He'll be better than JT ever was i'd say. Great signing by Fergie this, our central defence looks likes its sorted for the next 10 years at least.

Who needs Vidic and Rio?

It's fair to say SAF has sorted our GK and defence for years to come. I'm sure he'll have something up his sleeve for our midfield before he retires.

    just a great picture that.

Our future CB positions are secure for a long time...and for England too.

Smalling should be bedded into the national team now, if England were progressive like Germany Terry wouldn't have been made captain.

England and progressive don't go together, that's the problem when you hire a man with one job... get results NOW!

And they'll have the Super da Silva Bros on either side of them. Exciting times ahead. Well, as exciting as defensive matters get.

Finally! Smalling, Evans and Jones for the future. I truly enjoy the sound of that.

The England captaincy is way over played. Most other countries coudn't care less but somehow its a topic of conversation for the whole country.

Just pass it around and be done with it.

Daily Mail headline on Sunday: "Jones Deal in Tatters"

Wonder if tomorrow they'll run with "Daily Mail Talks Bollox" :smirk:

Great to seal this signing. Jones and Smalling have a couple of years to learn from Rio and Vida too.

    Fabulous news all round :D

It seems to me that our defense is pretty much perfectly sorted for years to come and we have one of the most exciting young strike forces in the world.

All we need now is Fergie to sort the midfield now and we'll all be happy!!

I saw someone say this yesterday. How can we predict that he will get anywhere near Terry's level?

My answer would be I will be over the moon if he is as good as Terry.

Have to say I take the claim Liverpool have offered 22m AFTER Jones has already made his choice with a pinch of salt. The idea of 'revenge' for a throwaway remark by Fergie might have been right if fans were running the club, but I really don't see Dalglish and co really working that way. Maybe Blackburned leaked an offer that never was in order to try and put pressure on us.

    Positives:

    Young
    English
    Leadership qualities
    Versatile
Huge Potential (future England captain talk)

For 16.5 he's basically an English Nani/Anderson singing.

just a little concerned about back up for the fullbacks.

The twins have got injured a bit. Evra is getting on. Others have mentioned Evans and Smalling doing teh back up jobs..

    Da Laet??

perhaps I am worrying too much.

I am thrilled by the news like all here.

    Now for the midfield.

Nah. The fullback position is a concern if Sheesy leaves.

Dunno but if we are going to spend big I think SAF will move some players on. Will be one of the more interesting summers.

I take it we won't be going after Varane now?

I don't see O'Shea deciding to take a massive pay cut to join Sunderland unless SAF tries to push him out.

think we will not be asking a lot for him...as a compromise to his pay I mean.

it will be a way to help him as well as us looking to the future.

He probably wants to go to a club closer to teh top 4...Everton, Spurs..?

the only concern with O'Shea if we end up retaining him is his recent injuries that have been relatively long.

There's no concern at all if we keep O'Shea. He'll be another option for the full-back positions; it's unlikely that him, Jones, Smalling, Evans, Rafael, Fabio and Evra will be injured at the same time.

If we sell him, good luck to him but I'd keep him as cover if we don't need that 3-4m that desperately.

Seriously. Stop it, Solius. It's not even funny anymore, just sad.
