Would love too see him develop into a United captain.
I think Ander is up there too in terms of candidates.
There is no doubt. He has clearly been signed to replace Rooney as the new poster boy of the club. If he stays at the club long enough, I think he will certainly be the captain.
He seems to have the self confidence and character, if he wants to become captain.
I expect him to succeed Rooney as captain, and it could be as soon as the start of next season.
I see Pogba and Ibrahimovic mentally dragging United week in week out, so it won't be long before he will be Pogcaptain
Should be cocaptain with Herrera and DDG first.
Wow very interesting. Wonder when he might get it. I guess after Rooney is sold and Carrick retired. He could be Captain for a long time to come. He does have the charisma and will to win, and is definitely very vocal on the pitch. I guess he will get it ahead of Herrera as Herrera may not be at the club as long as Pogba due to age. Awesome if Jose has managed to sign the new Captain in his first transfer window, and is a CM, the world's most expensive player at that.
De Gea first
Do keepers make good captains? For an attacking team usually the keeper is quite isolated. Never thought keepers or strikers for that matter, made ideal captains.
Jose must be reading the Caf. I called this on Thursday or early Friday.
Casillas and Buffon have been captains.
Right now Pogba seems a bit too playful to be a captain. Maybe I'm just hungover seeing serious captains like vidic Terry Gerrard and all
Pogba or Herrera.
Fair enough but our current captain gets pissed, knocked out and feeds press stories. He's very playful in other ways.
Pogba does not seem dour enough to be a good captain.
One day? Let that day be today. Herrera and Pogba now!!!!
I think the laughing and Joking belies a steely core. He is certainly much more of a leader on the pitch than even a few weeks ago. He seems to be growing into that role. Perhaps, Jose has had a chat with him to show more leadership?
Certainly has the charisma and winning mentality.
He's on BBC football focus today at 12.
Pogba on Mourinho
"He talked to me. He made me very comfortable and confident," said Pogba, who made seven appearances for United before joining Juve for £1.5m in 2012.
"He said 'you know how to play, do what you want'. He let me free on the pitch.
"He told me just to enjoy myself. That is it. That is all I need to hear from the manager."
Definitely. First thought it when he was trying to jeer the fans up during a game a few weeks. Can't remember the game, but don't even think the scoreline was bad at the time.
You just know he's going to do something special on Sunday
I just have this feeling that he's going to have a stormer against Liverpool - I expect some crazy assist/goal. No other player, not even Zlatan, inspires that confidence in me now.
Not against the best midfielder in the league he won't.
I was going to put he was going to have a "stormer" but changed it last second.
This is fate my friend!!
Didn't think of that
It makes a lot of sense to make him captain when Rooney and Carrick leave/retire. I mean our other options are:
Ibrahimovic - he would be a perfect captain, but most likely he will leave within 18 months. In addition, he is the captain of the team, be it with armband or not.
Herrera - he has a lot of captain attributes, but you want the captain to be a world class player, one of the best in the world in his position. Referees - and even opposition players - respect top top players. Herrera isn't a top player, and won't ever be.
De Gea - while there are good keeper captains, De Gea isn't that vocal. In addition, if the talking with ref rules get strengthened (only captain being able to talk) then we don't want a keeper captain.
For most part that's it. It should be between Pogba, Herrera and De Gea, and I think that Pogba has all the attributes to be our captain. He's one of the best in the world in his position and the fourth best midfielder in the league (after Alli, Henderson and Lallana), he is quite vocal and charismatic, he speaks 4-5 languages so he's able to efficiently communicate with referees all over Europe. He'll be our new captain.
There's not really many candidates. Rooney doesn't have long left at United, Carrick one year at most, Ibrahimovic will most likely leave in 2018, Smalling I doubt will be a regular starter. So that leaves Pogba, De Gea and possibly Herrera.
I know, the point I was making wasn't "goalkeepers have never been captains"
I approve this thread.
Both are very vocal.
Buffon is an absolute leader.
DDG has never shown any leadership qualities, though he remain IMO, the best GK in the World.
Long term - Herrera and Pogba are the only ones with the leadership qualities for the role, in our current roster.
Basically, if you watch Ibra's behaviour on the pitch - that's the sort of player we need as the captain. A leader. A talisman.
Pogba and Zlatan are the obvious captains at the moment. I bet they are by far the biggest personalities around the club. Herrera also seems like a contender to be future captain. Ideally Rooney will leave in the summer and we'll have a new captain going in to next season.
Pogcaptain and ander/david as vicecaptain.
Yup without a doubt it should be him.
However, if one of our centre backs (Smalling, Jones, Bailey) really step up and becomes a worlds best, scoring last minute winners too, it could be one of them. Depends when the vacancy is.
What's funny about this?
Let's turn any good thread into an opportunity to attack Rooney
the funny accurate bit
Just out of interest, what about it did you object to considering it's an accurate counter to the post I replied to originally?
At some point he will become the captain, no doubt!
I wonder what the Rooney haters will say. You know... Rooney threatened to leave, but Pogba actually left! And he cost us $90 million which is more than Rooney's wages all these years!...
Separate names with a comma.
