Please show post #71 to your English teacher.

Hmmmm, so they basically are saying they won't do anything until the conclusion of the official police investigation.

Classic interview between NI's Simon Greenberg and Sean Cassidy (who's son died in the 7/7 attacks) up on the bbc here. The comedy starts around the 4 minute mark.

BBC News - Victim asks News International why they hacked his phone

Greenberg - "If we could get Seans details, we'd like to try and contact any potential victims after the investigation."

Cassidy "Well you've already got them...."

I'm just waiting for what is still to come, it's the only reason they wouldn't have gone to town on anyone yet.

Brilliant example of the blind arrogance of some reporters. See's his position as some sort of moral crusader as entitling him to do what he wants.

Yep, it was genuinely cringewrothy watching him dig an even bigger hole for NI last night.

His entire attitude suggests that phone hacking was/is an endemic practice.

The number of times the media have harassed the family and children of other people in the news and as a media man he has the gall to ask for different treatment for himself.

Wonder how he'd feel if he found out later that the media were busy hacking the phones of him and his family in the middle of all this?

    Beggars belief, it really does.

I have to say I'm enjoying this - listening to these arrogant twats trying to defend the indefensible and failing miserably.

Every utterance makes them look more ridiculous and guilty - this is going to run and run.

Phone-hacking and other unlawful means of obtaing stories have obviously been endemic within NOTW for years. How many other papers and other parts of the media have been carrying out these practices?

Most of them is my guess.

You can't keep this kind of story down even if you are Rupert Murdock.

Coulson has said in court that he never sanctioned payments to the police.
The police now have emails which show he did. Perjury is a serious offense and Coulson is in danger of following Archer and Aitkin(?) into prison for his stupidity. Will he hold out and take one for the Cameron team or will his mummy's boy rather flexible stiff upper fail him and give up all he knows. I bet Cameron is shitting it right now.

On Newsnight tonight it was said that Brooks was one of the Murdock family and Milliband was going to be shown what that meant. Nice.

So we are told that those who were running the paper at the time had no knowledge of what was going on and that they are 'shocked' and 'appalled' by the allegations. We have even been told by Brooks that it is 'inconceivable' that the paper's editor could have had knowledge of what was taking place. What a load of horseshit!

There is no fecking way that a newspaper's editor would have zero knowledge of the practices of her staff which appear to have been central to the paper's strategy. It would seem money was changing hands all over the place for all sorts of reasons. They're up to their necks in shit - hacking, bribery, cover ups, obstruction of justice - you name it. This is not the case of a few isolated instances, like it might have appeared when the hacking investigation first got going, this is systematic. The whole culture of the paper under Brooks is increasingly appearing to be criminal. Even if Brooks and the directors of News International genuinely did have no idea as to the details of the practises that were taking place, that doesn't excuse them of their legal responsibility to ensure their company is not acting criminally. If the police bribery accusations have something to them, there will be no hiding.

I think this has now gone too far for those at the top to be able to shift the blame onto those at the bottom. People just won't have it. Somebody high up - whether it's Brooks, Coulson or even one of the other directors of News International - knows that he or she is in the shit and that it's only a matter of time.

It's beginning to look like standard practice when a story broke was "Get some statements, buy some photos... oh, and has someone hacked the victim's phone yet?"

I see this ending with Rupert Murdoch on trial and breaking in similar style to Jack Nicholson in A Few Good Men as he lectures the prosecution about the relationship between the media and the public.

Prosecutor: Mr Murdoch, did you order the phone hacks?
Judge: You don't have to answer that question!
    Murdoch: I'll answer the question!
    [to Prosecutor]
    Murdoch: You want answers?
    Prosecutor: I think I'm entitled.
    Murdoch: You want answers?
    Prosecutor: I want the truth!
Murdoch: You can't handle the truth!
    [pauses]
Murdoch: Son, we live in a world that needs gossip, and this gossip sells papers. I oversee a national newspaper that has a readership of nearly 8 million people. I have a greater responsibility than you could possibly fathom. You weep for the invasion of privacy and yet you lap up the grubby details and line the pockets of those who's methods you claim to despise. The figures don't lie. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know. That Max Moselys nazi orgy, whilst irrelevant to the general public, sold more newspapers than any other paper that year. And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, brightens up peoples day. You don't want the truth because when you're down at the pub discussing Ryan Giggs latest marital indiscretions, it's people like me who fuel the conversation. We use words like hack, bribe, entrapment. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent reporting. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of gossip that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said thank you, and went on your way, Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a pen and write your own shit. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to.
Prosecutor: Did you order the phone hacks?
Murdoch: I did the job I...
Prosecutor: Did you order the phone hacks?
Murdoch: You're Goddamn right I did!

Christ. James Murdoch has just announced that this Sunday's edition of the NoTW will be the last ever edition. The world's biggest selling English language Sunday Newspaper has been brought down by this scandal.
