I was talking more about his overall impact, not necessarily as just a defender. Having come up as a left winger, he's obviously not a good defender, but he's still a weapon going forward. I'm actually surprised that Raitala doesn't play more often. He did quite well for the Crew whenever he played. He can also allow Sagna to be freed up.

Anybody else willing to admit they watch San Jose? Only 2 goals scored so far. Doesn't look promising for a good season.

For those who follow Chicago Fire or the MLS in general this is a massive development. Chicago Fire Soccer Club will be re branded to "Chicago City Football Club" and will play at Soldier Field in the city of Chicago. It should be announced in "a few weeks" apparently:

They needed out of that dump of a stadium. It's in the middle of nowhere and a nightmare to get to. I went once for an away match and it was a horrid time.
Soldier Field is not ideal but I hope they have a stadium planned in the future.

As for the name rebrand, internally they'll always be the Fire to the fans but it's a very boring name to replace it with. It worked wonders for Kansas City though, so maybe it's for the best.

Their owner is one of the unambitious lot left in the league. He'll need to go for this team to push on.

Nice stadium but too far out, although getting their is pretty easy, the pub to pitch bus service they ran was excellent. Picked up at various pubs then straight to game and back.

yeah stupid petty nonsense from Inter. The Miami teams full name is actually Club Internacional de Fútbol Miami, the Inter part is just a shortened form of that and isn't reflected on their badge

SKC now losing 5-0 to Monterrey. And that's another CCL where MLS can't win.

Considering MLS teams go into it basically fresh out of pre season while Liga Mx is half way thru theirs it makes quite a difference. Its a shame though because Toronto should have won it last season easily the best team in the CCL.

Huh? They were better than Chivas and had a starting XI on par with America, but Tigres was the best team in that CCL edition just like they are in this edition (on par with Monterrey).

Tigres will probably fail to win it again this year though, frustrating

When I say best team I don’t mean individual player wise I mean that’s Toronto knocked out Tigre’s in their own backyard Knocked out America in their own backyard and then almost did it too Chivas in Mexico they were highly unfortunate in that game because chivas is a shet team to be fair. That’s unprecedented for an MLS team.

I still didn't see anything special in that Toronto team aside from Giovinco, I just watched the Tigres series and it was frustrating to see them lose to be eliminated by such a meh team. I guess they had a much better showing against America (hence the result) but they didn't impress me much tbh.

I thought they were fantastic the whole competition but I guess it’s all opinions.

Keep in mind it’s a team fresh out of pre season against a seasoned team half way through their season.

What a painfully boring match at New York's small time awful pitch. It was like watching paint dry. Neither team deserved to win and 0-0 reflects the game well, despite New York have some small chances to win they didn't look threatening despite the man advantage near the end. Be amazed if they make the play offs if they keep Torrent.

But after last week a point and a clean sheet is nice.

The 2-2 draw against Chicago at home is not a horrible result, but I'm still disappointed with it. We were clearly the better team, but individual errors from both Moor and Vanney ruined our chances. Vanney's 2nd-half changes confused our team and gave Chicago the impetus to take us on. I have no idea why he decided to put Delgado at full back. Richie at full back was doing really well, but Vanney decided to overcomplicate things. Chapman coming in didn't help either as we lost the passing from deep from Delgado.

I don't think Vanney's necessarily a bad coach, but his in-game adjustments make barely any sense most of the time. Our team has potential to perform better in matches like these if not for Vanney's weird subs and in-game adjustments.

MLS supporters always trot out the excuses, but the fact remains that Mexican teams are just more talented. That right there is the real reason why they've won thirteen straight CCL titles. And with the last surviving MLS team in this year's tournament losing 5-0 in the first leg of the semi-final, an all-Mexican final looks increasingly likely. And that'll mean a fourteenth straight win.

The gap in quality is there to see for anyone with eyes.

Mexican teams can also give out 2 or 3x more the wages for their players to go with the talent and season momentum.

Let's not forget we were 20 mins away from winning the competition despite being the worst MLS team at the time, and Toronto lost on penalty kicks 12 months ago.

Yes their is I agree but the undoubtedly inevitable truth is...MLS will pass and overtake Liga MX sooner rather than later because there is too much money and the increasing growth In the states. The sad truth for Mexico is when USA does pass them they will realistically never fully take that throne back.

People, Americans especially, have been saying that for over twenty years, and the gap between the two leagues is about as wide as it's ever been. If indeed such a change were to take place, at the rate things are going it'll likely be when our grandchildren are taking up the sport.

Don't think it's as big as you say. It will be a dying league sooner rather then later because MLS will attract more talent and viewers.

They haven't been attracting greater talent so far, not unless you mean the likes of Kaka, Rooney, and Pirlo. Meanwhile, LigaMX, which is far wealthier than some people realize, is the destination for some of the best young players from Argentina, Chile, and other Latin American countries.

And as for viewers, something else people don't realize is that LigaMX actually gets better tv ratings in the US than MLS does. In fact, even English-language channels like Fox Sports and ESPN have begun to broadcast LigaMX matches. So rather than MLS gaining traction in Mexico, it's LigaMX that has been growing in popularity north of the border.

Anyway, we'll see what transpires in the years to come.

The state of MLS in a nutshell: the last surviving MLS team in the Concacaf CL tournament went down to Mexican team Monterrey 10-2 on aggregate.

It'll be an all-Mexican final this year between Monterrey and Tigres.

Another week passes and I will say this again until it happens.

    SACK CHRIS ARMAS!

This guy is not fit to coach a Sunday league team let alone a midfield professional team.

Looks like Toronto FC will be wearing something similar to United's navy blue (3rd) kit tonight.

I shouldn't have been so naive to think that United's 3rd kit would have been exclusive to them.

$200 million expansion fee, too...No wonder there's no real drive towards investing in the sport.

They're slowly expanding to become as large as the other North American leagues, and if they continue down this road, then MLS will become an easy money factory for the owners. I really hope that some of them develop the drive to invest into the sport and grow it, but I doubt that'll really be the case.

It just .. it really is a recipe for disaster. I can’t think of a logic reason to keep adding teams.

Expansion fee is a good ponzi scheme...

It's crazy. People are arguing US is huge so it can handle, but the interest in MLS is still very niche.

We're hopeless without Piatti and our squad depth is so so poor. Time for some cheese money, please...

I feel sorry for Nani's teammates. Almost always a wasted possession whenever he gets the ball.
