Ince was far worse than any of them for obvious reasons. The way he celebrated that last minute equaliser at Anfield near the end of the 98/99 season was just out of order.

To be fair he stayed in Portugal for 2 years and by the time his contract there was up he was 37-38 so i doubt SAF was too upset.

I would think if this is the case it would be doing Fergie a favour.

Great keeper, but always a bit of a prick. Same with his son.

I remember Peter going on about his kids going to school in Portugal would be much better than England as well, then he's back here in no time. I expected him to never come back to England the way he went on. Also slagged off the fans before going.

I doubt he was being serious especially during a team talk before a charity game.

Ferguson threatened to throw a cup of tea in Schmeichel's face and then sacked him at halftime. If he kept talking to him after that, I doubt he's going to take offense to not being called World Class.

Makes it even more funny that Ince has been refering to United as "we" in the last year. Is he on the payroll or something?

Probably a fair comment at the time before going. He wanted the fans to be more vocal and there to be a more partizan atmosphere. His passion wasn't met by the fans.

I saw that video and it was a joke. Everyone including Fergie were laughing. I mean it was obvious, really hard to miss that it was a joke.
It was a joke. I saw the video. I'm actually surprised anyone would understand that bit as anything but a joke which was actually very funny because it had everyone laughing including Fergie himself.

Well to be honest it must be a pretty hard club to break into, if you want to get into Sir Alex’s world class group. I’m not really surprised his four comprised of two homegrown guys who he watched grow up and become loyal servants to him, the Frenchman who was the difference in making Utd a league winning team and the start of Utd being a force in Europe again and the Portuguese guy who’ll end up being one of the greatest of all time and probably the best player Sir Alex ever worked with. Obviously he’s got a lean towards favouritism there too so it’s not strictly a definitive world class grouping.

Pretty sure Schmeichel sent out a tweet saying he was heartbroken when he heard the news of Sir Alex’s brain haemorrhage so they can’t be on bad terms exactly. Schmikes was not an outfield player I guess and VDS and DDG came along too.

Ridiculous for anyone, Fergie included, to suggest Schmiechel was not world class. Of course he was.

If you listen to a Sir Alex interview where he talks about his former players you'd know that he considers all his great players world class. Probably said that to cause a stir.

Keane was definitely world class, and if they didnt have their falling out he'd have been top of Ferguson's list. He used to love him and defend him for every stupid thing he did. Fergie's said on many occassions Norman Whiteside was world class and could have been whatever he wanted had it not been for his injury. You dont win 13 titles and 2 champions league by only having 4 world class players over 26 years.

Ferguson's first autobiography was similar in the sense that he liked to stick big talking points in there to cause a bit of discussion. I cant believe he'd honestly think he only had 4 real world class players during his time at United.

Schmeichel always talks about how “City weren’t a threat to United when he joined them”... I find that a bit insulting to be honest.

He celebrated when they drew with us. It should have never occurred to him to play for City. That goes for Cole, Hargreaves and Kanchelskis aswell.

Having an opportunity to get your son a professional contract with a Premier League team and a move back to Manchester, I dont see why he'd ever turn it down. That City side was less than a threat to us. It was a cash cow for knackered old players who didnt care anymore.

Hargreaves, Cole and Kanchelskis were in a similar boat. That was a good club for Cole to join (good money, back in Manchester.) Hargreaves was lucky anyone came in for him, so I certainly dont hold that against him. Same with Kanchelskis. He was finished and looking for his final payday.

What about Barthez? Had some howlers for us, but surely World class in his day? CL, Euro, WC winner.

Obviously a nothing story but just on the topic of great United goalkeepers, I always feel people underrate how good Edwin was for us. Helped settle the backline and apart from the odd mistake here and there was consistently one of the best in Europe during his tenure at United. Great distribution and ability to start counters as well.

Barthez was such a bitter disappointment for us, I was so excited when we signed him. Utter disaster.

Barthez was pretty decent for us in his first season when we won the league fairly easily, it started to unravel soon after though and some of his decision making was so incredulous that it left me wondering if he was deliberately trying to get us to drop him or worse. Remember his goal kick to Henry at Highbury?! He was that bad in the end that Howard and Carroll were seen as credible alternatives.

I personally don’t think Van der Saar is underrated - I think most fans would acknowledge that he was an outstanding player for us. He, along with Schmeichal and DDG were/ are all World Class goalkeepers. VDS, Rio and Vidic is the best defensive axis we have ever had. I have no idea how he ended up at Fulham, £2m for 4 years service is one of the bargains of this century.

I believe this is just more of Sir Alex Ferguson's famed psychology. First of all, this puts his assessment of "world class" at an incredibly high level, judging by the players who don't make the list. Secondly...

Ronaldo is among the best to play the game, so it's no surprise he's listed. In fact you invalidate the list by leaving him out.

Cantona was the spark that reignited the club, but his quality probably won't be remembered outside the UK because of his issues in France, and the 3-Foreigner rule.

Giggs & Scholes were incredible team players, both would have had much more impressive individual stats (but possibly won fewer trophies) if they'd played more for themselves.

Had he given a list of 15 world class players nobody would have taken any notice. The flip side is that it might be insulting someone like say, Robson if he didn't make that list. By including just 4, you massively boost the legacy of 3 players, whilst creating a talking point, having everyone recall the brilliance of our former players... and then everyone's a winner.

Fergie probably doesn't want to talk to him anyway after he signed for those blue cnuts
