Hard to believe this still happens in 2017 tbh, but to be honest as someone that's visited Russia twice with work and worked with quite a few of them, their beliefs and culture are something akin to how England was in the 70s or so, even their hooliganism is very 70/80s. They'll need time to catch up to the majority of the western world. If people think their racism is bad they wouldn't want to see or hear how they behave towards homosexuality. Can't really blame them per say, it's ignorance passed down through generations, it'll take decades for it to die out much like it has in England, although there's still a lot of people here living in the past too as can be seen if Britain first ever has a march near you. Shames me to admit my grandparents hold very archaic views even now in their 80s, you can't really change what's ingrained into people from birth sadly, you can only hope empathy and education of the next generation stamps it out for good eventually.
