Yes, it's the sun but local media are also discussing it.

Oil money in the Premier League? That's a novel idea

It's supposed to be a cousin of the guy who owns City.

OMG Newcastle will be sold to the cousin of the owners of Man City. That can't be good.

Newcastle are a big club imo. Massive stadium in a great city, a big support and have had some decent players/big names there before. If I was a rich royal Arab looking to buy one of the cheaper clubs in the prem Newcastle would be my first choice by a country mile.

With 4 PL teams is in EL and UCL final, Newcastle is being sold to the cousin of City owners and Qatar is interested in Leeds, PL could have strong 8 teams if it happened.

Making the top 4 would be a trophy in itself at that point. You can futuristically go into a season having 8 teams with aspirations for the league. United bouncing back to win the EPL looking even harder now. Good chance they fall into Liverpool level of league title bewilderedness. Not good news at all.

I'd like this to be true. Hope Leeds get bought too, feck it. Let's see how Uefa react when half the fecking Premier League are clawing for dominance and throwing money at the next generation of great players.

Before someone else gets in there..

    Shame you need that:lol:

Back on topic though, not at all surprised by this. More surprised Newcastle have been in Ashley’s hands all this time and no one like this has come in for them. That’s as cheap an entry to the PL as you can get, with quite the following as well.

Wonder if Stan can be tempted by a decent offer...

I often wondered why the City owners didn't go for a club like Newcastle, such strong support, and a great club.

I guess the fact City were an easier purchase, and they could piggy back on Uniteds name were too much of lure, but the smart long term buy would be a club like this, Villa, or Everton if they want more than just parking their money in any old club.

I think if billionaire from the likes of China, the Middle East or even Russia continues to invest in PL and turn them into a top club after Leeds and Newcastle established themselves as top club batting for the league and top 4 so it would make PL become more successful, more competitive and prestige.

PL's revenue would be booming, widening gaps between PL and other top 4 leagues and becoming the big NFL of football in Europe, they'd be throwing money at everything to get best players to play in PL and we get to watch minimums 128 games of top quality 8 or more clubs playing against each other in the league, It's great for neutral from perspective.

We're getting out thought by our rivals with less money, and out bought by City, so if there's another about to enter the fray then it could be a tipping point for the Glazers.

    Silver lining and all that.

If this and Leeds happens it might reduce the chances of a European Super League. Just speculating.

Premier League would be swimming in so much cash that the question might be 'why bother?'. On top of that, the investment would be coming into teams that wouldn't be in a super league anyway if it did come about and it's seemingly not putting them off. If these super rich investors thought it was going to happen wouldn't they be trying to buy up more of the European teams that might be in it instead?

Neutral sure but like I said United will find it hard to sniff the league which would be sad. It will be a game of inches to see who wins the league.

Even then it could possibly have a negative impact on European football as well.

In short these oil funded clubs will ruin football as we used to know it.

Even if bought out, there is no way they could go on a massive splurging spree, look at UEFA in regards to Citeh and how they are clamping down on them, it'll probably be a slow Wolves like gradual process and a long time to play catch up

But I'll tell ya - you can tell City now if they're watching it - we're still fighting for this oil money, and Pep's got to go to Sheikh Mansour and get something, and... and I tell you honestly, I will love it if we beat them, love it!

This is just total speculation but I actually think purchases like this would make a European Superleague more likely rather than less.

The more that clubs like city, Chelsea and (assuming both takeovers happen) Newcastle and Leeds get bankrolled by money totally outside of football, the more Europe's traditional giants ('G14 clubs') will want to put pressure on governing bodies to do something about it. If it looks like the governing bodies won't/can't, then at some point it becomes in their interests to say "we don't want to be part of the rich billionaire plaything league, for the integrity of the sport we're breaking away to form a fairer league".

Of course the likes of the Glazers and Kroenkes can line their own pockets from a super dominant EPL, but you can't exploit new markets and consumers if you're struggling to finish in the top 6 every season.

Personally I think that if the influx of mega rich owners continues, we'll reach a situation where battle lines between the traditionally big clubs and the 'new money' are drawn.
