Haven't seen a thread on this. More misery for the miserable one. May be brings Carrick out of retirement.

Last season, despite our great season, things got derailed pretty quickly. This is a bit worrying but however the opening fixtures are ok.

We've got a lot of cover in midfield at the moment, Mourinho didn't give a timeline though, could be one game could be five. I'm more worried about missing Pogba/Lukaku for too long.

Pogba will have to start the season, surely?

Fred - Herrera - Pogba as a three should be enough against Leicester at home.

Fred, Pogba and Pierera maybe? He surely deserves a chance.

Definitely - but starting him in the holding role against a decent EPL side may be too soon, particularly for Jose. We’ll more likely see McTominay start before Pereira sadly.

Things are just getting better it seems.

Periera will need to impress massively in the early games as he will be the number 6 in them alongside Herrera and Fred.

Hopefully he won't have more niggling injuries throughout the season after he comes back, this guy was solid as feck last year.

    lol no.
Herrera / Fred / Fellaini / Pogba / Pereira will be enough until Matic recovers.

There was a story that failing us signing a center back Jose was planning to use Matic in defense in a 3-5-2 to improve ball distribution.

Means we might have to watch Herrera trying to play football.

Bad news but I think it's great opportunity for Pereira to show what he is capable of against EPL opposition, I think the boy is ready, coach's trust is only what he needs.

Pereira is ready - he's had a very impressive preseason so far. Plus he's spent 2 years in Spain playing against Barca and Madrid whilst holding his own at the same time. He's come back with the right mentality and the right attitude, Jose has noticed this too. He's ready.

Probably wouldn't be the worst idea against teams at home, but honestly we don't need 3 at the back against the weaker teams anyway.

I'll be amazed if we don't sign either Maguire or Aldeweireld this window.

Totally agree. Would love to see it. I just don’t think Jose will pick him. Really hope I’m wrong.

I think he will - Pereira is the only one that can play the #6 role and has played every pre season game so far in that position. Unless Herrera or Fred plays there?

My money would be on Herrera in the deeper role. Pereira could come in for Pogba if he’s not deemed ready to start though.

When we signed him, he came back from his vacation and wasn't eligible for first game. He started second game.

Unfortunate but not the end of the world as we have plenty of options/combinations to make due until he's back.

I think that the schedule might let us get away with it for a bit but we can't be complacent. I don't like the fact that Pogba is coming in without a pre-season either. I might be too pessimistic but I just feel that it's asking for an injury. I hate the fact that it always seems to be a messy start to his season preparation for us. We can't seem to catch a break.

I hope Pereira starts ahead of McTominay. Pereira has been great in this pre-season.

and after a magnificent start against Southampton due to the excitement of his return, he had a lot of physical trouble between September and December.

And seeing how Mourinho mistreats him, it would surprise me that he puts himself in danger physically to save his buttocks.

Preseasons do not only exist for the club to earn money but to ensure that players can play 50 games without risk

I am hoping that the praise Jose has just given him is a good sign that he will feature

My only concern with Herrera is his passing - he doesn't have a wide range of passing to get the ball from deep in midfield to attack. He's only seems to be good at short and sideways passing.

I hope so too, it's worth remembering that Pereira has way more top flight experience than McTominay who's only played about 15 times in the PL.

Yep praise from the manager and the fact that he is getting a lot of minutes in these games. Good sign methinks.

Given that he's praised his attitude as well I'd say there's a good chance, same with Bailly. If you impress Mourinho with your attitude then you're at least going to be given a chance to prove yourself.

At the same time it'll only be 3 weeks before he's training again.
It wouldn't take much to get back up to speed, if someone was out for 3 weeks mid season I would like to this k a weeks would get them back up to speed.
Maybe take the international break off to rest up?

Wow! Its time for Pereira to step up and cement his place in the starting XI.

    Fred Pereira Herrera

Can see that being the midfield three against Leicester.

Any word on what his injury was an the surgery needed to correct it? Matic did a fine job for us last season so it sucks he's injured. However, his position is one that I least worried about as far as losing someone for a short term period. If Pereira gets a spot in the squad along with Fred, Herrera, Pogba, and Fellaini, we'll be okay for the first 6 games of the season. Let's hope we're not drawn into a difficult CL group though. Then there is the international break mid September.

fingers crossed buddy. I am still drooling about having someone who can take set pieces

Indeed. What do you think the possible configurations of the Midfield would look like with AP. Him as a 6 or him alongside Fred perhaps more holding and Fred box to box with Pogba a bit more free or advanced?

    Please be ready on Spurs.

While Pereira is simply superb, I don't think he possess required defensive knowledge just yet to become complete midfielder. Matter of time, though.

Thought Perreira was very good yesterday. I'd be surprised if he doesn't feature a lot this year, which may give Jose some much needed options should one of the others get injured/suspended etc.
