So you genuinely believe we can't even afford a fee significantly lower than £10 mill? If SAF thought there were other players with equal potential then bringing him might have been detrimental to the development of all parties concerned but let's not use common sense. WE'RE DOOMED, Pogue Mahone says so.

Play for Manchester United's first team and look fairly impressive.

Funny how everyone wants to assume it's a money issue. Perhaps the kid isn't worth 10m now. Look at some recent big money signings. Hargreaves - crocked, Anderson - hot and cold, Nani - enigma, Berbatov - jury still out, Valencia - doing quite well. Perhaps the Glazers said no. Perhaps the staff felt the player wasn't as good as initially advertised. Perhaps SAF has targeted another player and the Glazers allocated these funds to that signing. Only time will tell.

Too many on this forum can't wait for the day MUFC go belly up so they can sit on their high horse and say, "I told you so."

    Pathetic.

What we did in the summer? I believe we spent £18m on Obertan, Valencia and a free agent, and received £80m for Ronaldo. That's a profit of £62m...

That was it, anything else was as speculative as our saying there could be a financial reason behind this deal going south. We don't know how much we bid for Benzema, and even if we did bid big then - well that was 4 months ago, plenty of things could of changed since then.

If someone could come up with a valid alternative for why the club have flipped a bitch in the last 3 weeks I'm all ears, until then I'm with Pogue et al. on this one and think it has to be financial*

*Please note I'm not saying we're weeks from administration, I'm saying that the club may have reduced the transfer budget significantly, leading SAF to pull out of this deal to focus what money is available on another target.

Ramsey fee agreed - Manchester United Official Web Site

United have agreed a fee with Cardiff City to bring talented teenager Aaron Ramsey to Old Trafford.

The 17-year-old left-sided midfielder has yet to agree personal terms and must also pass a medical before any deal can be completed.

A club spokesperson told ManUtd.com: "Manchester United is delighted to announce it has agreed terms with Cardiff City for the transfer of Aaron Ramsey subject to contract terms being agreed and the player passing a medical."

Third club joins Ramsey race - Manchester United Official Web Site

The 17-year-old was on Tuesday given permission to talk to United by Cardiff, who also confirmed that another unnamed Premier League club - reported to be Arsenal - had made a successful bid. Then on Wednesday Everton confirmed their £5million offer had been accepted.

For feck's sake can you not read???

I'm no saying we can't afford it, I'm suggesting that perhaps the budget for January has been reduced, leading SAF to prioritise the signing of someone else over Ljajic. If that is the case then it's worrying as everyone had been strutting around thinking we have c.£80m in the bank to blow on Silva, Villa or whichever flavour of the month transfer muppet we gaze upon.

Can you not read?! If the fee was minimal upfront, it wouldn't affect our jan budget.

You didn't answer the question. I'll answer it for you. He will speak highly of players already at the club to motivate them and to inflate their transfer fee.

Two more questions. Take your time in answering this time. The official statement said that a decision was made after monitoring the progress of Ljajic for 12 months.

SAF stated one month ago that Ljajic had been a real star of the European U-19s, that he was hopeful about getting a permit and looking forward to Ljajic joining the club.

What kind of feedback do you think SAF had been receiving about Ljajic from our scouts in the 10 months leading up to that statement? Is this consistent with the official statement on the United website?

The fee for younger players is always split, with a small fee up front, then more paid upon appearances etc...i.e. its performance related payments.

Thats the point that Fig was making.

A month ago SAF hadn't even seen how Obertan would do in a full match for us and knowing that he'd arrive before Ljajic maybe SAF wanted to see how he'd work out and hence had that clause put in, ever thought that could be one of the reasons or maybe the development of Cleverly at watford? Thought about that? No no I'm the dim one who attends UCL and you're the genius, who's the full time shrink, go figure.

Yeah that does seem a little fishy, im sure the opening questions would have been along those lines - why didnt you sign him? didnt you say he was coming over in jan?...

But still it could be unrelated as well

You're really proud about being a student at UCL, aren't you? Bless.

SAF will have been following the development of Obertan and Cleverley just as closely as he's been following Ljajic. I don't think any of them will have posed a major surprise in the last three weeks. Not enough for him to back down on signing a player he's already gone to such great lengths to welcome into the fold.

Seriously who gives a shit if you attend UCL...

You haven't graduated from there so give it a rest until you do you arse.

If you want to talk education then I'm sure there are plenty of others who are far more educated on this forum than you. Probably including me.

Pogue always seems to resort to personal insults and I thought him making comments about my intellect was ironic given our educational backgrounds.

No great surprise that Ben Gibbs is towing the party line. Bit surprising that even he has the brass neck to trot out that stuff about Gibson showing more promise. I like Gibson but he's four years older and was nowhere near Ljajic's level when he was the same age.

I guess they went with a name that was most recently in the papers. Kind of patronising but there you go.

He's not a doctor, he's a therapist/shrink, two very different things. I'm doing eng, which is quite a bit harder than psychology. He's an idiot for constantly trying to pull rank.

You do know to become a shrink you must train as a doctor? Which, though I've not done it myself, is said to be rather difficult.

Yeah, that's the report you can find now. The initial report was entitled 'Reds sign Ramsey' - that was the error.
