So, after meeting both international managers "the kid" decides to play for Scotland. Southgate probably told him he might make the World Cup in 2026.

Happy with that. Free in the summers. What does the Caf make of this?

(deserves its own thread I think)

Sensible decision from him, seeing as I don't think he's good enough to be an England regular.

Fair play to him. Not sure why he needed to make this decision just yet but I feel the media have pushed him to make it. Doubt he would be forced to make this decision if he played for West Brom for example.

That's probably the right choice from his perspective. I can't see him playing many times for England tbh.

Yep, he'll have a better chance with Scotland. He's probably been told as such, too.

A lot of presumptions being made here, we have no idea what kind of trajectory his career will take.

Yes, at the moment it’s hard to see him being part of our team for years to come but players can surprise you, he could develop into a monster.

This is like when people were debating Januzaj's allegiance. He's not shown nearly enough quality to be subject of an international tug of war. Good choice punting for Scotland because he will get far more caps for them.

I thought this kid would go for it … played safe.

Who cares, at the end of the day, I hope he matures into a World Class player that has a really great rest every 2 seasons!

It really doesn't seem that long ago that we were desperate to sign him to a megabucks deal and trying to get him to play for England!

Not entirely sure how, as he'll be in every Scottish squad ever now, probably playing every game, whereas for England he'd not be anywhere near a guarantee.

Sort of a ridiculous comparison, bearing in mind there is 1 trophy every 2 years!
How about actually getting to final stages of tournaments? Scotland struggle even now it's barely impossible to get into the euros!

At least Scott is actually eligible for England.

Adnan is also way better and showed a lot more anyway.

That can only be good for his development, and there is also a decent chance of missing out on the summer tournaments. United have had almost nothing but trouble with England, so feck them.

I don't understand this ambition talk. This is international football, not club football.
You could offer me a world cup final appearance in another shirt and I'd still choose Ireland.
Just because he has a choice doesn't mean he's torn or had a 50/50 decision to make.

Great choice. There’s much more sense of achievement in helping a nation reach a tournament, rather than cruising through cannon fodder group stages and crumbling at every single tournament.

To be honest if he's not good enough for England then he's not good enough for United.

That’s not the case. He has chosen to play for Scotland - Southgate was interested too.

The worst are the people who think they're the overruling master on what nationality people are and would be going on about how Scott isn't really Scottish.

Slightly surprised after he turned down the Scotland call last time. Must have preferred the offer from Scotland after speaking to the two camps.

Good decision. The less we lose players to international obligations the better.

Correct decision, he'll probably only win a few caps for England. Scotland he has a good opportunity of being a regular in the squad.

He apparently didn't speak to Southgate before making this. My guess is he was just waiting to see who the next Scotland manager would be before committing, either that or McLeish asked Fergie to have a word with him and convince him.

    McTominay.

Don't care too much about England NT nor Scotland NT, but with this, he'll play more and have more chances to improve his game. Also, should be more available for us. Other than some of United supporters, doubt anyone else rate him anyway. He'll probably receive the Carrick's treatment if he choose England.

Still, is it really confirm yet?
I mean, he still have time to decide otherwise, no?
Until after getting first cap? Don't know how this Football NT player reg. system works.
