Just want to say what a monster of a player he is, and i have no doubts that had Chelsea been able to play him from the first day this season, they would have been leading the league or at least a lot closer than where they are today. Totally nullified Gerrard each and every time they come together. Surely the best midfielder in the world???

Best midfielder in the world alongside Xavi.

Absolute beat and a half. Chelsea would be a several points better off had he been fit for the whole season.

He showed his worth yesterday in bunches... Still in my opinion a game changer in the race for all three trophies, I don't care what anyone thinks.

I rate Xavi's attacking ability > Essien but vice versa defensively.

Watching Essien play is just like watching Makelele play, and I rate him as one of the best all-time

Totally, and it baffles me how he is so underrated by most fans and the media. Granted he doesn't score as much as Gerrard, but Gerrard's versatility is so overhyped, to the extent that in RAWK, they are hailing him as the most complete player ever? Come on, Essien is so good that he can play as fullback or centreback, midfield or attacking midfield, and totally nullified whatever threats in that respective position, and he is that damn good... With him and Lampard, surely the best midfield pairing in the world, and nobody even a close second.

We wanted to buy him, didnt we??? before the renties gave him a big bag of money to join them..... our team would have been much more balanced in the midfield with him playing for us. cant forget his goal againt the gooners, amazing..

Essien's attacking ability is actually underrated.

If it came down to it, Essien v Xavi, mono e mono, I think there would only be one winner!

Well put. Everybody knows that Avram Grant underutilised Essien by putting him in the Makelele role, due to the purchase of Ballack and the automatic inclusion of Lampard. If he is given the freedom in centre midfield, like Carrick or Scholes, he would be hailed by everybody as the best player in the world. Strength, heading, shooting, passing, incredible stamina, tackles well, inspirational, disciplined, techique, he has every quality of a footballer, except dribbling.

Not for fun but he gets goals as often as any of United's CM currently. He is a magnificent player and really does it all, not the brightest lad, but a player that has everything in his locker, including desire to be the best. Liverpool would have won 3-0 wed night had he not been in there, he marked Gerrard out of the game. When you do that Liverpool have trouble getting the ball to Torres who despite being world class himself cant do it all on his own. Essien the type of player you build a team around, when Chelsea have had an absence at RB he is slotted in there well, also, in terms of his presence in MF he fecking rapes players legally, thats how good he is

I remember everyone in here being very interested about signing him from Lyon.
Then he misses a penalty in a Cl match and most of us thought he wasn't worth the money.

Well, to be honest, i didn't know a whole lot about him when he was in Lyon. It's only when i saw him in a Chelsea shirt, i knew we had missed probably the best all round midfielder in the last couple of years. He's like having Keano's and Vieira's defensive qualities and Gerrard's attacking qualities, while possessing twice the stamina Park has. Freak of a nature, i tell you.

I'm pretty sure we had this conversation in the newbies too. Agreed with you then and still do. A beast of a player - the closest thing to Roy Keane in football at the minute. He's actually the only one of our rival's players that I can recall having a man crush on.

Xavi technically speaking is on another level never mind a player like Iniesta. Essien has never really showed his true attacking prowess though, he's being wasted at a DM position.
I'd drop Ballack, swap him with Mikel so that Essien could have more attacking to his game.

Great player, Gerrard isn't fit to lace his boots. We have a mini-essien in our team though.

Fletcher:D I know he isn't even half the player, but a mini-essien is better than no essien at all.

Best midfielder in the world. Been saying that for months now.

Nothing he can't do tbh. Just an amazing player, criminally misused by Chelsea last season aswell.

Can't see how anyone can think he's better than Xavi.

Or how anyone could compare him to Makelele, he's the African Roy Keane.

Yes but you're probably just saying that to talk down another 'overrated Spanish player'.
