Yes and Phelan isn't respected in football? Is that why he's getting a job offer from Premier League club? The same Phelan who's been at the club for over 10 years and coaching since 95?

Its funny how we all forget that period where Carlos was a hate figure for the fans and was blamed for all our failings. Its widely believed Keane was a fierce critic as well.

I reckon if Phelan leaves, during our next rocky spell we'll have fans saying "please bring back Phelan".

Probably yes. But for whatever reason I would not be sad to see him go

    That's because he's SAF's assistant, it's a perk of the job.

    Phelan is offered West Brom.

    Real Madrid wanted Quieroz.

 No point talking to you. You don't get to be at United for over 10 years without being very good at what you do.

Quieroz got sacked from both his major managerial gigs. He now manages Iran. Go figure.

He must offer something, otherwise he wouldn't have been with us for so long. Let's not forget we have got to two Champions League finals and won two leagues with him as SAF's assistant.

As much as I like Mike, I really don't think he has the personality to be a manager. Would be a bad move for him IMHO.

Plus it isn't great for us. SAF has been happy with him for 3 years now. Never nice to have a forced change of coaching structure.

Not one person here is qualified enough to pass judgement on Phelan or Quieroz's contribution. But please, continue judging based on nothing but assumptions.

Forgetting the fact that it's Phelan, sometimes changing an assistant can freshen things up, or at least that's how it seems from the outside. Then again, I suppose Rene would be promoted if he did leave, so not a lot would change, you'd think.

Makes no sense to wanna get rid of Phelan when we know nothing of his (good or bad) work.Same with Queiroz, what makes us think he'd be better than Phelan when we practically know nothing of his work

Money aside & I'm not to sure why you brought it up, but managing West Brom a Premier League club would be generally considered a bigger managerial job than managing a nation out in the middle east.

The players used to big up Carlos a lot, doesn't seem to happen with Phelan.

    Point being?

Drogba could also get a bigger job than China.

Carlos could get plenty of PL jobs still if he wanted.

Well we know quite a lot about Quieroz's contribution based on what players have said/written since he left.

It is bizarre, but I think people favor Querioz because both Sir Alex and Neville has hailed his tactics and training methods. I remember some interesting quotes from Nev about Queiroz' training before the semi finals against Barcelona in 08

I have it on good authority that Phelan's only around to make coffee, put out cones, and clean Sir Alex's toes.

    Bring back Schteve please.

I get the impression that's exactly the process that is being taken. Meulensteen has been visibly more and more in the public eye since taking over as first team coach a few years ago. I also think that Ferguson tends to make it clear that an assistant manager is there to bring fresh ideas in and benefit himself from the experience. It's not intended to be a long term role.

Look at how many he has had in 25 years:

    Knox (5 Years)
    Kidd (7 Years)
    McClaren (2 years)
    Ryan (1 year)
    Quieroz (1 year)
    Smith (>1 Year)
    Quieroz (4 years)
    Phelan (4 Years and counting)

Based on opinions from the likes of Rio, Gaz Nev, SAF actually.

Strange that they were so happy to pile praise on Carlos but not Mike.

Based on what, his managerial career since he left us or the fact he worked along side one of the best managers of all time?

Can I see quotes? Were they praising him after he left? It makes perfect sense for SAF not to announce to the world how impressive/shit Phelan has been while he's still in the job.

Also, I remember SAF was being asked about him specifically after he became the punching bag of the fans.

You really can't judge someone based on what is said about them in the press ffs.

Not exactly the greatest praise regarding his abilities.

I'm not saying he's poor by the way, just always felt there were probably better coaches out there.
