I'm well happy for people to get paid the money if they are willing to earn for the effort they put in like Frank Lampard did.

It could be argued that as he has won the World Cup but Lampard put in consistent performances and had high numbers for many years which Pogba hasn't done yet and is something I can hopefully see him doing soon.

As of the moment I don't think he is worth £280,000 a week as he lacks consistency to go along with his considerable talent. Also his attitude isn't the best but that could be down to the way Jose treated him like crap mate.

I was one of those who used to love cracking jokes about Phelan's role at United. The fact that he became no 2 when SAF was basically packing his bags made him an easy target. It gave the impression that he wasn't in the job because he deserved it but mainly because he was already there and there was no point hiring someone else only to sack him few months later when SAF was gone.

However, I started changing my mind when I read SAF's autobiography. Phelan had a big say in United's affair. He was quite influential in United's approach regarding the sensitive issue about Rooney/Ronaldo WC incident. SAF also shared his concerns with him regarding Hargreaves injury and he also travelled with the old man to scout Shinji Kagawa. SAF describes him as "my assistant manager, Mick Phelan, a really shrewd, observant, true football man" and stuck his neck for him by trying to persuade Moyesy to keep him at OT. That doesn't sound like a stop gap at all.

There's no doubt were Ole's heart is and the guy has that cynical attitude needed in this sort of job. However he lacks experience. Phelan might help him bridge that.

I remember a lot of people were moaning about him was the reason our playing style looks worse than when we used to had Carlos as our assistant manager, although I couldn’t care much about people were moaning about him at that time since we were still winning trophies.

However, ironically those moaner were probably wrong since Phelan was the first team coach from 2001-2008 and we did play beautiful football when we had him in that period.

Either way, I think this is an interesting temporary appointment Ole with Phelan. Both had much more experienced in coaching and man management than most of Fergie boys, both know about United’s philosophy, and they both also know each other well. Can’t wait to watch the match this weekend.

Those that can't and won't should swiftly be moved on then. I'm glad that Jose has gone but Pogba has not helped his position, he's got be a world beater from now on.

You do make a good point.

He did the same at Chelsea with Ivanovic. But surely once beaten.. Twice shy?

He refused to learn from that. Then when he fielded the players the crowd was clamouring for, if they didn't play as well he would make snide comments towards them and then drop them.

I'm pleased by this aspect of it. When Fergie stood aside, he had to let Moyes, LVG and Jose do their thing, on their own. Now he'll be the person Phelan and Ole will be turning to for advice. It's not like retirement would have stopped him from having opinions about how Utd have been going about things. At least now his opinion will be requested, and very welcome, rather than having to be bottled up.

Solskaer's call apparently. He thought because of the dynamic of himself, Carrick and McKenna, he wanted some experience on his side. Said Phelan worked very closely with SAF and that can only help.

You really cannot argue about it. He won it. It is a fact. He even scored in the final.

I don't think that was his point though. It's arguing who is the player one should aspire to be week in week out, rather than for one summer.

i think you maybe misinterpreting the point when i aid "It could be argued that as he has won the World Cup" I wasn't disputing that he won the World Cup. In was the point that just because I think that someone Frank Lampard would
£280,000' a week after years of consistency, as Pogba lack this consistency I don think he is worth £280,000 a week mate.
