I saw this 19 year old kid last night for Fluminense against Atletico PR and he was the best player on the pitch and scored a nice goal forming a deadly attack with ex Lyon striker Fred. He already starred in the World Cup Under 20's in Egypt Maicon Marques Bitencourt Profile: Fluminense Striker Brings Brazil Into U20 World Cup Semi-Finals | Suite101.com and he is around 6 foot tall!
Fluminense are broke and have 3 games left to play in the league and face relagation so this kid could go for very cheap if that happens. Fergie should ask ex-fluminense's da Silva twins about him. Definitely a name to look out for in the near future!

He's also made a name for himself at Inter as a 28 year old right back, perhaps the best right back in the world. Impressive versatility, that.

It's that African curse of age hitting Brazilians... Never really know how old they are...

I think this is the Maicon the press meant when talking about United's apparent/supposed interest. And the older Maicon took it to his agent, they twisted it, and voila - new contract talks!

Together with Douglas Costa, he was more of impact sub during the U-20 World Cup. I don't really see much about him that stood out during those games.

Bayer Leverkusen Join Race For Fluminense's Maicon - Report
The Brazilian attacker could be set for a European adventure. Several clubs are courting him, with suitors in Germany, Italy and England...
    Nov 26, 2009 12:22:01 PM

According to a report in Italian publication Corriere dello Sport, Bundesliga table toppers Bayer Leverkusen have joined the race to secure the services of Brazilian youngster Maicon.

The promising attacker was one of the surprises of the FIFA Under-20 World Championship earlier this year and attracted the interest of several European clubs with his performances in Egypt.

Clubs such as Palermo, Cagliari and even Manchester United are all believed to be keeping tabs on Maicon, and Leverkusen have now apparently added their name to his list of admirers.

The Werkself are eager to add some more depth to their squad up front, thus anticipating the departure of Greek hitman Theofanis Gekas.

His current contract at Fluminense is due to expire in the summer of 2012.
