Why? Moyes has failed miserably at every job since. He is a laughing stock of football and rightly so.

Oh, I'm pretty sure he holds himself in high regard.

I recall post-match interview with him where, after being asked how he felt about scoring such an excellent goal, he responded with "I am Eric, zis is what iz possible".

    I was in hysterics

He'd be a disaster, it's a role for experienced negotiators and people that move with diplomacy and knowledge of acting in a businesslike manner, Cantona is an eccentric with zero experience in this area of football and a complete lack of filter, this isn't the job for him, Neville himsel said he would be a bad fit as it requires experience and he has none, and Neville is a lot calmer and more proffesional than Cantona.

LVG anyone ? Guy knows to spot a talent but he can't be involved in match day decisions.

Knowing him, he will what supreme power in everything including the match day selection and how you want to play. Probably a wrong choice :D

Jesus Christ, Peter, have some attachment to reality.

He binned everyone with experience, he wanted his own staff, he got rid of Mike Phelan, he got rid of Rene and replaced them with Phil Neville. He alienated title winning players, that were sure on the way out but had valuable years of experience left. He took title winners to 7th. The one manager of the last 3 that got a raw deal was maybe LVG but tbh the football was utter shite so I get it.

There were many crimes that were allowed to go on in the Moyes era and I'll concede that maybe 30% of them weren't his fault but feck me, the one thing they got right was binning him off.

It was definitely arrogance because if you watched his career since it would be safe to say he has no insecurities. In his mind he believes that he is a champions league manager when nothing could be further from the truth.
Sacking the backroom staff, taking two weeks holiday before he sat in the most important seat in sports, dithering in the transfer market with a very green CEO plus the bigging up of our rivals while questioning the quality of our players. He was a disaster that carried on his record of being difficult to beat at Everton, even blaming the match of a million crosses on the "United way".He was a fecking joke and still is. The writing was on the wall pre season when we lost to the singha all stars and he decided to bring the squad on a pre dinner stroll on Bondai beach with no security. This club was far far far too big for him and he never admitted it, not even to himself.

I think that we should bring in whoever need in which ever position to get us back challenging for major honours. How do you know that we can't afford so many layers please?

DOF is left footed, can't have him playing on the right of a central midfield 3.

The more I think about it and the more likely it is Ole is going to get the job, I think we should be doing everything to bring in Van Der Sar.

Not that this is a serious proposal, but while has a decent record at bringing through youth talent, but his record in the transfer market is atrocious; especially with us.

So you think the British government is functioning very well in particular on Brexit? Like ANY and EVERY organisation, the thinner is better particularly if every major decision needs to go back to the top anyway.

I don't know anything about Brexit sorry.
I am also not sure how every organisation runs as I don't have experience in business.

On your point of the thinner organisation I understand it as less money to pay out. Please correct me if I am wrong mate.
If the point is to save money I can understand that in the majority of businesses but we have a lot of money anyway and I think we should pay that little bit more if need be to get back where we should be challenging for major honours.

Moyes should have been given more time IF He wasn't clueless.
He looked like a monkey being put in a spotlight. He acted DeMickey and tried to bring the club to his level. Feck him, if He stayed for 2 more years We'd had finished 11th.

Peter, stay away from DoF position.

Not sure if this was posted before but here it goes.

We seem unable to offload all the deadwood in our squad for a while now, some of them still linger on as a part of the team getting new contracts and such. Think I know why is that.

    Deadwood
    Edwood
    Ed Woodward

    Illuminati confirmed.

If we are going down the former player route I think Blanc or Van der Sar would make good candidates

I hope we don’t though...I feel we need an experienced pair of hands, certainly while we define the role

This search for DoF is like " winter is coming" phrase in game of thrones. It came in 6th season.
Hire the guy already so that he has time to prepare things for summer transfer window.

Mate, my point is, the more layers of decision making only means bureaucracy. To identify the right player and make the right decision, you only need the scouts, manager, DOF and perhaps the MD giving the approval. If you think we should spend more money on players recruitment process, then either use the money to hire a few extra scouts, or better still, use it as bonus for anyone who can identify a Hernandez or CR that cost us less than 35m. A 200K bonus would surely motivate the team or any individual.

I would like to see Matthias Summer as DoF. I think he is the constant in the success teams of german football. Former Bayern, now Dortmund. And at the moment he is just consultant. It should be possible to get him.

Thanks for explaining your point mate :).

I can understand the bit about the bureaucracy and that is something I would definitely not want happening as I wouldn't want a scenario which could have any negative effect on the club.
I suggested bringing in extra staff as I thought that it may help us in the long term. If we could identify and sign the same level of players with minimal staff like you suggested this would perfect, as the money could be spent somewhere else. If the scenario does happen, I hope it works out well that way as it would be more simplistic.

As we have over 50 scouts at moment I wouldn't want anymore, I have read recently that this vast scouting network is starting to come to fruition and I hope with the right DoF above the scouting department that the investment starts paying off soon.

I think you make a very good point with the part in bold and if we could find someone capable of doing this it would make me very happy :D

I still think it’s important that we bring in someone who can ideally identify the style of play we wish to play, then go out and shortlist players who’d be good for us and be at the club long-term and ensure succession controls are implemented when they eventually leave. Our recruitment has been really poor the past few years. We’ve had massive surpluses of players for one position at times and massive deficits in others.

Moyes certainly looks like he panic bought Fellaini and Mata. LVG had invested a lot of money in mediocrity and Jose bought players then fell out with them in some way. There haven’t been many successes in terms of transfer buys with these three guys. I find it a major red flag that when we bring on Mata and Sanchez, we look much worse even though we’ve put a lot of investment in them. These players should be making opposing teams shit themselves if we’re bringing them off the bench.

I swear these last 12 games under OGS have I actually identified what Utds style of play is for the first time in six years, compared to the previous three regimes where I had no fecking idea what we’re ultimately doing.

Can we hire one already? 4-5 key areas needed to be address at and we don't just need squad players who just there to "get the job done and collect paycheck" we need quality ones.

    Long overhaul ahead.

I hope we hire someone who has no former attachments to the club. We need to get serious about shipping out the dross and bringing in genuine quality. I'm sick of us persisting with the same old failures year after year because they do a job, or they are a nice guy. If we hire Ole and another former player as DoF they'll just turn it in to an old boys club for the likes of Ashley Young and Phil Jones

This is a more important appointment than the manager. We need to find a way to beat the likes of City and PSG in the transfer market, if we can't do that it doesn't matter who the manager is.

Yes, everything else is secondary to this big structural issue. Last night was the result of the directionless transfer policy of the last 6 years under 3 different managers.

If true really disappointing. I can imagine the board will appoint Solksjaer on a 3 year contract with a low termination clause, he'll get max £80m to spend. Solksjaer will inevitably fail through no fault of his own and we'll be in the same predicament.

Hopefully this will all be bullshit

Andy Mitten seems to think we are looking for someone though.
