He would be great for either us or Madrid!
If we bring this guy in, I'll know we're on the right track. He's a talent spotting genius.
No, he isn't United bound, he could reject a potential offer.
Big blow for Sevilla. Best in the world in terms of finding bargains. But with big money at his disposal is a different game, can he do an equally good job at the high end?
Article about him leaving due to personal reasons and having several offers from clubs. Anyone care to translate any juicy bits?
In a brief report, 'eldesmarque.com' have revealed that Monchi has communicated to Sevilla that he wants to leave the club. According to the same information, the club’s sporting director has decided it’s time to go for strictly personal reasons.
Monchi has been protagonist of one of the best eras in the history of Sevilla. A former goalkeeper at the Sanchez Pizjuan, he returned to the club’s technical team (scouting, recruitment etc) in 2000, working under Roberto Ales initially. In 2008 he became the sporting director and the club have not only gone on to experience a period filled with trophies, but Monchi has specialised in signing players that have become stars in La Liga.
While there is not yet any official confirmation on the part of the club or Monchi, the news has sent social media mad on Monday evening. Monchi's future seems to be away from Sevilla - and there won’t be any shortage of takers given the great work he has done in recent years.
In 2000, after Sevilla got relegated from the top division, Monchi was appointed its director of football. He was given two objectives by the board: develop the club's youth system and implement a vast scouting policy inside and outside Spain.
Monchi clearly shone in both tasks, as a big number of wonderkids came through the Rojiblancos youth setup (notably Diego Capel, Alberto Moreno, Jesús Navas, Antonio Puerta, Sergio Ramos and José Antonio Reyes), and he also created a network of over 700 scouts around the world. Within this setup, he also helped the club discover a number of profittable bargains (including Adriano, Dani Alves, Júlio Baptista, Federico Fazio, Seydou Keita or Ivan Rakitić), and helped it establish in the top half of the top division in the subsequent decades, making a profit of around €200 million.
Could go to Real. Emery could follow him next year
He's great at his job but his brief as been to find 'bargains' with Sevilla, I wonder how having a larger budget and pool of players to pick from will affect his job.

Surely if he is good at finding bargains he wouldn't suit Real. Their fans like big money, big name buys. They are easy to find.
Yeah, I think Real might be the best bet. I know there were rumors of them pursuing Paratici from Juve, but Monchi would be a great fallback option.
I take it Berta is a no go?
4 out of 6 ended up playing for Barcelona! They should just sign him
I thought we've scrapped the plans for a director of football?
Di Marzio says he declined the offer
Apparently we did not. Interesting.
(AS) Mourinho wants Mocchi, Already has an offer from United
Oh my, he sounds bloody marvellous. I hope this happens, I love a shrewd buy or a bought youth player that turns out to be great. As do most United fans I think.
Should just use him as a scout. It'd be nice to have someone in Spain for the up coming talent there.
'You have to persuade a player on many levels – football, life, finance'
And this is why a manager or Chairman might not cut it sometimes.
To get him would be amazing!!!!
Wasn't convinced by a DOF..... But I am now! Woody get this done!
AS and Decano Deportivo both reporting our interest... Could definitely be something in this!
This guy actually looks very competent, unlike that Berta guy.
Outrageous that there are misgivings about his ability since "he's never worked with a big budget." It's quite simple, actually: the man can spot talent a mile away. And talent is talent, whether it comes cheap or not.
Call me crazy, but I've always been of the opinion that if two items of equal quality are available, it's better to go with the one that costs less.
Besides, we need to remind ourselves that we're not in the business of impressing everyone else with the amount we spend.
We're supposed to be looking to field quality players whom we think give us the best chance of winning trophies.
Disappointed that I can't make a Monster Munch pun because of one single letter in his surname.
Get a DoF to accept a scout role? How?
United went full muppet Yes please.
Sevilla have been renowned for being great at acquiring talent and being shrewd in the transfer market for the last decade. Much thanks to this guy. Seems like a no-brainer, sign him up!
Come on Steve when has that ever stopped you before?
Berta is incompetent?
It's only his nickname, so unleash the puns!
Sad but true, chief - I shall prepare some shit, unfunny puns immediately.
Yes, apparently we wanted him
Perhaps that's why we're interested - more profit for everyone!
