Worth an extra £26m a year to be known as the Bulnak Noodle Bowl Manchester?

I expect younger folk won't have such a problem if OT gets renamed and will be quite pragmatic about it? As for myself any renaming of our ground will be the final nail in the coffin of my increasingly tenuous support. It's already at the merely a habit stage and the selling off of the name Old Trafford and all it stands for will be the end.

    Thoughts?

This is the one time the extra revenue isn't worth it. Sleeve sponsors, training kit sponsors, official watch sponsors, bucket and spade sponsors I dont have an issue with any of that, make our kits as horrible as you like but you don't mess with the name of the stadium

Of cours it’s not worth it and if you read the article well club is firmly of the same opinion. Not worth the discussion, click-bite article.

Whatever the club says today easily changes by tomorrow. Particularly when there's money involved and we've some ground to make up on a state bankrolled team winning the league by 20 points. If there's anything about the history of this club and it's relationship with the fans will tell you it's that fan opinion on this matter will mean nothing.

So it's not like club is trying to do any deal there.

If we had a new stadium then it makes sense, not now.

All based on what they call "potential, theoretic valuations that might not be achievable on the market".

2018 journalism must be a doddle.

Nah, the Old Trafford branding is worth more than what sponsors can pay for naming rights.

The question is which fans would mind and which wouldn't. I expect opinions will vary.

I think the naming rights to the stadium is one of the more attractive areas of sponsorship, Sky Sports saying live from the Emirates / Etihad every week has to be a bigger draw than sponsoring our training gear. So the very fact that its still called Old Trafford after all the other avenues of sponsorship have been sussed out I think we're safe in the short term anyway.

Pointless clickbait not even worthy of a thread given how many times United have categorically stated that they have no plans of ever selling the naming rights and how often it's been litigated in the past both on here and elsewhere.

Don't see this happening any time soon, and I would be strongly against it. People will probably get worried looking at the article heading, but it does state that we've no intention of doing it. Just that some group have estimated how much we could earn.

This has been argued on here a number of times, but i don't think we'd go for it.

Thankfully we are big enough of a club that we wouldn't need to go after that money in order to be competitive financially.

I wouldn't trust the club to stick to what it said yesterday about anything when it comes to money.

I doubt they'll vary by much. I would imagine the majority won't want the name changed and will know we don't even need that extra income. Leave that to the smaller clubs. ;)

99.9% sure I remember Ed categorically ruling this out. He said something along the lines of "no amount of money is worth cheapening the brand image like that".

Hope it never happens. Wouldn’t like it at all, and I might as well start following the American franchises.

    Tbf everything else has.

And when some global entity rocks up with £75m per year I can see Ed, or whoever follows him, getting a call from a Glazer saying get it sold.

Call it whatever they want, and milk whatever revenue source steps forward to sponsor us, it will make no appreciable difference as the stadium will always be known as Old Trafford. In order for sponsors to take advantage of naming rights you would be better advised to look at more modern, newly-opened venues, as they don't have the status ( iconic in respect of OT ) that older grounds enjoy.

    26m a year? Nope

60m and I might like the idea.

Can't see it happening until/if we ever move to a new stadium. Too emotive a subject while still at OT.

Everyone has a price. What would yours be?
I'd hace it for 500 million a year.

if they were going to do it then it would have happened long ago

naming rights on exisiting stadia are not worth the same as new stadia as people always use the old name, so Im sure the club realise it is not worth the negative fallout

£75m a year and I'd have no problem with it. £20m won't even buy you a squad player.

Don't we get like £40m a year from AON just for Carrigton and our training kits? Surely remaining the most famous and biggest stadium in England is worth more than that.

If we sell the stadium name, I'm out. It's been an amazing 40 years of supporting & I'm a season ticket holder, but that will be that last straw. Unless of course that + the Sky cash subsidises cheaper tickets? This would probably go some way to changing the demographic of match-goers which may help with atmosphere?

£150m per annum, tied in for five years, who wants in?

No takers? Well it stays as Old Trafford.

I'm from Malaysia and this is such a shame if United done this. Hopefully the Glazers are clever enough to appreciate the legacy.

    unless it's 100 million quid a year...

26 million a year isn't nearly worth it. I'd sell the naming rights for 100 million a year. Everyone's going to keep calling the stadium Old Trafford either way.

I would be okay with it if we got a decent wedge for it. Maybe £75 million a year. At least what we get from our shirt sponsors.

Should be renamed to Disneyland. Woodward can say ManUtd is Adult version of Disneyland without any doubt then.
