That's a slippery slope man. Screw that enemy's enemy nonsense. Whether it's fair or not, you're judged by the company you keep. Cast your most wary eye on your compatriots. Besides, you're a political animal and what you do resides in the public eye. Trust me, the public will never think much of these Anonymous clowns. Even if our politics might agree, they're an embarrassment.

    Splitters!

Division is the biggest weakness that they will exploit.

Whether you agree with Anonymous or not if you waste your energies there then you are losing focus.

It is always more difficult for a righteous cause as they only see one path where as the corrupt will use any means to succeed.

Now according to the media part of the plans for todays protests include attempts to shut down mass transit systems. This in effect will force many others to be part of this "Day Without the 99%" whether they want to be part of it or not. Kind of like, if you can't convince them to join you, give them no choice but to join you.

DC ~ Two times to watch 6pm GMT Capitol Hill & Midnight GMT The NFIB Small Business Summit <~This one I organized w/ 6 other indie journalists (Rep. John Boehner will be the keynote speaker)

Serious note: The small business interests should really be looking across the room to the insurance companies asking them why they are killing their business w/ increasingly high rates. These members don't even know that the organizers of NFIB are the very enemy putting them out of business.

Today in Washington DC, protesters will Occupy Congress (or at least try to occupy the Capitol Building). I doubt they will get within 5,000 ft of the doors, but I could be wrong.

A half dozen of us indie journalists will be at the Hyatt in DC this evening while Rep. John Boehner will be speaking. We will be interviewing and educating the small business folks that have bought into memberships w/ the National Federation of Independent Business who undermine the interests of small business interests with big business talking points.

The NFIB are the primary group that has gone after the Affordable Care Act (ACA), while it is a crap bill, it is still better than the 5% annual increase (said to be 5% increase ea. year for at least 10 years) to healthcare rates proposed by insurance companies. This supposed small business interest group is actually run by Big Business powerhouses from the oil industry and insurance world, as well as other interests including the Bloomberg news and investment groups http://www.nfib.com/summit

The US media has been working overtime to paint the protest of NATO as some sort of terror based group. In print and tv mainstream media the tactic has been to weave in a 5 day old story of 3 protesters that had been detained by the FBI on charges that they allegedly planned to firebomb the Obama election headquarters in Chicago. There are reports coming out that they are trumped up charges.

For the most part the protests in Chicago had been peaceful in relation to past years. Most of the conflict came from police officers bashing protesters with batons on Sunday when the police decided to shove the protesters back from the Veterans for Peace stage.

    Occupy Frankfurt Germany 19.05.12

    http://www.globalwinnipeg.com/world...y protest german police/6442644693/story.html

BERLIN - At least 20,000 people held a major rally of the local Occupy movement in Frankfurt on Saturday to decry austerity measures affecting much of Europe, the dominance of banks, and what they call untamed capitalism.

The protesters peacefully filled the city centre of continental Europe's biggest financial hub on a warm and pleasant afternoon, said Frankfurt police spokesman Ruediger Regis. He said 20,000 people were there, while organizers put the number at 25,000.

The protest group, named Blockupy, has called for blocking access to the European Central Bank, which is located in Frankfurt's business district.

Organizer spokesman Roland Seuss the protest is "against the Europe-wide austerity dictate by the (creditor) troika of ECB, the EU Commission and the International Monetary Fund."

Last year, thousands in Germany took to the streets in rallies during the worldwide Occupy movement. But as Germany's economy is robust and unemployment at a record-low, those protests have mostly fizzled out.

But Europe's lingering debt crisis has given new fuel to some demonstrations.

Germany, Europe's biggest economy, suffers none of the austerity measures now heavily affecting southern European nations such as Greece, Portugal and Spain. But Germany has championed the sometimes harsh spending cuts across Europe to get deficits under control.

Chancellor Angela Merkel has pushed through a European treaty enshrining fiscal discipline, but she is being criticized for suffocating growth through her insistence on austerity measures.

Her conservative government has rejected significant new stimulus measures, but Merkel is increasingly pressured — not least by newly elected French President Francois Hollande and President Barack Obama — to prop up investment to foster growth and avoid another recession in Europe.

"We are in solidarity with the people of Greece and other European countries who are already gravely suffering from (budget) cuts across the board which threaten their very existence," Suess said.

"International resistance against the austerity imposed by troika and governments," read one banner, followed by protesters waving Greek and Spanish flags. "Break the bank's power," read another banner.

An Occupy tent camp in front of the European Central Bank was cleared Wednesday as a safety measure ahead of Saturday's protest. Some 340 activists left, some of them carried by police. Authorities say the camp can be re-erected late Sunday.

Police on Friday temporarily detained some 400 demonstrators during unauthorized Blockupy protests by thousands of activists after they erected barricades and staged sit-ins.

Some 5,000 police officers are assigned to keep the weekend protests in check.

The NLG/OWS Fundraiser in NYC at the Angel Orensanz Arts Foundation

    1 June, 2012

Friday afternoon, I arrived in NYC for the NLG/OWS fundraiser to one of those perfect days that you dream of being in the city. After a few days of heavy rain the place was nice and clean, temps were perfect for the entire weekend.

My plan had been to meet up with two members of the Syrian Americans for Democracy (one a member of the SNC). This being my second trip up to NYC in 3 months to come visit and talk with them that they cancelled at the last minute. ~ With the kidnapping of 11 farmers/pilgrims as they have been described passing through Aleppo, Lebanon ~ coupled with the Chairperson of the Syrian National Council (a Syrian Economics Professor who lives in Paris) stepping down, days before ~ I can hardly blame them for not wanting to discuss the dire situation that plagues the Syrian Free Army and the SNC...

Getting back to the real fun...

So, I arrive at Union Square Park 3 hours prior to the NLG/OWS fundraiser looking to kill time. Low-n'-behold I find Matt a street entertainer molesting a plastic reindeer, beating it like a plastic jug while dancing a yelling 'THIS IS THE RADIO SHOW' as well as other things that made no sense.

At first he was dressed up in a cow costume (utters and all), as I thought ~ 'I'm not too impressed, having lived near Venice Beach, California for a decade.' I'm not too surprised by street crazies very easily. The force was with this one. He did certainly entertain us all.

A few feet away were the Occupy Wall Street 'The People Staged' ~ not quite as exciting, but a good group of folks. The OWS performers and audience sang along to a popular Occupy tune called 'Ooooo Weeee Occupy'

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f7gD9ZDn_a4

Ok, now getting to the real story...

The National Lawyers Guild kicked off on time as it was held in a renovated gothic style church in the Lower Eastside of NYC. The attendees were mostly lawyers with only approximately 10 of us from the Occupy movement representing Occupy Wall Street, Occupy Portland, Occupy Bergen County, and Occupy DC.

The scene was something of Harry Potter's dining hall meets Jimi Hendrix as the first half the event was about eating and listening to some Hendrix cover musician play.

The award ceremony will take more time to explain...

I will be back to add the rest later... I need to get ready for work.

Activists with Occupy Our Homes DC blockaded the entrance to Dawn Butler’s home in Washington, DC today in an effort to prevent U.S. Marshals from evicting her. The “eviction defense” resulted in a dramatic and sometimes violent confrontation between activists and law enforcement in which the front door was ripped from its hinges and several people were injured.

Occupy Our Homes DC took up the case of Dawn Butler, a tenant in northeast DC whose landlord has been foreclosed on by Chase Bank. By blocking the path of marshals, Occupy Our Homes intended to delay them long enough for Butler’s lawyer to obtain a stay of eviction in court. This is the second time that Occupy Our Homes, part of Occupy DC, has “defended” Butler’s home. On April 2, Occupy Our Homes successfully intervened and prevented the Butler family from being evicted.

Although preparations were last-minute–the eviction order was only issued late the previous afternoon–Occupy Our Homes managed early Tuesday morning to hang a banner saying, “Eviction Free Zone” and erect a large barricade made of milk crates, to which three activists secured themselves with PVC piping.

Marshals didn’t seem to expect the blockade. They conferred for almost an hour and a half as more than 20 more officers, additional vehicles and a K-9 unit arrived. Movers hired by mortgage-holder JP Morgan Chase milled about on the sidewalk. When armed marshals forcefully moved in at 10:15am, they ordered protestors to step aside. After a locksmith removed the gate lock, officers struggled with Eli Greer, who had tied himself to the gate, then wrestled him onto the lawn along with several others.

A violent confrontation ensued as officers rushed the barricade, tugging at it until the door was ripped from its hinges. Protestor Ryan Lash was thrown down the steps, suffering scrapes and bruises to his side. Marc Smith was knocked unconscious and lay on the sidewalk for several minutes before being transported to the hospital by ambulance. One U.S. Marshal sustained a head wound when the flying front door hit him in the head.

“There was a lot of yelling,” organizer Sophie Vick said. “A lot of the protestors were roughed up.” No one was arrested; U.S. Marshals have no jurisdiction to make arrests. Chanting “Homes Not Banks!” and other slogans, protestors taunted officers throughout the eviction. An antsy marshal brandished a taser during the height of the confusion, and later another stood guard on the lawn with an M-4 rifle.

Hired workers removed Butler’s personal belongings in totes and plastics bags. Her mother, Anne, remained remarkably calm all morning, saying she believed they would ultimately prevail. Her composure was only disrupted momentarily when the sound of broken glass was heard from shifting piles of belongings lining the sidewalk. She lamented the breakage of antique sake glasses.

Occupy Our Homes DC has been working with several area residents to prevent wrongful foreclosures and evictions. Occupy DC legal counsels have represented Butler at the DC Superior Housing Court proceedings, which began in 2008 when she attempted to buy the home from her landlord, who had gone into foreclosure. Under the right of first refusal, District residents have the right to buy a property in which they already live.

More photos of the eviction here.

I've been busy lately, lots going on...

Yesterday, in NYC there had been the 10,000+ strong Stop and Frisk march to Bloomberg's townhouse ~ 7 arrests were made, mostly the NYPD snatched up (5) young women at the end of the demonstration. ~ Mexico had a very large Stop and Frisk march, as well. It was led by the children of the most recently arrested activists. One arrest was a young female Italian tourist that stumbled upon the protest and began taking photos.

Also, yesterday it was a painful loss for the left supporters on the STOPCARTEL livestream ~ I spoke with Giorgos the host of STOPCARTEL throughout the day in Athens. He said the activists seem to be laying low, at the moment.

    This week in Washington DC:

The NYC group Occupy the Hood comes into town ~ Action tonight at 6pm and a teach-in at the Peace House on Media War Propaganda.

Tuesday evening www.weactradio.com will be hosting an on-location show from Busboys and Poets Cafe. The on-air event is bill as #PushObama a progressive attempt to encourage President Obama to pay attention to progressive issues and quit moving more to the right-center. ...also Vlad the director of the Global Revolution livestream channel will be calling in from Spain to report on the elections in Europe and activism throughout the region.

    You're very welcome, De Selby

    I've been very busy, lately.

Over this past weekend there were more than 10,000 protesters that marched for Stop and Frisk in NYC. http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/23387846

7 people were arrested in NYC at the very end of the protest. The NYPD are making a habit of arresting the most vulnerable of protesters, lately, young women. 5 of those arrested were young ladies. 1 was a young Italian female tourist that decided to snap a few photos at the wrong time. She got swooped up in the small flurry of arrests as they reached Mayor Bloomberg's townhouse.

#OccupyCaravan1 is the twitter account of one of two buses that departed from Los Angeles for Philadelphia, last week. They will reach Washington DC on 28 June. From 30 June - 4 July they will be in Philly.

Today, one of the Occupy Caravans were with Occupy New Orleans on a march with Occupy Eye streamer ~ http://www.ustream.tv/user/OccupyEye

Lots still going on with the Occupy folks:

Yesterday, at Occupy London there had been an anti-missle demonstration ~ I believe it was at St. Pauls.

Occupy Japan has been demonstrating and marching against the start-up of the nuclear plants in Japan in Fukushima

This livestream/Ustream link has been streaming almost non-stop for the past week http://www.ustream.tv/user/IWJ_FUKUI out of Japan

The Philadelphia Occupy National Gathering began, yesterday. It is from 30 June - 4 July The Twitter hashtag is #NatGat All the information on the event can be found at this link ~>
    http://www.occupynationalgathering.com/#

Saturday, day 1 of #NatGat had seen 2 arrests for popping up a tent at Independence Mall. http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/23678710

The rest of the day and evening had been peaceful with the crowd reaching in numbers of approximately 500-600 folks. They are expecting the crowd to grow on Sunday.

Monday Matt Taibbi the journalist of Rolling Stone magazine will be speaking at the National Gathering at 1:30pm ET

Occupy Wall Street has gotten back to holding General Assemblies. OWS held a protest against Fox News/Propaganda http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/23672195 Yesterday

A behind the scenes look on two Occupy related projects that I am aware of:

    1. Global activism is about to see a significant shift. The Occupy movement has been about decentralized pockets of groups of protesters. This may change only in a way that efforts are looking to consolidate messaging and networking among activist throughout the world. ~ Point being: If the neo-liberalists believe that forming one world market without a measured response, the are about to discover a worldwide response. A tighter network of Globalized Activism is about to rise.

    2. Occupy Faith is moving forward with a massive day of action in NYC for the weekend of the one year anniversary of Occupy Wall Street. The proposal was supposed to go before the OWS/GA last night. Although, with the National Gathering in Philly, the GA may have been postponed.

Yep... Occupy Japan is broadcasting, now. They just began streaming again, showing nearly 3,000 viewers http://www.ustream.tv/channel/iwj-fukui1

Global Revolution seems to have found two other livestreams in Fukushima prior to the start-up of the plants, today. http://www.livestream.com/globalrevolution

I just noticed on twitter, someone saying that BBC World News is also showing the protests in Japan

Photostream at Flikr of the photos I brought back from the Philadelphia National Gathering of Occupy

    http://www.flickr.com/photos/81995324@N02/

There had been an estiamted 500-600 Occupy activists that traveled from every corner of the USA to Philadelphia to work out common solutions. I will bring the official report back from the Philly #NatGat working group, this week

The Guardian had run an article on the Philly National Gathering on 5 July. The headline was not very positive because the journalist expected more in attendence. People need to keep in mind that the 4th of July is a big family holiday. Getting big numbers from something like this wasn't a realistic expectation. In addition to the fact that few people wanted to stand outside for a few minutes in the heat-wave for a fireworks display, nevermind meetings out in the open for 5 days straight. Keeping all of this in mind, 500-600 is a rather impressive turnout.

The other thing about the Guardian article on the Philly National Gathering is that the journalist sought out the most notoriously insane participant of the Occupy Wall Street movement for quotes to summarize the national summit of Occupy activists. This person 'Sage' has had serious issues of being disruptive and deconstructive, on many levels.

The Occupy movement does not have the financing of a Tea Party. The Koch Brothers, Carl Rove, Dick Army types groups have organizers and fundraisers which can not be compared to these truely grassroots gatherings of the Occupy movement.

New York City's Occupy Wall Street 1 year anniversary should be a big one, though.

Tonight, I will feature Trisha originally from Occupy Sacramento on The Occupy People Youtube channel http://www.youtube.com/user/TheOccupyPeople?feature=mhee

Trisha joined up with the Occupy Caravan in San Francisco for the trek across the country to meet up at the Philly National Gathering of Occupy. I caught up with her at the Citi Bank Sleepful Protest in Philadelpia. Currently, Trisha is on the 99 Mile March ( on twitter @99MileMarch ) from Philly - Wall Street.

They screwed up Younge's mic in the interview so you can't hear the questions, but Chomsky comes through load and clear.

Something Chomsky does in Occupy (the book) is something he should do more often, I think- he gives some practical advice to the readers. In this instance, it's for people who want to stage a protest. For example: once people don't block building entrances and whole sidewalks they have the right to set up a moving picket line, hand out fliers, rally on pathways etc. And that protesters need a permit to march on the street. They're small things, but they're useful.

Of course, those who've protested before or know their First Amendment rights will be aware of this, but not everyone is.

I have no idea either, yet.
If Chomsky gives too much advice he won't be visiting lecture halls around the world quite so much.

That's not what Chomsky is best suited to doing. There are books on that sort of thing already.

I was thinking more in terms of practical advice for young researchers.

Chomsky probably reads (no doubt he's slowing down now, though), has read and has access to more information than any single academic on the planet.

A lot of younger researchers and students may not know how to go about finding a lot of that info.
