Benitez is the ultimate contrarian, he might just well fancy being the fly in the title-winning ointment, although I wouldn’t hold my breath.

They do it very well when they choose to.

But Barcelona were a different animal. Their pressing combined with their retention of the ball was the most dominant combination I've seen in my time watching the sport. The way they were suffocate attacks within seconds made good players look poor.

Nope, no rivalry. Most Spurs fans I know who attend matches couldn't really care about Liverpool at all.

What I've noticed is that online, there seems to be a lot more angst between the fans, most of it coming from Spurs fans, I imagine partly because for 10 seasons we pretty much always finished above the and won the same (ie feck all) and every season, their media machine would kick into action and they'd be talked up as title winners.

I imagine squishy's opinion is probably for the same reason that most other 'neutral fans' have this opinion on this race. Liverpool fans are everywhere and are genuinely intolerable even when they've not been winning anything, I can only imagine what it will be like if they actuallu finally win it again. The same for the media, which I'm sure will be intolerable. Plus, I've genuinely never met a City fan in person and probably the same for a lot of fans in the South so frankly who cares if they win it?

However, I doubt there are any Spurs fans who care enough to give up top 4 for it and besides, there's a very good chance Man City will be beating us twice in a row this week anyway so it's all a bit moot.

if liverpool win the league it would be glorious. SAF watching all his work get undone, whilst he sits helplessly in the stands.

    That would be absolute bliss.

This is the type of sh*t that can make United fans hate Liverpool fans. What does Liverpool winning the league this season have anything to do with SAF? You think Shankly and Paisley's legacy is undone because of SAF?

I think Klopp's Dortmund would've beaten this Liverpool team. They were more aggressive and better at pressing than this current Liverpool team, better to the point that they didn't have to abandon that strategy to overcome their defensive frailties.

I'd hate Liverpool to win it - mainly because of several mates who will be insufferable but also due to the media who have been begging for a Liverpool title win for decades now and talking about them as title contenders despite their league placements not reflecting what you would expect for all the adulation.

Naturally, you are a big fan of all things coming from Germany but football has moved and Klopp's Dortmund would struggle to make the top 4 in England, let alone win the damn thing with an incredible 95-point tally. This isn't the Bundesliga mate. Teams have come some way in learning how to cope with pressing. There is a reason why Klopp has changed their style this season, it is because it didn't work sufficiently well in the first place. It's not like Liverpool play differently in comparison to Dortmund because they lack world beaters like, erm, Mkhi, Kagawa and the likes.

Thought Klopp did well to bring Milner on and stick him at LB yesterday. Willian was getting all kinds of space with Robertson naively pushing forward too much after the second goal.

I think we’ll win the remaining four games now but I think City will probably win theirs as well.

The Dortmund team I'm referring to didn't even win the Bundesliga. It's the team with Gotze, Reus, Lewandowski, Gundogan, Hummels (real lack of world beaters there) which beat La Liga champions Real 4-1 at home in route to the UCL final, where they were eventually beaten by one of the best teams seen since Pep's Barca. I'm talking about Dortmund v Liverpool in a one-on-one match, not over the course of the season why many things would come into play. I still maintain that Dortmund would be able to beat this Liverpool team.

If you want to talk about Dortmund in the EPL this season, City are an amazing team certainly and only they would be better than them.

Klopp's Dortmund wouldn't have won the PL probably, but their squad wasn't any worse than current Pool. Hummels was a WC defender back then like VVD, they had prime Gündogan who was one of the best in the world before his injury, Götze was Germany's biggest talent for decades, Lewa and Kagawa in peak form. They also had Bender/Subotic/Kuba/Piszczek/Perisic (the one your previous manager wanted to pay 50m for). You are mistaking the team that got picked apart by bigger clubs (but probably would still make top 4) with the one that won the league beating us who should have won the CL that year.

It also has always been a myth that the way Pool was playing last year (great scoring but leaky defense) was the default Klopp way in Dortmund. Although they were also very good at counter attacking, they were very solid at the back (best in the league by far). Pool just lacked a true great center back before VVD, that's it. They are currently pretty much a carbon copy of the great Dortmund teams (2010-2012) the way they are playing.

Klopp is a real good coach, did great job with Liverpool so far, implementing his ideas very well and has a real good sight and future plan too. Hope Ole do the same with us really. So if Liverpool wins it the deserve it but have that strange feeling that they will drop points to Cardiff or Newcastle, they already benefited tremendously well from refs so far so I feel it will hunt them back somewhere.

Don't think so. They look very ordinary side against Spurs too. Liverpool, City are easily better than Dortmund this season. You can argue Spurs too going by their head to head games.

In talking about Klopps Dortmund from 12-13, and maybe before that as well, not this season. Although this seasons team w really unlucky with injuries even they faced Tottenham.

"6 times la " and " 19 times la " looking a real possibility now, please somebody wake me up.

On a side note the storytelling for why most of us dont want them to win it is something along the lines of the media wank fest and mostly annoying pool online fans, for me its simple really no skysport BT & BBC for a while as well as sport forums Facebook Twitter and even Instagram, no footy on youtube as well, it will just help me go outside a little bit more a guess and enjoy my summer.

Well, hasanejaz88 thinks that they are not, maybe you should have a word with him then.

Football evolves, teams learn new tactics and how to cope with changes in the game. Dortmund of 12-13 wouldn't be the same force now if they played the same way against top teams from 2019.

Above all he is a professional football manager. He will send his team out as best he can to secure a result.

I always think back to 1995 on the final day when Liverpool beat Blackburn knowing it could well hand us the title. Obviously it didn't because we couldn't beat West Ham, but I find this idea that football managers and players deliberately throwing games all a bit odd.

Wonder for how long did he keep that in himself and how much of a struggle it was for him not to write it. I hope he's satisfied with himself now.

    There's no rivalry, not really.

I just have a personal dislike of the club due to the media hype/a large portion of their online fanbase.

It's not to the extent where I'd sacrifice top 4 to stop them winning the league, but say we were clear of the top four going in to the City game I would probably have been absolutely cool with losing the league game to stop Liverpool.

I think they're just a club (even to most neutrals) who are very hard to want to do well in anything.

Times have changed since 1995. It's a different world now. Pundits and social media have had a big influence on how players and the fans think. If that same scenario happened now, there is no way Liverpool would try their best to beat Blackburn.

If Liverpool get 96 points and still come second they might as well just face the fact they’re never winning the league again and fold.

This is so true. He won't tell his players to lose, but will set up in a more attacking way to give Liverpool a better chance of wining.
I can see Ole doing the same against City to be honest.

Yes its in Citys hands, but at this stage of the season points on the board are better than games in hand I think.

We learned that ourselves the hard way in 91/92. Different time I know but still....

I see Liverpool winning it from here, unfortunately.

They were beaten convincingly at home to both PSG and Barcelona, who are far more comparable to City than most of the dross that comes to Old Trafford domestically. Spurs also trashed United in August so I don’t know where you’re getting that stat from.

People are underestimating how big the gap between City and United is.

Totally agree. Would probably put my money on Liverpool at this stage. Their remaining games are Cardiff (A), Hudderfield (H), Newcastle (A) and Wolves (H). All very winnable considering at least Huddersfield and Newcastle won't have a lot to play for. City only have a 1 point advantage, so even a single draw would give Liverpool the edge - and they have to face us and Spurs.

    Not looking good.

Yeah, no-one calls the League and LC “the double”. I doubt most people who aren’t Chelsea or Liverpool fans even remember who won the League Cup in 2005.
