Going to take a risk and say it will not be the power two.

I’m guessing it’ll be the next CL winner, so basically the best player for all contenders.

    Neymar
    Pogba
    DDG
    Hazard
    De Bruyne
    Aguero
    Lewondowski

For me those teams are the only contenders with Real and Barca. Suppose you can add Isco, Suarez too.

I believe DDG would be favourite for next Ballon d'Or winner if he wins the champions league and premier league with United and wins world cup with Spain. If they don't award him a ballon D" and an award to Messi/Ronaldo instead, a journalist should be banned immediately if they continue sucking up Ronaldo/Messi.

Don't even think they'll pass the group stage in the WC. All South American will struggle in Russia.

    Nope. Gonna be Messi.

The only surprise will be Ronaldo winning it, because it will mean Real have improved from their current form and win CL again.

Half of it will depend on who wins the CL, the other half depends on who wins the World Cup.

Messi still has a shout probably, though it depends on the world cup.

To be fair Ronaldo got off to a slow start last year. Maybe not as slow as this year. But when the business end of the season happens he starts to not really mess about.

Hopefully this is the last we hear about you and Eboue.

Messi is by and far the best in the world again this season. They still probably won't give it to him because his team isn't good enough to win more.

Yeah, Ronaldo has got off to a very slow start in the league and has been stopped by suspension and the fact that he has become a dad again. And even more importantly; people don’t understand the fact that they are human-beings and can have issues with motivation after the summer, after winning the league and the CL (again!). It’s only natural, these guys aren’t machines - even though Ronaldo comes extremely close. He is 32 now, keeping his hunger this long, with all the constant scrutiny, wow.

Saying that, he has scored in every single CL-game this season - the first one to ever do that. He has something like 2 goals in 10 in the league, which is ridiculous for him, but we all know it won’t be like that after 38 games.

Incredible footballer, together with Messi he has created a new standard for holding a certain level over time. We will have equally interesting players, and have a few already, but they do not have the same consistency and output - and we will probably never see it again.

Absolute rubbish, Barcelona are in front in Spain and also through in the CL - what are rambling about mate? Also, he isn’t «by and far» the best in the world after these 15-20 games gone by. Hazard, Neymar, Salah, De Bruyne, DDG et al have also been at the same level. It’s a WC-year, it goes without saying that anyone shining in the WC will have a good shout if they win, as well as the CL.

I suspect it may be Neymar if PSG win the CL this year.

Strikers always get the plaudits which is a bit boring. I'd love for David de Gea to get it and I'll put money on Poggers in a year or two.

DDG? When was the last time a keeper won it?
For DDG to win the Ballon basically means he'll have to win the big trophies and be the best player on his team. And even if that happens, they'll likely give it to an attacking player.
Defenders rarely win the Ballon (if I recall correctly only Cannavaro won it in the last 15 years as a defender) let alone goalkeepers.

I believe we will see Messi vs Ronaldo one more time.
But if France win the wc with Mbappe shining i think he can get the balon d'or.

Aye, good chance of that being the case. If he doesn't win the CL, then he could get it through Brazil winning the WC. If he wins both he's a shoe-in so long as he makes a decent impact.

    Neymar / Mbappe media wankfest.

Would love DDG to have a legit chance but it's whoever is the best player on the World Cup winning team for next year.

If they win the CL and Brazil reach the latter stages of the WC, the Ballon is guaranteed to go to Neymar.

Really hope it's someone other than Messi or Ronaldo.

Scenes if De Gea won it afternoon United do the double and Spain win the World Cup!

This was Ronaldos last IMO. But Messi will win the next few as he's still few head and shoulders the best in the world. Maybe Neymar in a few years.

Ronaldo won't win it again, but Messi still has a few in him. He's still the best player in the world, by quite some distance.

Sucking up to Messi and Ronaldo? More like Messi is just the greatest of all time and Ronaldo definitely top 10, and they've been consistently head and shoulders above anyone else for the past decade. It's not sucking up. Those 2 have just been way ahead everyone constantly. Ronaldo is now close to his end IMO, and I don't think he'll win another one, but messi should be winning the next 2 or 3 as I don't think anyone will be close to his level for the next few years. Not all based on trophies.

Bit of everything I think, pitches, weather, general atmosphere in the WC, Russia is nothing like they are used to. On top of that they haven't been totally convincing and are drawn in the hardest group in my opinion. They are favorites in the group wthout question but I got a feeling they are the team that are going to dissapoint. Croatia on a good day can beat anyone, Nigeria is a physical side with alot of pace and stamina and Iceland aren't a punching bag.

Much depends on whether Barca will be able to compete for the CL. It is not a given.

The next Ballon D'or winner outside of Messi/Ronaldo will be one of Dybala, Neymar, Mbappe De Bruyne. Outside chance Griezmann, Pogba and Hazard, but i doubt it.

South America isn’t just beach and tropics, you know. A Russian summer is a piece of cake in comparison to the cold and rainy mountains of Bogotá, the Pacific ruggedness of Lima or the freezing winters of Buenos Aires. I think you need to get out a bit.

An away game in Moscow is easier than an away game in La Paz or Caracas, any day of the week.

He's not though, there was an event held today to find out who the best player in the world is and Messi didn't win, Messi also never won last year, that was also won by the same guy who won today.

If you're purely judging it on who's the best then yes he ought to win a few more but I think he'll be let down by Barca not being good enough to win the CL because unfortunately, an entire year seems to only boil down to how you do in those 4-5 CL and/or WC/Euro games.

Neymar has the biggest chance as, along with individual ability, he has a team good enough to win one of the big ones next year (CL or WC).
