    Agreed.
They cut out a lot of their antics as well. The Spanish sides are a lot worse these days when it comes to that.

The 3 big leagues tend to fluctuate in quality, England had it's peak and now is going over the other side.

Success breeds success, brings players and coaches into the league, increases revenue and generally creates a winning mentality and superiority complex. Eventually though complacency sets in and teams get stuck in a rut, then before they know it they have key players who have aged and a side that has lost its hunger and gone stale. The Italian sides in the mean time while apparently being in decline have rebuilt on the quiet and are on the way back up, this season will be a massive momentum builder for them you feel. Fancy they wont be below Germany for long in terms of coeffecients.

It's what makes SAF so good. He tends to ride these fluctuations and keep rebuilding teams without anybody even noticing. You'd never get a Manchester United team that was left in the situation Chelsea are in - suddenly realising they need an almost entire new team.

SAF is all about building tiers of experience so when one tier is too old another tier can assume their place. We lost Brown, O'Shea, VDS and Neville which is a lot of experience and nous but we still have Carrick, Vidic, Rio, Evra etc. and when they go we'll still hopefully have Nani, Rooney, Evans etc. Chelsea haven't really ever planned years ahead, although there is good young talent there, the massive problem with Chelsea is the owner has too much influence on the signings and he has backed his players over his manager far too often.

I think Football in general has tailed off in terms of quality in the last few years, only the Spainards have made me nod my head in appreciation. Inter were Champions League Winners 2 years ago and they're struggling in Italy now. It'd appear a lot of teams are very bad at managing transition. You could see it for years that Milan needed youth.

I'm kinda hoping German teams will break through soon in Europe. They're producing so many good young players at the moment, it's a great balanced, competitive league with the right set-up in almost every area but it's probably 'too competitive' and their teams don't seem to be able to be able to do anything in Europe - Bayern aside.

Their national team has a great young team, only nation that can compete with Spain come the Euros for me.

Yeah Bayern and Dortmund have very tasty looking squads for next years CL. It's very weird though because the very best team in the CL is incredible but for me there's not much after that at all, Madrid apart.

Can't see past Barca or Madrid for it this year really, like you say there's a bit of a drop off after those two.

Napoli winning it would be great mind, the celebrations in Naples would last for weeks.

I hope it's a Barca/Madrid final just so I don't have to watch the theatrics for 2 legs.

How are Bayern Munich doing now? They had a barnstorming start to the season

Is there a whole side of the stadium empty for the Mars vs Inter game?

Yes, not too shabby. Basel are trying to play some football.

You at the game posting from your phone, or just from Basel? :)

In other news: Ohhh! So close! What a save!

Didn't mean that I'm there or in Basel. Just meant to clarify which game I was watching.

This is agonizing, Basel are outplaying Bayern, two off the post and one off the post and the line! The crowd are in great voice, this is a fantastic game!

2 bars for Basel so far.

    2 chances for Bayern.

    Cracking game so far.

I don't feel so bad that we lost to Basel. Actually I still do. Decent side though.

Just a thought. Commentator on ITV said that this Inter team had 10 players starting who started the CL final when they won it.

Zarate and Forlan started. Neither were at Inter then. LIARS.

I've always wondered about these giant flag waving. Why do that? Sure it looks good on tele but surely it takes your mind of the game and blocks the view for a lot of people.
    It's like a dude's ass in a softcore porno.

Probably, fun game so far in Basel.
Very open to be a European game on this level, bless Basel's inevitably-punished sloppiness.

Zanetti and Giggs should have kids together.

IMAGINE THE KIDS. They'd play till they were 60
