There's no turning back now. Going down with his ship
Put him on special training one last time.
I'd say he was the best player on a title-winning team. He was frustrating on the whole, but very, very good for that season, and parts of the seasons before and after.
Desperate face-saving under the guise of deliberate wumming is more like it.
you don't know me at all! I am embarrassed by very little, just look at my tagline!
I stand by what i originally said despite over exaggerating my point. Nani had some brilliant moments for us but few and far between. He was far too frustrating and far too inconsistant. However, he seems to get a free pass on here. The man was truly adored. Fair enough. But many other players don't get such a free pass and Luke Shaw is one of them (Lingard is another big example but i have derailed thus thread enough.)
Shaw is a natural footballer and a very good left back, who can operate as a wing back which is handy as jose likes to play 3-5-2. Now, i personally thought he was playing very well up to his leg break and i think that if he can get back to fitness and sharpness then he can become a fantastic player for us.
I actually agree with a lot of that, but I think Nani divided opinion much more than you remember.
Nani was a difficult personality, but a good nation nation national national level player. Except when he fecked up that really good Ronnie goal.
Smalling not improved? If that was the case would we not be playing someone else rather than him?
-moved to other thread-
Who’s the new signing?
To the player performance thread!
Hasn't lost his pace.
If Mourinho sells him to replace him with Rose...Oh my God
Will he ever be a solid and attentive enough defender for Mourinho though...?
Not sure. I like him, but he does switch off.
Makes a good wing back. Less emphasis on defending and he does well bringing the ball forward.
Also, imagine how good Evra would have been in the 352 .
must be a while since he's done a full 90
20th April. Played 120 mins v Anderlecht. I think that was the game that Mourinho was complimentary to him for not coming off.
Ah ok not that long ago, and maybe his fitness isn't as bad as I'd thought. Looks sharp tonight.
Not much left in the tank for the last 15 minutes but a really encouraging performance from him.
He did go down with cramp about 10 mins ago and since then has been pretty reserved but guess with him not playing much and busting a gut at times it was going to happen. Last time he played a game was in mid October and that was a few mins at the end of a game. Before that it was a few appearances for the U23s.
8 months is pretty long
Sign him up.
Could save us £50m if he can get rotate with Young in the second half of the season.
Not in terms of Jones mathematics.
Can he make a serious comeback? Perhaps if he is selected for a couple of months? What do you think?
We do need a left back, it would be great if the solution is already in our squad!...
Today's performance was very encouraging so after all the loan option seems to be the most realistic option. Extend his contract then loan him for a midtable club and see what he will do there.
Praising Luke Shaw without a prompt but it feels too good to be true and possibly trying to big up his value. Hopefully, Shaw features a bit more soon enough.
true I guess my expectations are pretty low
He is a hopeless injury prone player like Jones
Did he do enough to get picked against Bournemouth?
He's not playing against City anyway.
Tough to say. I'd say play Shaw against Bournemouth and Bristol over this period but can't see him starting a league game for a while.
Played well. If i was the boss i would sell Damian and maybe even Blind and get Rose in and have Shaw and Rose rotate that LB spot.
Not a bad idea to extend his contract but I reckon we should send him on loan for a season so he can get his level back. He has great potential but in order to get him to that point, it is essential for him to play on a regular basis. I believe Mourinho doesn't fully trust him so if he stays he won't be playing that regularly. Rumours are that he is going on loan next season.
We're not exactly full of natural left backs so why send him out on loan when there were so many positives from yesterday? Barmy idea!
He does switch off at times which is probably one of Mourinho's problems with him.
With 8 games in 21 days, maybe he should get few chances. Home games against Bournemouth and away to Bristol is the best bet.
Also we have Southampton at home on 30th december and away to Everton Jan 1st, so maybe Southampton game would be good one to rest Young.
I’d say start Shaw against Bournemouth, Bristol City and Southampton as they’re all games we're heavy favourites for and then Shaw can be assessed a bit better but last night I thought he was great.
Given how long he was out, it was a good game for him to come back into. He didn't switch off really;it'd be harsh to blame him for the goal as Smalling( who does switch off) played the right winger on side
