Definitely true though Archie.. look at Martial headlines v Sane.
It's true though and not even a debate.
3rd start of the season and he cost £40m. Clearly he's one for the future but at that price tag, is he escaping criticism? Cost nearly double as much as Depay.
Yeah, there was a meltdown on here when City were first linked with him, how he was basically the right version of Martial etc.
He isnt close to Martial's level.
Can't criticise a player who doesn't play. However Pep isn't getting the criticism of not playing him like Jose has with Mki.
Didn't stop people from labeling Mkhitaryan as flop of the season because he hasn't played...
Looks pretty good thus far.
Sané isn't Mkhitaryan, the latter is a lot more developed and experienced than the former.
Yes you can. Memphis was getting plenty of criticism and still does, even playing very limited minutes.
If we were top of the league Jose wouldn't be getting any stick either
Isn't that obvious?
Would have to agree. Looks average enough so far.
Expected him to be blistering, but he looks a little sluggish on the first couple of yards, at least compared to Moses, who by all means is quick. Don't see what all the fuss is about. He may well go down the path of Depay.
To be honest, he's 20/21 in a brand new league. Clearly he should be afforded time. Just the double standards have an effect on our players, I feel.
If Memphis was afforded more patience, maybe he'd flourish. Maybe not, of course.
Picked it up in the second half, even though Chelsea won.
Eh. stop with this common sense stuff.
He's a flop.. Dud. Waste.
Should have stayed one more season with Schalke to develop further, but I guess he wanted to work with Pep asap.
Did quite well today in a position I doubt he's ever played before. Started a bit nervously but one of those runs that Silva found was electric.
Clearly Pep wasn't very sane when he splashed 40m on him.
To be fair, Schalke is not a good place for young players. The whole club is just total chaos. Maybe that changes now with Weinzierl and Heidel, but that's not a bet anyone should take.
Looks like a different player now, best player on the pitch tonight by a mile. Jesus will get all the attention in the papers tomorrow but this lad looks like he could become the real deal if he keeps knuckling down.
Been brilliant for us since he's got a run in the team. I still think playing 2 out and out wide men solves alot of our problems and shoe horning Silva or KDB to the wing really hurts us. Our early season form was with Sterling and Nolito wide and we were trampling teams, we've been much better again since we started playing Sane and Sterling out wide. Shoving KDB, Silva, Gundogan and Fern on at the same time meant we had to drop some genuine pace and really hurt us imo.
Reason for that is simple. You get no attacking width from your FBs so you need from your forwards
Slowly showing the true potential. Think him and Jesus are a dead cert in that City team in the future.
Sane and Gabriel are turning their season around. Maybe we should try with Martial and Rashford who are the same age as Sane and Gabriel rspectively?
He looks very good but definitely needs to be more clinical. At least twice yesterday he wasted opportunities by passing when he should have shot. His pace and ability to beat defenders are very good though.
Because thats how it works.
Martial has been regarded as a better talent than Sane and Rashford is supposed to be a top talent too. It's too early to draw firm conclusions but what Sane and Gabriel show is that maybe, just maybe, Martial and Rashford are not too young to have a big impact on our season. Actually, we know it from last season when both were brilliant but their development has stalled this season.
didn't one of those chances lead to a goal though? I can only think of when he squared to Silva and the other time when he passed to Silva when both on the left and could possibly had shot earlier.
I think Guardiola hates players shooting for shootings sake, he wants players to do what Sterling, Sane and Jesus did when setting up the first 3 goals, Aguero and 'Nacho would have gone for goal in all 3 situations but each player looked for someone to pass to who was in a better position which resulted in the goals.
I know you were going for the pun, but maybe that Pep guys knows more about football than you.
The thing is players' ability is different. Even a better player in a same postition can't do as well as lesser player in certain system. For example, Di Maria had one hell of season as false 10 where his workrate was balance out Alonso & Modric whom i. Di Maria couldn't keep that up since in another team. They don't have a system with both Alonso & Modric. Adding to that, Di Maria was asked to be more productive (goal, which is the flaw of his game) since the other teams don't have Ronaldo and Bale to score loads of them.
Making a team is different than having all the excellent individuals. If you're to compare Martial to the 2 players of City, then Martial for all his gift has worse off ball movement than those. Rashford is not wiz dribbler compare to those 3.
By that logic, we shouldn't even have a forum cause every player can play better than us and every manager knows more.
Think your original comment was the bizarre one.
You made a snap judgement on a lad who came to a new League in a new country, got injured and took a month or two to get up to speed.
He's now looking worth every cent of his fee and rather than doing the decent thing and admitting that you may have been hasty/wrong about the player when challenged about your smirky statement you come up with the "that's why we have a forum" defence.
Would you have been so quick to put the boot into Martial had he made a slow start at United?
Because that's how it can work. We've got brilliant talents at the club but we're not getting enough out of them. Last season, for example, martial and rashford lit up our season. If Mourinho got them to do the same this season we'd get 4th easily.
Yeah, Depay was a big money signing and he was crap.
And if you makes you feel better about my original comment... "Van Gaal was wrong Depay the money"
Did you decide that Depay was crap and take to this forum to tell the United Universe of your findings within his first 10 games or are United players on a longer leash?
Which forum was it?
It wasn't this one.
Memphis played his tenth PL game for United before you became a member here.
Saw loads of comments in the thread comparing Sane with Depay, there price tag and that he is dead cert to go down the same route.
The only similarity between Depay and Sane is/was that they both are young, quick and good dribblers.
Sane is very silky on the ball and a industrious and untiring off it, unlike Depay. I never had doubts about his ability in moving the ball, my only concerns with him was whether he could finish it. So far after the Chelsea game, I'm very much impressed with his finishing as well. I think him, Raheem and De Brunye are the key creators in this team, made it all more fun to watch City play now, would hope this continues the same way.
