    Just reading that story in isolation, it seems like the system failed -ie lack of training, understaffing etc- more than anything. Can't pretend to know the details and a horrible loss of life. Must admit that passed me by.

    I’m in the US and we heard about this wreck within hours, and a lot of the testing done on us now is a direct result of it. I am a locomotive engineer like the main guy in the article, but I have a conductor with me at work always. In my opinion, having a one man crew was the biggest factor.
