It is reported that Inter Milan have made contact with Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric’s agents over a move.

Sky in Italy are saying that the Croatian midfield maestro is understood to be open to the move after initial discussions took place with the midfielder's representatives.

I mean, this is precisely the kind of creative box to box playmaker United have been crying, no SCREAMING, out for for many seasons. Get him.

The 32-year-old played in 43 games for Real last season, which culminated in their third straight Champions League title, and Modric has since captained his country to the World Cup final in Russia, winning the Golden Ball award for best player.

Just like Ronaldo, our board will not make any moves.
They are looking for players who offer value. So unless Modric is available for a discount, we won't even bother making an enquiry.

Think this year was his peak year, been exceptional, but there's no way we are ever getting him. First off, Madrid always put a higher price when dealing with us. Secondly, I'd doubt he'd even want to come to us.

    Not happening

1 - shouldn’t this be in the transfers forum?

    2 - I hope this is true.

3 - willing to bet my right bollock he’ll never play for United.

If Inter Milan can afford him... United sure as heck can.

Apologies, if I have put this in the wrong place. But Modric! Now THAT is a marquee signing. Because it is a player we absolutely desperately need.

It will be a very idiotic decision from him to leave Madrid for Inter.

Also this thread should be moved to transfer forum.

Real aren’t going to charge us the same price they’ll charge Inter.

    32....yep great long term planning.

Id rather give what we have a chance and invest in positions we need like RW or LB/CB/RB and maybe a young quality backup striker

He won everything there is to win with Real and their best player just left. He might want a new challenge with some fellow Croatians, bringing a sleeping giant back to its former glory. Perfect fit if you ask me.

Where we lack is creativity in central midfield. A defender will make no difference if we want to close the gap with City. A world class creative central midfielder, arguably the best around, most definitely will.

Inter aren't Juve. He's not going to win much with them. Much better to retire at Madrid imo.

I saw an "evening with Cantona" at the Lowry Theatre the year before last. Asked by the audience who was the best player in the world, Cantona said Modric. He called Modric beautiful and the best playmaker and conductor of an offence that he had ever seen.

One of the most under rated players ever, though his quality has started to be recognised and appreciated recently. Would Madrid have been as successful over The last few years without his assists ? I’d love to have him here for a few years.

Mad that he was once voted la liga worst signing of the season.

Couldn't really be leaving at a better time. If Inter sign him they've genuinely put an excellent team together, on paper, so I wouldn't be shocked to see them run Juve close this year even with Ronaldo. Nainggolan and Modric together in midfield would be ridiculously good.

I’m not too sure. Think an admin moves it. Hope this crazy Modric situation is true by the way! Surely Madrid wouldn’t let him go though.

Is he really underrated? He was maybe six/seven years ago but he's been regarded as the best midfielder in the world for years now.

Isn't the general consensus on Modric that he's one of the best midfielders in his generation? Seem a fair assessment to me. Ofcourse, het get's much less attention than you know who, but that's simply inherent to his position. He's also not an overly outgoing guy and never has any scandals or publicity outside of football. Which imo is good, but also makes you less of a superstar to the public.

I generally meant under rated until the past couple of seasons (he was voted la liga worst signing of the season in his first season I believe.)

I rate the guy as one of the GOAT midfielders.

And take a spot in the team from Fred, Pogba or Pereira? No thanks.

I'm very much against buying players heading into their decline, but this guy isn't so his age is irrelevant. He's arguably the best DLP on the planet right now, absolute no brainer.

I guess I meant more un noticed than under rated. I think sometimes because he’s played in teams with equally talented players, but play more ‘Glamourous’ roles , his contribution goes un noticed / not mentioned.

We were only buying two midfielders this summer if we lost Fellaini. That hasn't happened, so there's no room for new additions.

Inter are literally in the "request information" stage. The answer from Madrid will be "ahahahhah. Oh wait, you were serious? Let us laugh harder"

He would be a good fit for a couple of years.. Similar to the role Zlatan played while he was here. If he (modric) were a free signing or a discount signing, then it would make perfect sense. But I believe Madrid are looking to cash in when his image is at an all time high, so they will demand a premium - so we better not get involved.

Edit- for what it's worth, here was my post in the transfer tweets thread:

Makes a difference for what one year? It won't be enough to overtake City.

Not necessarily. I think Madrid are very much in the space of sell players with limited time left for obscene costs and replace with the best young talent. It's a smart longer term move. It might cost a title or two in next couple of years, but could mean many more titles when the new talent beds in.

Yeah feck that, why would you want the best midfielder in the world over a guy you've probably seen play less than 10 times or a 22-year old who's promising but hasn't proven a thing so far.

No, we're not selling Modric. I don't even think Flo would accept Pogba+money(demented on United's part) for him now
