Let's hope so as even though on paper we're stocked with left backs with Shaw, Blind, Rojo, Darmian, CBJ and Mitchell we've not got one standout left back.

I genuinely like the lad and really hope he kicks on and shows the form that he began showing pre injury, having Valencia and Shaw bombing down the flanks would be a joy to see if they're both on form.

I hope so, we'd be set for 10 years.
He has all the talent in the world, his obstacles are mental IMO.

He looks leaner, so I am prepared to believe that.

It could also be his last season. For his sake and the club's, I hope he's right. I've loved watching him since he joined.

If it doesn't turn to be, this could be his last at United. I'm not very confident of him making it.

He's an immature bellend and he'll be gone inside 12 months.

If Martial, Shaw, Mkhitaryan, Rashford and Pogba all make a leap in performance (that they're all capable of) that's a group of new players right there. As well as the new signings, we need our current players to show what they can do.

Doesn't he say the same thing every start of the season?
I am sure he said this last season, well good luck to him and hope he can prove it on the pitch.
I also get the feeling this could be his last season at United to prove himself.

Lets not forget he also suffered a double leg break which rules out a year of that at least.

Feels like the last chance for him. Seems like we won't be buying a LB so he's got an opportunity to prove himself.

Then again, we could be going 352 and Perisic (if he comes) will be taking the LWB role.

Still only 22. No reason he can't push on this season and compete for a starting position but it's down to him. I think with young players when they break through so early in their career you naturally expect their trajectory to keep rising every season, but it doesn't always happen like that.

Basically, it'll interesting to see if he starts to fulfill his early promise, or if goes the way of Rafael.

If he's saying this then surely he's coming back sooner than December.

Give the kid a break, he had a brutal leg break at a young age and just when things were starting to come good for him, and he's struggled to get over that, physically and mentally. Plus let's take into account the managerial shambles he's been trying to navigate at the same time.

It's the final year of his contract anyway. If we don't activate he extension, he's free agent next agent next summer.

Last chance saloon for him. Was a big fan of his before he signed but he's been mostly injured and the last 3 managers have questioned his commitment and fitness levels.

Last chance for him imo. It's gonna be what, his 4th season with us now? It's been 3 years of constant excuses and what if's, he needs to start performing now. We've felt sorry for his leg break and all that, that's all done now, he needs to buck up or we need to strengthen that position, has been weak since Evra left.

I am glad he feels so confident. Still think he has what it takes to make the LB or LWB spot his own. Though have to admit he has to prove me right sooner rather than later.

This guy is way too unreliable. He's just not worth the time.

Mendy hasn't joined City yet. Why aren't we in for him? He would be perfect for us.

I expect linear progression from Martial and Rashford. Huge difference in performance from Mkhi and more maturity from Pogba. If Shaw becomes serviceable that's a huge one.

I don't like the word 'could'. Sounds like he doesn't even believe it himself.

First he needs to become fit. Didn't Jose recently say he will miss the first half of the season.

Thing is. LB is our weakest position. So easy to solidify a place there. Hence my 'Wayne Rooney doing a James Milner' thread.

He just needs to work hard. Mature.

Easy to forget how good Shaw looked prior to the injury, which clearly had an adverse affect on the mental side of things.

He has the ability to be a world class fullback given a good run of games.

This will definitely be his 'Make or Break' season. He's very much talented, but injuries have held him back a lot. Forgetting the freak injury, he seems to get injured a lot. He needs to have a run of games to become consistent and improve. But to make that happen, he needs to remain injury free for a while, and this is my biggest concern. I'm hoping that he gets a consistent run this season and makes the LB position his own. But if he doesn't come through his season, we should just cut our losses and buy a new LB next season.

Positive words and a promising attitude so naturally loads of people moaning about it. Good stuff
