monaco and it didn't happen. I think he plays a couple more seasons in Paris and moves to Madrid at 21. I'm pretty sure his parents and the PSG hierarchy have an understanding in place. It will cost Madrid a lot, but I feel they will pay whatever they can to get him and he'll shine there as the main man by then.

I doubt you can work on football intelligence and decision making to a very large extent. This guy just instinctively is world class. Always thought the same since I first saw him.

Just because a player isn't as good as Neymar, doesn't make that player, less than good, ordinary, average or just "good".
Neymar is arguably one of the best in the World, right now. Some would argue that Mbappe too, is one of the best in the World, though as you quite rightly say, isn't yet as good as Neymar.

Regarding the point about improvement: Mbappe does seem to be getting better with age, so I think most would agree that there is more to come.

For me, he reminds me most of (fat) Ronaldo and he could quite possibly have a career which is similar to his, which would be very very impressive.

There is a propaganda in France for him to win the Ballon d'Or lol
I personally think it will be Modric but I would love it if he is to be the surprise winner.

I don't think he isn't interested in the PL and City (Guardiola) were never gonna give him the same playing opportunities (basically starting from the go and being guaranteed playing time) as well as being basically the face of the club at such a young age.
PSG were the perfect club for him and Paris is his home

I don't think he's on R9's level. There are very few players in the history of the game who are/were as good as he was before injuries.

However if he can avoid those injuries, he can certainly be a similar player to him. Pacey players are often a cause for concern because their reliance on sprinting leads to muscle problems. Not with everyone though. I certainly hope he remains fit and healthy because once Messi and Ronaldo are gone, we're going to be looking for someone else to take our breath away.

If we’re talking solely technical ability I don’t agree with the R9 comparisons, the part of his game that is most simila though is his athletic capacity.

I really hope so. The guy is a brilliant player and he had a great season. Mbappé has to be 2nd IMO.

The recent off the field issues will make it hard for Ronaldo I think. It has to be Modric.
I really hope it's not Griezmann, I barely bear him as is.

If Mbappe has an exceptional game over the next month, especially in the CL, he might win the Ballon d'Or. Might be unjust but could happen.

I hope not, I mean he’s as driven as any being can be but if you win a World Cup and Ballon d’Or at 19, you’re not going to do better than that for the rest of your careers when it’s barely just started.

Perhaps the penny pinching is saving for Mbappe or Neymar.

I'd spunk it all on Mbappe.

Although I have no doubt he'll stil be driven I see where you're coming from. I think he's smart, he would set new goals for himself for surely (be a multiple Ballon d'Or winner for instance)

Perhaps because Neymar supposedly left Barcelona because he’s a massive diva who couldn’t stand being in Messi’s shadow?

Neymar's only "in Mbappe's shadow" because people dislike Neymar and love Kylian. If Mbappe would be doing the things Neymar does he would probably already be regarded as the all time GOAT.

It is actually quite funny how a player that is that incredibly good at such a young age can still be overhyped.

Neymar is a better player than Mbappe, but the difference isn't massive despite their age difference. The incredible thing about Mbappe, and what puts his status into perspective is that, at 19 years old, Neymar, CR7 or Messi were not seen as anywhere close to being the best in the world. Messi had a lot of hype after his hat trick against Madrid, but no one was comparing him to Ronaldinho or Thierry Henry, or the other top players in the world (although we all felt there was a very good chance he would soon be in the conversation if he managed his muscle injuries to stop).
Mbappe, at the same age and competing with two legends who achieved far more than what Messi and CR7 dealt with at that age, is part of the FIFApro best XI, he is considered already one of the best players in the world, he is on the shortlist for a Ballon d'Or (one he doesn't deserve IMO, but the nomination is correct). Now, it doesn't mean in the least that he will turn out to be the next Messi/CR7 (players capable of reaching incredible stats/trophy hauls over many years), but as of right now the hype is more than justified. He is an anomaly, and people like that who are already so consistent at such a young age will generate hype that can make it hard to put into context but right now, I think it's absolutely justified because of what he has done and what he's continuing to do on a consistent basis. Just the fact that no one ever mentions his ridiculous transfer fee after 6 months of professional football except to claim it might have been a bargain says it all, really.
